what young talent are you talking about because from what I've seen there is very little talent in next yrs junior and senior classes. They may be the least talented classes I've seen at the burg in 30 yrs and for sure the least talented back to back classes. The sophmore class does seem to have some talent but if the burg relies on them next yr it will be a long yr.The D wrote:your right...anything is possible ...but you gotta think about all of the young talent Burg will have...sure it will be a MUCH smaller senior class, but last year's freshman have tons of potential...and if Woodward can do anything with crew like he did last year, the upcomming Burg team will still be able to fight with all of the other teams who are also losing a good deal of their talent...Burg isnt the only team to lose key players this season...all around the class of 2011 is extremely atheletic from all local schools...so everybody west, valley, minford, and burg are losing key go-to players...should be a much closer season than the past few and I dont really see any team going undefeated in conference play...but with the few returning guys that Burg has...Shears, Hood, and others in key positions for the pirates the coaching staff and the new talent, Burg has just as good of a shot as anybody else in the conference.
But as I said before...looking forward to the season and pulling for our pirates to come out on top again...and hopefully again have the title as the second annual Halloween Bowl champs :122245
The difference is the 08 team had seniors like white, J Shank, hopper, and they also had one of the more talented classes the burgs seen in the junior class. The burgs coaches will make due but there is just very little talent in next yrs junior and senior classes. 5-5 would be a great job by the coaches and players. The D wrote:the upcomming sophomore class is exactly what i am talking about...there is a good deal of potential..it will take a lot of weightlifting and coaching, but with the losses the entire conference will be taking in the next year, it could be just what burg needs. its the same thing as two years ago when Burg had to use sophomores like Schank, Parsley, Stegman, and linemen...the same team who came in second in the conference losing only to west who was LOADED with seniors that year...the sophomores will have to step up to the plate and take on the challenge much like the years before them...
Your kidding right????fbnut wrote:They were one player from being 5-5 in 2010. It's more about the jimmy's and joe's than the x's and o's guys.

if that were the case, Portsmouth would win state every year. but they dont...and why? because its not all about the talent...its about the TEAM!!! you take any group of guys full of talent i.e. 2009 Burg with more talent than any other team around and they still lose sometimes...or take a well rounded TEAM of young men that mesh and work together and share a brotherly family, a common goal, and a heck of a lot of preparation...if you are talking about a TEAM of "jimmy's and joe's" working together doing whatever it takes to win then yes, you are completely correct...THAT is what will take you farther...THAT is what pushes you past what people are saying about you...THAT is what WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!

Since joining the SOC II, Valley has 11 league wins, 5 of those coming from Northwest, 3 more from Waverly in the post Trevor Walls years. Until they beat Wheelersburg or Minford I can't pick them as a favorite to win a gold football.
