Congratulations and well deserved. He will join Stefan Price, 2010 Minford graduate, on the Oiler's roster. Nice to see southern Ohio football getting a look from colleges and universities outside the area. UF had a down year this past season but I look for them to bounce back strong this Fall.

I drives me nuts the way this works sometimes.
You get kids who can play and the college recruiters love them until they get hurt, then the kids are just another piece of meat to be thrown off.
The same thing happened to the Wasonga kid from Parkersburg. I guess it just highlights that the system exists not to help anybody, but to feed the machine.
I imagine Slone will do very well at Findlay, and will likely have a better experience by going there than if he had walked on at a D-I school.

See, this is simply coming from someone who is admittedly angry. It's not the fact that they are just another "piece of meat" but simple supply & demand. These coaches and athletic directors are in a business of winning. If you don't, then their livelihood is taken away from them. They have a limited amount of scholarships to give and when a legitimate injury comes in they can pursue other endeavors if it scares them. And there is a legitimate reason to be scared of someone getting injured at the high school level prior to moving up.KarlAgathon wrote:I drives me nuts the way this works sometimes.

You can cry foul all you want, but they have done nothing wrong. It's the nature of the beast. If you were an athletic director or coach you would have to make the same tough decisions that they do. It's why they actively recruit way more student-athletes than they have scholarships for. Some will be left out. The bottom line is this: if the kids are talented enough they'll still land at another university earning a degree. If they are talented enough someone at another school will recognize them and potentially someone at the next level will recognize the talents. But don't get angry at these programs for protecting themselves from legitimate concerns. Anyone would make those same decisions if they were in their shoes.
