RedRocket O-Line Clinic

Post by DlLLlGAF »

Wonder when this time tested coach and his strategies will be made available to the general coaching public again. Lots of new coaches need to hear his theories on boobyblocking from back in the days when southern had a respectable program. Any possibilities?

Are you talking about Racine Southern? If so where do you get your information? We are good in basketball, and really good in baseball. But respectable in football? Not sure when that was. I would be interested in hearing about it though.

Oh I remember the booby blocking days. But I thought those days were long forgotten. Glad to see the old Jr high coach getting back at it. Will we see more undefeated jr high teams as a result of this?

Shoulder blocking is still appropriate according to the type of offense being used. It is the staple for Wing -T down blocking offenses to teach the use of the blocking surface using the side of the helmet forearm and chest. Then the athlete forms a vice to maintain contact on the block. Maybe that is what he was teaching. By the way Southern has had some successful teams in the past. During the 80s at one point they ran a a very successful single wing offense, using the spinner series. No joke it must have been difficult to stop with the foot to foot splits stopping penetration and the deception of the fullback getting the snap and turning his back and hiding the ball then handing it off or keeping it. Probably impossible to get a scout team to run right and get good practice against it.. In the early to mid 70s they had several successful teams if I remember right and had a good tailback out of the I.

Those teams you are talking about were before I was born. Its nice to know Southern was winning a lot football championships back then. But we havent won any I can remember so that is what I was goin on. Maybe my granpa remembers those days when they were winning the TVC. I will ask him this weekend.

I think Southern was in the same league as Kyger Creek, North Gallia, Hanan Trace and Southwestern at that time, not the TVC. I didnt say they won the league but they did have winning records.
