Wolford is allowed to play that is why he transferred to Wellston. His little brothers still play for Jackson. He will return to Jackson if he can get his grades up to play. Wellston has a lower gpa requirement for sports.

Just heard on the Radio that this is Time-Warner Cable High School Game of the Week. It is going to be broadcast in 800 Ohio communities on Channel 99. They will feature the rivalry, the late Bob Willis and ESPN Rise up and make a $500 donation to JHS. Time-Warner will passing out clappers and towels. This is good for both Wellston and Jackson and our area. It takes the rivalry to a new level. Rockets and Ironmen, it is going to be a great game.

Wolford is playing at Wellston because that is where his dad lives. He is a Rocket with no plans to return to Jackson. Best of luck to both teams.

I am going to bow out of that discussion and return the focus where it should be, 2 teams(TEAMS), who have worked very hard for the last nine months in preparing for this game. 2 Coaches with the hopes of 2 communities on their shoulders. We are down to about 36 hours till kickoff. Lets hope for a great injury free game for both teams. See ya in the endzone!

I am more than ready to watch this game tomorrow night. Wellston winning last year really did bring the rivalry back. I believe Jackson has reloaded and is a better overall team than last year. If they don't come out ready to play and make mistakes they can easily lose this game again though. I don't see that happening and expect Jackson to play with revenge and come out on top. If I were a betting man I'd say there will be a ton of hard hits, a little trash talking, and a good ol' high school football rivalry game. The attendance should be one of the biggest crowds alumni stadium has seen in years. Glad to fill those seats back up because that's how every game should be here in Jackson.

I want to give this team a lot of credit after watching both scrimmages. You can tell they have worked hard this off season and are a fun team to watch with many talented young players. I know people get tired of hearing about Austin Osborne, Drew Ervin, Morgan Landrum, and Ty McNelly but these boys can flat out play football! Let's not forget about some other key players though, O.J. Barr is pound for pound one the best players around, Jeffers is a good leader and plays tough every down, Alec Osborne started last year as a soph and played exceptionally well, very smart player and will play a big part of this years team, and one thing about these players is they might not make the TD's or big plays but they seem to never make mistakes. I'm also looking forward to watching young players like frosh Reagen Williams (this boy is HUGE and a great football player) and Nathan Parks who is one of the most underrated athletes on that team.

About all this transfer talk, I'm not saying anything bad about Wolford (great kid), but I will take one year with Austin than 2 years with him. Landrum would have the start anyways so nothing lost here in Jackson. Wish him the best of luck though. People need to get over it about who tranfers where. It happens at all schools and it always will. Play with what you got and deal with it.

I hope for an injury free game, a lot of hard hitting, big plays, big crowd and a big win for the Ironmen!

Finally, after 364 of the longest days in Jackson Ironmen history, redemption day is here. This been a year full of excitement, anxiety, and new names to put to a number on game night.

As usual, the hype for week one is high. However, this year may be an all-time high on the hype meter, without the streak. Wellston comes into the game riding on the excitement that came a year ago after the uproaring 33-13 victory last season that rejuvenated the entire Wellston community. The Ironmen, however are coming off of a 9-1 regular season, state playoffs and the first SEOAL title in a decade. Theoretically, the Ironmen should be over-hyped and arrogant, but this is a team who realizes the act that they have to follow and believe that they have something to prove also. Adding to all of he hype, other than a renewed rivalry is the ESPN, the transfer of now Jackson Quarterback Austin Osborne, former transfers Drew Ervin and Ty Mcnelly, Jaylin Prater at QB for the rockets, the Four Quarter Brawl Trophy, as well as a continuing list of motivation factors that add to this hype.
The one thing good thing about the streak ending is that we didn't have to hear about it being "Wellston's year" (just poking a little fun). Is it good for the rivalry that Wellston not only beat my beloved Ironmen, but beat them significantly and embarrassed them? Well of course it is. This is biggest event south of Columbus every last weekend in August, why not add to it? Those some 7,500 fans that would have been here had Jackson won last season multiplied and will surely be 10,000. Mark my words, this will be an atmosphere unlike any that we've ever seen at not only Alumni Stadium, but ANY high school venue in Ohio.

The Ironmen enjoyed their high point and got back to work quickly and have been preparing for this game since Winter. I hope players from both teams realize the magnitude of this game and understand how blessed they are to be a part of it. Each player who takes the field will always remember this night.

Now it's prediction time. The Ironmen have an opportunity to do something that last year's great team never did: beat the team from up north. And I think my Ironmen will do just that. Nothing against a Rocket team that i've seen play, but the Ironmen will ride the homefield horse all game long. The Ironmen offense has too many weapons and their fast defense is relentless and Larry Hall won't allow anything less than a shutout. Wellston will score to keep in interesting, but the Ironmen win this one 34-6.

I wish all players an injury free game. I hope to see some great football tomorrow night.
Go Ironmen!
