SVC Expansion

Post by Jerry Newman »

How about creating a huge league taking in all of Highland County.
How about this:
BIGS
Unioto
Jackson
McClain
Vinton County
Hillsboro
Waverly

MEDIUMS
Westfall
Zane Trace
Piketon
Wellston
Adena
Huntington

Smalls
Southeastern
Paint Valley
Leesburg Fairfield
Whiteoak
Eastern
Western

Combine the mediums and smalls during football season.

So the only team not playing against the original svc members would be Unioto! lol

I think this may be a bit too much. They could just add Waverly, Eastern and Western and another big (McClain, Vinton County or Logan Elm)
Go one 10 team division during football. Then split for all other sports.

Big (6 teams)
Unioto
Westfall
Zane Trace
Piketon
Waverly
VC, LE or GM

Small (6 teams)
Adena
Huntington
Southeastern
Paint Valley
Eastern
Western

wow personally playing for zane trace i think that is the wrong thing to do.The svc is perfectly fine the way it is,but if it were to expand let a couple teams<3 or 4 in> but not all of highland county.I personally look forward to playing all of the teams we play now because u know everyone and what they do.i think its a bad idea

I wonder how the current league schools feel about this issue. Some time ago it was believed Waverly had serious interest in joining the SVC.

They could just leave it the way it is.

Someone will have to decide to leave the league for any new teams to be added. It's nice to see a conference that has stability. It's starting to get confusing who is a member of some conferences around southern Ohio, with teams changing and moving around constantly!

All these ideas in MY opinion are not smart, the SVC might not have the greatest talent or success out of the league, but when it comes to in league play it's the most entertaining to watch. The schools all know each other, the are all small communities schools with great rivalries, don't ruin that by inviting an outsider to a family party. TRADITION

SVC shouldn't consider expanding...with the exception of baseball, volleyball and unioto dominating every year in track and xcountry, this is an average conference at best. The teams just dont compete well when it comes tournament time.

Believe it or not there is more to high school athletics then boys basketball and football.

The following is an example of what you can get into when coaches and AD's with in a league are not on the same page.
http://southeasternohiopreps.com/forum/ ... 21&t=87998

I know in the SVC the coaches and AD's will move mountains "and mounds of sand" to get games in this time of year.
Something that will be lost if the leage was to change....................

I think the original post is a bit much. But as others have mentioned adding a Waverly another big school then two smaller schools make sence. As one poster mentioned there are more sports than just football and boys basketball. And yes the league does have some weak spots when SVC teams play in the tourney, so why not add a few more schools and help better to prepare them for the respective sports tourneys. Honestly it is done at the lower levels (middle school) already. So would it really be that much of a catastrophic event to add a few schools. I would add a few and remain viable for a long time to come. But if schools are added there needs to be a long term commitment from the new schools as well as the present schools to stay within the league.

It would be interesting to hear from some of the older forum members regarding the old Ross County League and The Scioto Valley Conference?

Like everyone else I am not a decision maker, but I do have kids within the SVC. I would love to see the league remain, but also be competitive with other leagues within the tourney circles.

The old Ross County League :

"Current SVC members"
Unioto
South Eastern
Huntington

"Consolidated schools"
Centralia
Kingston
Twin
Buckskin
Bainbridge
Frankfort
Clarksburg

Centralia and Kingston consolidated to become Zane Trace

Twin, Buckskin and Bainbridge consolidated to become Paint Valley

Frankfort and Clarksburg consolidated to become Adena.

During this period of consolidation the county board wanted to close Unioto and split the district students up with Chillicothe, Zane Trace, Adena, Paint Valley and Huntington. The members of the Union Scioto "Unioto" school district got together and fought off the push to do so.

Adena volleyball, Uhs track are competitive with anybody in the state. The SVC baseball teams and softball teams regularly make regional/state appearances

Maybe the easiest thing to do would be just to add two bigs.

Smalls:
Adena
Paint Valley
Huntington
Southeastern
Piketon

Bigs:
Westfall
Zane Trace
Unioto
Two new schools (Waverly, Vinton Co. or McClain)
