Athens Dominates the TVC again...
Athens wins TVC Championships in every sport except Boys Basketball for the 2011-2012 sporting campaign. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe thats 40 TVC Championships in 4 years. Way to go Dogs!!!!

Don't go getting your panties in a wad just yet ... Football titles still run through Nelsonville - and basketball titles run through McArthur.

Looks like the two big boys of the league had a clean sweep. Maybe we should branch off in our own league bulldog, since the rest is just too small to compete. Lol

Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
Athens and VC aren't really as 'big' or bigger than one would expect ... The TVC-Ohio is actually on par with most leagues in Southeastern Ohio ... Every league has big schools/small schools.
In the SEOAL: The difference between the biggest and smallest is 299 boys.
In the MVL: The difference between the biggest and smallest is 246 boys.
In the SOCII: The difference between the biggest and smallest is 127 boys.
In the TVC-Ohio: The difference between the biggest and smallest is 146 boys.
* You don't even have to look at the situations of biggest/smallest when it comes to comparing numbers, competition and level of play ... (i.e.) The difference between Logan and Jackson is 183 boys; yet, I put the Ironmen on even par with the Chieftains in pretty much every sport including football. The difference between Athens and Nelsonville-York is only 146 boys ... Most people don't even realize that there is a bigger gap between Logan & Jackson than there is Athens and NY! Or how about Gallia and Academy and Logan? Uh, there is a huge difference of 220 boys.
I'm still baffled by the hoop-ala made over Athens/NY when Gallia, Jackson, Logan have been playing each other since the beginning of time without the 'big-fish-little-pond' remarks. 146 boys difference ... Go walk a mile in Portsmouth's shoes, then come back and make an argument ... The Trojans are outnumbered by 299 boys every time they take the field or court with Logan ... Then they have games versus Warren where they are outnumbered by 177 ... Chillicothe had them by 160 boys ... Even Jackson has 116 more boys than Portsmouth. Better yet, look at Crooksville - they play 5 games every season against teams that have 118 more boys ... When they take on Tri-Valley there is a 246 boys difference.

93 your numbers are way off. Since we are talking about girls and boys sports we may as well use the enrollment numbers from the OHSAA. And the official numbers that your league uses. Ohio division enrollment. 10 thru 12. Athens 850, VC 534, Meigs 526, Alex 494, Wellston 485, NY 387.... Dont walk a mile in anyones shoes till you get the correct numbers. Ask chuck for the numbers you will see these are the official numbers. Truth is your 2 1/2 times bigger than the smallest school.
Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
Gentlemen, I'm not sure why any of this matters---unless you can convince me that any of the AD'S or Principal's in the Ohio didn't know Athens was a "Bigger" school than them it's a moot point. They petitioned, they were accepted, let's move on--people will always be jealous of success---the refs cheated, you recruited, or whatnot. But crying the blues now doesn't seem right and who cares about the opinions of people from outside our league.
But to keep the pot stirred, the smaller schools (Hocking) do a legitimate point in track for singing the blues, Miller and Waterford will line up besides VC and Athens tonight in the TVC track meet---the scoring is separate but you have to compete against the Bigs to earn those points.

Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
I have heard this debate 100 times on here and it is pointless. People from bigger schools say it doesn't matter and people from the smaller schools say it does matter.
I don't know what my opinion is exactly on whether or not size of the school matters but is it a coincidence that Athens is the biggest school and is winning majority of the league titles? Maybe they just have a good stretch of athletes coming in right now and it will come full circle soon.
93 Bulldog, some of us were talking and we were wondering if you could help us out with a project, what percent of league titles in all sports has Athens won since coming into the TVC? A friend of mine guessed over 90% of the league titles. That number seemed high until I started looking at them.

Curious why OHSAA has Athens at 297 boys ... 292 girls.ucantcme wrote:93 your numbers are way off. BTW ... Going back to when I first started playing sports against other southeastern Ohio teams (7th grade) - clear up until 2008 ... ABOUT 34 YEARS; Athens was in the exact same position Nelsonville-York is in now ... We were always a much smaller school than our rival LOGAN ... Its why I am a little vocal over this subject ... WE NEVER CARED ABOUT SCHOOL SIZE, we never complained when Logan dominated a ton of sports over the course of a year ... We just hated purple and wanted to beat the Chieftains any chance we got. I've walked (and so has every Athens fan) a mile in the shoes that the other TVC teams are wearing now ... We were the 'little fish' in the pond for years and years. If anyone could go back on to jjhuddle and look over all the Athens/Logan topics, they would see out of about 15,000 posts I had - never once I did mention 'school size' ... We hated purple - they hates us - and we settled it on the field. No whinning, no crying, no blaming a loss because they were a bigger school, period!
catsandbucks ... I have no idea about the other sports ... I only follow the two major sports (boys/girls) each season.

Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
Since this is a FOOTBALL FORUM: Let me throw out a little notion here - and maybe a reason why the move for Athens to join the TVC was a good thing for everyone.
Lets look what happens this fall ... If Athens and Nelsonville-York have good seasons again (which is what is being projected at this point) Athens is going to roll into Buchtel with about 1,000 to 2,000 fans depending on the magnitude of the game ... The week 10 game has blown up beyond anyones expectations (because of the league implications and the awesome games the two teams have been engaged in 4 years in a row now) ... I mean, anyone that was at the Athens/Nelsonville-York game on the Plains this past fall would understand this point ... If the crowd is anywhere close to what it was at Athens this upcoming fall - the Nelsonville-York Athletics dept. is going to be laughing all the way to the bank! In this day and age with the economy the way it is and there is absolutly no money in the school systems - if you draw 4,000 fans x $5.00 a ticket = that's $20,000 alone at the gate ... Good lord, with concessions, gate money, etc.. etc... if a school can make $20,000 - $25,000 in a matter of 3 hours????? Please tell me the 'reward' is not worth the 'risk?'
"Risk?" ... That's funny ... Nelsonville-York recieves a huge pay day for playing a team ITS ABSOLUTLY DOMINATED over the last 20 or 30 years ... I guess we could go back to playing week 1 in the August heat in front of maybe 1,000 fans at best - but I'm guessing they keep it the way it is after they go make the deposit on Saturday morning after this years game.
EXPANDING THAT POINT ... I went to a lot of Nelsonville-York basketball games this winter, the Athens/NY game was far and away the biggest crowd I seen at Ben Wagner ... The Athens at Alexander game was crazy in the Alley - people had to stand up in the doorway as there were absolutly no seats anywhere - we were stuck sitting behind the Athens student section and were forced to stand all game. The pattern repeats itself over and over again for all the NY/Athens/Alexander sporting events (boys or girls).

So then get on your AD and tell Athens to quit blocking Jackson and Warren from coming in. The numbers I posted were from ODE that our league passed out. Let in Jackson, Warren Crooksville and Bern then split it 3 ways. Athens VC and Wellston are the schools blocking this from happening.

Its not like I am affiliated with the school - I have no idea what administrative moves they make ... If what you say is true - its not like Athens is afraid to play Jackson & Warren - we play them in everything already.

I believe Athens voted YES for Jackson and Warren. Athens was one of the few yes votes for Jackson. Warren had several yes votes, (Athens and NY voted yes) but not the required % needed to be readmitted.
Crooksville decided to remain in the MVL rather than join the TVC. I know travel was a big concern, but not sure if other factors came into play with that for Crooksville or not. I don't think Berne Union will leave the MSL, as they have natural geographic rivalries already in the MSL against similar sized schools.
Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
I have heard that Southeastern has been talking about a possible jump to the TVC.

I find it entertaining that everyone wants to be a part of the TVC. For years teams from the SEOAL have ridiculed the TVC just like the ugly little neighbor girl that you used to make fun of on when you were a kid. Now She is all grown up and and turned into a looker and everybody want's to date her.
I think some of the TVC teams feel like that little girl... Now that they are grown up and have established a fairly stable league they have no time or sympathy for the (kids) that used to make fun of her. :122245 :122245

Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
As an outsider looking in I can see both sides to this. Athens should win every league title because of size. true
Had Athens been in the TVC 10 to 12 years ago they wouldnt have won near as many titles. They do have agood run of athletes at the present time so timeing did play a great rule in them comeing right in to the league and dominateing somewhat in most sports.
All and all I think they are great for the TVC. Only school it hurts by them being in the league is possibley themselves in football points but even that is petey. Any school that dont want them in should change their mascot to the (chickens)

Maybe they (she) accepted Athens because we always paid attention to her growing up ... The Bulldogs had numerous TVC teams on the schedule for years - in all sports. I tell people all the time that Athens didn't change its entire schedule at all barely - they just switched the dates around and the emphasis of each game.
Here is a look at the schedule comparison from seven years ago when Athens was in the SEOAL:
2005 ................................... 2012
Nelsonville-York ..................... Nelsonville-York
Meigs .................................. Meigs
Alexander ............................. Alexander
Waverly ............................... Waverly
Gallia Academy ...................... Gallia Academy
Warren ................................ Warren
Jackson ............................... Jackson
River Valley .......................... Wellston
Logan .................................. Watkins Memorial
Marietta ............................... Vinton County
