Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2012
it is at memorial field 10 am saturday. come right down route 7 through beginning of town. when you come to second 90 degree turn go straight. this is sycamore street take it to 4th avenue. turn left on 4th avenue. go 4 to 5 blocks. football field is over the hill. if you get to Washington elementary stop you are there. field down over hill on previous block. i am not a great direction giver but those will get you there.

[/quote]as for who we will beat this year,i predicted that earlier>>
Athens - Close - Win/Loss @ Athens GA not good on turf! Really good Sophomore class
Licking Heights - Win/Loss- But it is at Home so- Either Way only know they return almost everyone??
Ironton - LOSS!! *Big Time pay back
Marietta - Should Win *they moved to a lesser conference
Vinton County - Win - prob the only double digit win for the Blue Devils
Chillicothe - Toss up i say Win* This game too could go either way i say 6 points either way
Warren - Loss * really good group of athletes i think they are the surprise of the league
Logan - Loss * Big rivalry game and usually involves the police! Up at Logan they win
Jackson - LOSS! - Best coaching staff in southern Ohio!
O.K. worst case scenerio IMHO 3-7 Best 7-3 that is figuring in the parity in the league.
There it is,I am not just downgrading anything. If half of you would be honest you wouldn't be setting yourselves up for disappointment like last year, then start blaming the coaches the scheme, were not as talented as we have been in past years, plain and simple we lost 2 college linemen and this team has very average speed.
to me this season comes down to if we are ready to on week 1. I always expect a team to look ruff first scrimmage but last year against portsmouth west the offense looked horrible. it looked much better by week 1 but will still not ready to go. if this teams offense is not ready to week 1. yes they could start 0-3. but even if they start 0-3 the worst i see this team finishing is 5-5. Anything below that would be a total nightmare would have to happen.
defensively i think this team will be fine. They will not shut down teams the way they did sometimes last year but defense will be adequate.
game 1 at athens: this is really a key game. i see this as a blue devil loss similar to last year. i just don't know if offense will be ready to go. saturday will show a lot. if this game is close i look for devils to have a great season. if they happen to win it then then i think the season could set up to be something special.
licking heights at home. I see this as a tough game could go either way. but i see this being a gallia win in a close game.
ironton_ unless they get intimated or bad called to death i think they get over the hump and it is a win.
marietta- win enough said
vinton county win- closer then a lot of people think.
chillicothie- i see this as a win chilly is going to be so beat up by early schedule 14 points will win it.
warren- win i see talent at warren have not scene toughness yet.
logan.- tight game win. this could be interesting logan game could go wrong way a lot will depend on where teams mindsets are
portsmouth- may be improved but this is a win
jackson- tightest in game in years but probably a loss.
this year if gallia wins 7 games they should be on cusp of playoffs if not in. 8 wins and i think this team is a playoff team.
i can not see this team going undefeated but i don't see anyone in this league going undefeated either. i will not be surprised if we have tri-champs with one loss.
The only thing that scares me about this team is each of last 2 years they have just came out flat 1 game. and that one game has cost them a playoff spot each year. last year it was Logan year before chillicothie. if you do the math a win in those games those years and gallia would be playing for its 3rd straight playoff season. that's what i don't understand when people say talent is down or scheme or something.
Now the league thing i get we have not even looked like we belonged on same field with Jackson last 2 years. lets hope we start to close that gap.

your calling for 7 wins?
Correct?
not likely i just feel this team does not posses enough speed to take pressure off the running game where imho we are lacking a game breaker,if we have to grind out 13-12 wins it's going to be a long season, the same lack of speed on offense is really going to be evident on the defensive side of the ball and this side is where losing the size is going to hurt most. we have never been good against power running teams, there may be more power backs on this schedule than we have seen for some time.
if we start 0-3 we might win 2 games!
Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2012
I'm saying 7 or 8 wins. I disagree with you on team speed though. As far as team speed, i think this will be the fastest of the last 3 teams we have had. Now that is Team speed i did not say we had a individual Austin Wilson speed. But as a team this team will be pretty quick. Size wise this team will not be that much smaller then what we have had either. I do agree we are a little smaller but we are faster. I think we will be just fine against peoples power games. The problem that we have had against power running teams is more of scheme problem then a personnel problem. The defensive scheme we run is made more for faster players then bigger players anyhow except for in a couple of positions and we have enough size to man those.
To be honest with you the offensive scheme in my opinion is also better run by smaller strong quick lineman. because the blocking schemes are all about creating angles and not about blowing people off the ball. We will see i have been wrong plenty of times before so i could be wrong again.

Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2012
i watched the rv 7on7 and except for maybe clagg rv was bigger and faster across the entire secondary and lb,davies was the fastest player on the field period! there is no game breaker in this bunch of players,on one occasion the brown kid 6' 3" 215 covered our fastest player 50yards down field.seoal83 wrote:I'm saying 7 or 8 wins. i don't see the speed or size you speak of!
Seth Adkins and Branson Barr are huge losses especially on defense is where we miss Barr!
in past years when jackson and ironton line up and blow our linemen and lb's 10yds down field that is not scheme it's having smaller guys getting blocked bigger guys, last year we played ironton well because young, taylor, barr atkins, were big enough to eat the blocks. they are all gone! we are not even as close in size as you say!

Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2012
Stephen Atkins and Bransen Barr are huge losses on the offense side of the ball, however Caleb Campbell and brian Williams are both big boys that will step up and take their spots. And btw neither Barr nor Atkins played defense against ironton last fall? That was guisinger, gragg, moss and Tackett? We return gragg and he will have pullins, williams, and Campbell to help him out. That d line is a little bit bigger than last years.

Bevo
we will just have to agree to disagree. considering they only played on 60 yards of field i never saw a time when players were 50 yards down field. plus the only deep patterns i saw gallia academy call were all players on go routes straight down the field how hard is that to cover on 7 on 7. as a matter of fact all 3 times gallia called that the quarterback just held the ball because no open receivers. i don't know when you would ever call that in a game unless a team had 9 or 10 in box and were playing press coverage. But i saw several times when gallia could create separation at what seemed like at will and if players could block after catches at 7 on 7's their would of been several breakaways. i am not saying river valley could not say same thing. Also i would not put a lot of stock in a 7 on 7.

Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2012
Understand someone broke into one of the coaches cars and a couple of players and stole some stuff.
Also, I understand that those working at the new football field are working on wiring that should have been completed earlier by construction people. How was this approved and by whom? Someone has to take responsibility or we'll never have a completed facility at Centenary.
Understand that the school's air conditioner that was struck by lightning during the June 29 storm caused several thousand dollars damage. Unreal.
Anyway, hope to view Gallia Academy's Saturday scrommage on Memorial Field with Parkersburg, beginning at 10 a.m.

Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2012
Gonna wait to see the scrimmage before going too far and making predictions. In order to win 7 or 8 games, several kids are going to have to make big steps up from last year. I thought that last year's senior class was really deep. We also played in a lot of close games and because of both of those things, the underclassmen didn't play as much as they might have. There were a handful of underclassmen to get plenty of PT, but I would've liked to have seen them play more.
They're going to be much smaller on the line than last year. That doesn't mean they won't have adequate size, but we were huge last year with Guisinger (310), Barr (275), Atkins(265), Campbell and Shoemaker not to mention Saunders at TE. I'd say that group averaged in the 260 lbs. range. This years group is going to be much closer to the 230 lbs. average. I don't know for sure, but I think that the largest kids (Campbell/Williams/Gragg) will be in the 260 range where they had three kids over that size last year. That's plenty big enough to be good, but size won't be one of our advantages like it was last year. On the defensive side, Gragg and Guisinger were so big and strong that they really tied up a lot of interior blockers allowing our LBs to make a lot of plays. Who is going to play inside with Gragg and fill that role.
I thought that last year's team was VERY slow on average. As much as I admired Brandon Taylor, a RB with a bit more speed may have gained 400-500 more yards than Taylor got last year. The team this year will be faster on average, but the big thing that both teams were/are lacking is a gamechanger like Austing Wilson or even Ethan Moore was two years ago. There just isn't much of a home run threat. Can Russell/Clagg/Logan/someone else develop into that threat? I'm hoping that a new offensive coordiantor can take advantage of what we do have rather than trying to make kids who have other strengths fit his offense.
Looking forward to Saturday.
