Parkersburg Vs Gallia Academy

Post by superblue »

Parkersburg Big Red will travel to Gallipolis this Sat for a 10:00 scrimmage against the Blue Devils. Gallia’s Coach Eddy was an assistant at Parkersburg before becoming head coach at Gallia.. The Big Red were 7-3 last year and qualified for the Playoffs. Had one common opponent , Marietta, which they beat 34-7… Sounds like both teams lost a lot of talent last year and are in a rebuilding mode. Looking forward to a good effort from both teams.

Seven on seven contest was a close one this summer, although pads and linemen will definitely change the game . Good luck blue

Friends from Parkersburg said that they felt that the Big Red should challenge for the state title in WV!!!! Either Parkersburg is not that good or the Blue Devils are really good!!!! I was impressed by GA....pretty good on offense....good run defense...terrible pass defense!!!! Hopefully they can get that figured out in the next couple of weeks!!!!

The blue devils absolutely put a hurting in the big red! There is no way Parkersburg
Will contend for a state tittle , the blue look sharp on the o, and both dline, and o line
Looked in sync. Yes some work to be done in the defensive backfield, but all in all a great start
Pburg looked horrible , plan and simple . No tittle town this year.

Gallipolis Gallia Academy rushed and passed for 512 yards against visiting Parkersburg on Memorial field Saturday as the Blue Devils pounded the Big Red, 5-1.

GAHS rushed for 395 yards in 45 plays, and added 117 yards via the air route with eight of 11 completions (no interceptions).

Parkersburg rushed for 93 net yards on 25 ground plays, but added 159 yards passing with 12 of 22 completions (no intercepyions) for 252 total yards in 47 plays from scrimmage.

First downs favored the Gallians, 22-7.

There were no kickoffs in the one hour and 45 minute scrimmage. Each team punted once without any pressure. GAHS was penalized twice for 30 yards. PHS was penalized once for 10 yards, but it was a big one by wiping out a 70-yard TD pass against the Gallians. Subs played approximately 40 minutes in the pre-season battle.

GAHS scored first on its second play from scrimmage--a 64-yard scamper. There was no try for an extra point.

Parkersburg came right back seven plays later on a 62-yard pass play. No point after was attempted.

GAHS scored again on a 10-yard run, and kicked the extra point.

Gallipolis scored next on a 30-yard pass play, but missed the PAT attempt.

Next Blue Devil score came on a 10-yard run. No PAT was attempted.

Final GAHS score camed on a seven yard run. The PAT attempt was good.

No numbers were available for the Blue Devils, thus no individual stats.

GAHS will visit Meigs Friday for its final scrimmage of the year. The game will be played in the new Marauder statium at Rock Springs near the high school.

Gallipolis will open its regular season Friday, Aug. 24, at Athens.

Nice turnout for Gallias first scrimmage. Had the pleasure to visit with a couple of my forum buddies. Gallia definitely outplayed PHS but the score would probably be a little closer if they competed in a real game.. Our play calling was more effective which leads me to believe the offseason addition of the offensive coordinator will pay great benefits this coming season. The pass defense looked a little shaky and needs a lot of work. Gallia scored on their first offensive play but had it been a regular season game the play would have been called back because of two obvious clipping penalties in the center of the field…. Plus PHS had one long touchdown pass called back because of a holding penalty … But overall Gallia looked pretty descent… Neither team should put that much emphasis of the outcome of this contest… Both teams came away with some positives & negatives. Important thing is to move on and try to improve and get ready for the season to start.

I plan on broadcasting the the Gallia/Meigs varsity (2 quarter) preview on Retro 92.1 FM and online at www.wyvk.com.

Could someone get me a roster (name and number will do) ASAP? You can e-mail it to me at [email protected], fax it to me at Meigs HS at 740-992-5839, or post it on this site.

Thanks

I'm not one to Sugar Coat Anything, so here goes:

Parkersburg isn't very good, PERIOD!!
I knew this long before today.
We are not even the best team in Wood County, WV much less the entire state.

WE are way to small on both the OL and DL
People will continue to pound the football against our undersized front 7.
We still have the same problem on Defense, a LACK of making a TACKLE.

Gallia looked good, but how much of it was the very real fact that We(Parkersburg) are not any good at the moment.

Coach Eddy showed every coach that views this film how to beat us.
Pound the Football, and
Put Heat on our QB.
He throws a nice looking pass, but was running for his life all day.

We don't have the horses anymore at Parkersburg that we have had since the early 70s on either line.

After watching this scrimmage:
"I'm not certain We(Parkersburg) can beat anyone on our schedule in 2012."
Hopefully the Coaching Staff can figure out something between now and 8/24 at Brooke.

Would agree that Parkersburg looked bad and GA looked good overall. However, without any other competition to add some perspective, I'd hold off on getting too excited or disappointed with either team.

GA did pretty much whatever they wanted offensively. There were holes open all day and the RBs did a nice job hitting them hard. Although the scheme was the same, the new OC was obvious. I was sitting with my son, who played last year, and we were both in shock seeing a play action fake and a wide open receiver because of it. The play calling was spot on and it really looked like we were playing toward our strengths. Defensively, the run D was pretty good, but the pass D needs shored up. It could have been worse for GA against the pass if our D-line wasn't all over the QB any time he dropped back.

There were several players that looked good for GA, but the overall sentiment I came away with was that I didn't think anyone looked terrible and that's rare for a first scrimmage. Looking forward to seeing next Friday's effort to see if we might be able to see if we're going to be as good as we showed today.

Hardfowl...Brent Simms is the new GAHS athletic director. If you can get ahold of him at the school (446-3212) he might have one ready for publication. Hobe.

What i took away from yesterdays scrimmage is that this years parkersburg team right now is not as good as portsmouth west was this time last year. And right now the day of the first scrimmage. GA is way ahead of where it was last year from a execution stand point. this is also first time i have scene GA in a few years seems like it has depth. usually when the starters come out there is a big drop off in preparation and execution, i think this is a good sign. But all today was is a big first step. We need another good week of practice and another step forward next week. We will need it if we are to beat Athens in 2 weeks.

I agree with the comments that I have read. IMO, the Blue Devils showed speed, strength, and depth. The o-line played faster than past years because the line was able to make pulls and the angles of the blocks opened up some holes. They may not have the large structured lineman but they showed strength and they were understanding the schemes. The Defensive line is one word "good". Never judge a ball team based on 7 on 7. I saw the Devils play 7 on 7 and the QB cannot cherry pick with that pressure. The linebackers played very well and showed themselves well actually they surprised me without their starting linebacker. The defensive backs are very athletic and can play ball but the coaches need to stress the importance of staying at home a little longer (ie see the ball across the line of scrimage before committing) and have confidence that the d-line and linebackers will stuff the run. Running backs are strong and showed speed. Q-backs, yes I mean plural, both looked good and are capable to lead the team. Recievers can catch the ball and do not seem imtimidated with a hit. I am excited about what I saw for the first scrimmage.

The question is "How good was Parkersburg?" I believe that they are good because they have some very good athletes. From my perspective the Devils physical strength made the diference. Next weeks scrimage will confirm necessary improvements. Hint: Instruct the d-backs.

These boys have paid the price and have a desire to move forward. They need to remember the following have a good Attitude, keep the proper mind set, improve each week, not overlook anyone (show respect), and give "God the Glory" those traits will make give you a successful life.

A suggestion to all remember they are still kids and respect the Coaches. Allow the kids and staff enjoy the season!

Good Luck Blue.
