How has everyone looked in scrimmages? Haven't seen many posts. Especially how have the Buckeyes looked?

They looked really, really good I thought ... good size up front (both offense and defense) ... a nice group of RB's with a young, tall and slender soph QB running the show.

They are no longer in the Ohio, and they were not always as small as they are while they were winning championships.
They have always been smaller than VC and Meigs and they were the last team to win the title not named Athens or NY.
Yes and when they won most of their championships Ralph Holder was the coach, and therefore all things were not equal. He was a great coach who built a great program, and the other schools like VC did not have that yet. The most recent title was one of those things that happen once in a while. The bigger schools don't always win, or there would be no reason to play the game. But again, all other things equal the bigger school should win most of the time.

The Buckeyes offensive and defensive line are looking better than they ever have in years, and with the experienced backfield behind the sophomore QB, I don't think the sophomore has too much to worry about.

They better get accustomed to 'fighting like hell' to get it every year O & B ... Athens is loaded with youth and talent buddy ...

I see the week 10 match-up just getting bigger and bigger every year - I know its hard to believe after last years game - but it might have been just be the beginning.

(actually, the 2009 game would be considered the 'match that lit the fire' ... )

I hope the game does get bigger and bigger every year. Games like that define high school football in my book and there is nothing better than going into a week 10 game with playoff, league and bragging rights on the line. Gettin fired up just thinkin about it

I think Meigs could be a dark horse this year. I'm not saying they win the league but they may be in the hunt week 9

Awwww...the numbers game again....Your argument might be valid when it comes to football, but don't forget the other sports where numbers do in fact play a major role. Take our wrestling team for example, 6 state qualifiers and two state champions and finish 4th in the state of Ohio and can't win the league. But since this is a football thread, let's talk football.

Actually, your point supports the numbers theory, or game as you labeled it. They placed fourth in the state partly due to the number of wrestlers they sent to the state. Most of the teams did not have 6 qualify. So by shear numbers alone NY was in a good position to place. Now obviously those wrestlers had to score some points. If they had all lost in the first round the team would have tied for last place. In the TVC having 6 of the best wrestlers does not ensure a championship. Some of the teams have more wrestlers than that, and Athens has numbers and a great coach.

His point is that we can send 6 kids to state, 2 of them win state titles, and finish 4 as a team and we still could not score enough points to beat Athens at the TVC Tourny because Athens has 2 kids for every weight class. At NY they struggle to fill out and most years do n't fill out all the weight classes.

When you go to state each team is only sending there best so the numbers are smaller.....

And my point is that since you had more kids at the state tournament than most schools you had a better chance of placing than those other schools. Just as by Athens having more numbers puts them in a better position to win the TVC. In both cases however, the quality of coaching had to be high for the numbers have the full impact. We are arguing the same point I believe.

My take on this is that numbers do matter, but so do other factors. NY has a great football program and will play tougher than their numbers might indicate. Whereas VC is spread out over a whole county and it's numbers will be misleading (especially in the days of nearly $4 a gallon gas). Does this mean VC can never win, no they had a lot of success under O'Rouke (sp) but it has to be tough to get kids out who may live nearly 20 miles from the school.

Each sport will be different track, wrestling, and maybe others (Cross Country) can be dominated by the team with the most athletes.

The elephant in the room is Athens---They have no more kids than when the league accepted them---what has changed is that the football and boys basketball programs are much improved. These are the two sports that drive league formations (though you could argue that the Hocking was driven by football and softball when they tried to boot Wahama).

If you complained about Athens coming in then in my mind you have a right to complain-----if you didn't complain when they came in don't complain now.

Vegas is giving heavy odds against that Wellstons pick, and an expert handicapper is asking why, based on last year and player losses are people thinking Wellstons will be there at the end?

The road to the TVC Ohio goes through Buchtle and the N-Y Buckeyes, they are the most consistent team year in and year out.

1. N-Y
2. Athens
3. Meigs
4. Wellston
5. Alexander
6. Vinton Co.

Just my opinion.
