Good job blue devils. lets see did we solve any myths tonight.
1. this team has no talent.
2. this team has no team speed
3. this team has no breakaway threats
4. you can't pass out of this offense.
5. you can't play behind in this offense.
6. this coaching staff can't make adjustments
7. and finally we are going to have to win games 10-7
8. the quarterback is a duel fret.

just kidding guys.
great game.
did nick clagg break his foot or is it something else.
we need to get quicker punt snaps or we are going to have more punts blocked
good defensive adjustments taking away the cushion and adding pressure.

let's go have another good week of practice and get better.

Congratulations to GAHS on a well played game and a well earned victory. I worked the Gallia sidelines tonight and was impressed with their coaching staff and players. Gallia has made tremendous strides with their offense and has some talented kids. I think most people at the game would tell you the game was very good and could have gone either way until the last 2:00. Athens will learn alot these first few games and will likely take a few lumps in the process but it should all pay dividends down the road. Hang in there Dogs and keep your heads up! Good luck to the Devils the rest of the way.

Way to go blue devils!

Nice adjustments at halftime then spotting our weakness and jamming that T formation down our throats. The devils came out at halftime, kept getting into our backfield and applied heavy pressure to our sophomore QB. We needed another back behind the line of scrimmage to pick up the ends that kept crashing in on us. Our defense just couldn't handle that T formation with two lead blockers in the devils backfield..... very effective and it demoralized our d line.

A well deserved victory for the Blue Devils

I didn't mention it earlier but i was very impressed with athens and was not comfortable until we got the field goal late. when they all get together and can pick up tempo a little bit they are going to be very hard to defend.

Won't be able to get stats and game report done tonight. Gotta get up early Saturday and watch grandson take part in Cross Country meet at Wellson. Besides, it's gonna take all day to sort through 56 points.

the devils get a big 1st win surprising score
the offense looked better at times, but this was a young athens team that just had a lot of breakdowns on defense as did we
i am concerned about our defense this was a sloppy game
remember it's 1 game don't go giving GA the seoal title just yet
i hope we play like this on offense every week but now coaches can prepare for us and we can be scouted team speed is ok
good job devils get ready for licking heights because they are not a young team

I'm not giving this team anything extra. Sort of predicted 7-3 or 8-2 depending on outcome of this game. But i thought they would be a very good 7-3 or 8-2. now i think they are a very solid 8-2 team and if they continue to improve every week they have a shot at doing some very good things and turning it in to a special season.

My only point is look at all the posts leading up to this year about all this teams faults and limitations. Tonight was a very positive step in showing that the those limitations are myths. I give the defense a lot of credit. that is hard team to defend especially in an opener. A lot of the defensive miscues were do to us not being used to playing a spread passing team like that. And that big number 16 was a real challenge for small defensive backs.

This coaching staff has took a lot of heat about not being able to make half time adjustments. look at what happened after halftime last night gallia gives up 6 points and that was set up by a blocked punt.

I think a huge difference for this team this year is going to be the maturing of the qb. he is no longer that green sophomore from the beginning of last season. now this team still has to improve every week to become the team i see them being but more then met my expectations this week.

I agree Galliagrad78. We need remember they are kids and are not paid to play. Actually both teams last night played their hearts out and made it a great game to witness from the stands. If we play with the heart I seen last night we will compete all year IMO. Not to steer from football but I had a older son that was not the fastest (speed) distance runner but wore down the competition by running a hard race all the way due to his training and desire to win. This same principle applies to all segments of our life. The smartest, fastest, nor best athletes always win. But the determination, mindset, and work ethic will take you a long way in life and create success. Coach has embedded that work ethic, mindset, and determination in those boys.

Gallia should have many positive things to take from last nights as should our Bulldogs, I thknk our team is very young (mostly sophomores) and our inexperience showed up a bit in the second half. This group of Dogs is a year away from being really good and the growing done in this early stretch of tough games should help come week 4 or 5 and beyond. Some personnel adjustments must be made if Athens is going to be successful this season, Skyler needs moved back to safety, one DB who I will be kind enough not to single out by name or number needs to get aggressive on the field or grab a clipboard, we need to find another tailback to help Trey out, and for the love of god can we find one kid on the roster to kick the ball. I would have though after the Nelsonville game last year that we would have seen the tremendous value of a good kicker and made it a priority.

Injuries early on have hurt a bit A-Town ... Freddie Stalder was supposed to be the RB and Trey was going to 'help' him out ... the loss of a starting linemen (West) for the year also hurt ... and I agree, lets just let a soccer player play from the get-go instead of waiting until week 10.

It's possible that Athens will be winless when they start TVC play but that's why they got in the TVC. They will win the TVC with ease. I notice some posters are now saying they're a year away when all summer people were saying they'd be 10-0. Funny how a loss changes the tone. Why get a soccer player can't the coaches staff develop a kicker? They know that's always a weakness so why not work with someone in the off season to develop a kicker? If i'm the soccer coach I rule out having one of my players take a chance on getting his player ruffed after a kick and ending his soccer season. With Nelsonvilles loss to Trimble Athens walks throught the TVC.

Wow!! I wasnt sure if we were going to come out ahead in this game after the first half. Athens had a pretty powerfull spread O that i knew could cause us some problems. We made adjustments and seemed that we became more dominate than them in the second half. Athens played a good game with alot of young kids. I think they should have a good season. The Devils look like they can be explosive and need to continue to work on the finer parts of the offense to make things click down the stretch. Defensively, it seemed we got better as the night went on. I think we will be ready mentally for any other teams that spread the offense and our challenge will be handling the matchups.

The starting QB (Burrow) is a sophomore, the starting RB (Williams) is a sophomore, two wide-outs (Luehrman, Luehrman) are sophomores ... they're are underclassmen up and down the line on both sides of the ball ... anyone with any common sense knows Athens would go through some growing pains early on, greatone.

First off I don't think anyone with knowledge of the football team would have predicted 10-0, we are loaded with young talent but the will need a little time to grow. I agree, I think we need to develop a kicker and a kicking "program" and not need to rely on soccer to do it for us. I thought we'd win 6 or possibly 7 games this season and if they keep focused, I still believe that to be true.

This may be the last game I see GAHS play this year. My thoughts on last nights game were;
The sopomore QB for Athens has tremendous potential.
GAHS wore Athens down (last year they wore us down)
GAHS half time adjustments O and D determined the outcome.
GAHS has better team speed than last year, but still will be slower than most teams.
GAHS D line was not impressive, hopefully it was because of Athen's spread
There is nothing wrong with JR leadership but seniors need to step up.
The team toughness compared to last years team seemed to be down. This years players need to remember the toughness of Taylor, Saunders, Bokovich and Guisinger. Bring the attitude they had every Friday night.
The Athens win should bring a lot of computer points, but it is very early, GAHS must win their games.
