SOC II
Who takes the SOC II this year and why? As of now Valley is still the champs untill they are beat.
Re: SOC II
Valley lost a lot of talent, and that's something that isn't easily replaced. I haven't seen them yet this year, but my bet is definitely on West. They lost a lot of talent too, but they have just as much talent coming up.
Re: SOC II
Anytime you have a new QB, it is a tough adjustment. Everyone in the SOCII has a new QB, except Waverly. That doesn't mean I think Waverly will win the gold football this year, but they should have a much improved year. Until a week or 2 into the season it will be tough to say how the SOC will go because of all the new faces, but I don't see a clear favorite at this point.
Re: SOC II
Valley had the most talented team in school history come through last year , from the QB, RB, WR, and that o-line . It will be a long time before that is replicated at Valley ! JMHO West will win the SOC 2 with what they have returning cant see anyone in the conference beating them .

It wont take THAT long...VERY good younger kidsNTHZONE wrote:Valley had the most talented team in school history come through last year , from the QB, RB, WR, and that o-line . Re: SOC II
I think Valley could be in the mix IF they win saturday. I think the Portsmouth game is one of those games that could carry over and potentially make or break the season. At least get the kids mentality started off one way or the other.
Re: SOC II
Should be an interesting year in SOC II. Waverly finished strong last year and as stated, they return their QB. This makes them pretty formadible, but I don't know that they have enough to win the league. Burg was young experience wise last year but they always have mature athletic kids, and they really don't know what a down year is... I expect them to be in the mix for the confrence title, because they always find a way to win games and improve as the season progresses. Minford has some good sophomore talent at the skill positions to go along with a returning QB, and the best lineman in the league. I just don't know that they have enough speed and explosiveness to win the league.... I think they're a 6-4 type team. West is always tough and always physical. They find a way to have 3-4 backs that are very similar, physical punishing type runners. They're always good and they are always tough, but they never seem to be as good or as tough as their fans make them sound on SEOPs. That doesn't mean that they aren't solid and won't be challenging for the title, it just means the normally have weakness (like all teams) that aren't acknowledged on the other side of the river. Valley obviously lost a ton of top talent to graduation, but the rest of the league lost their fair share too... They kind of remind me of last season's Burg team. They have physical athletic SR QB and bunch of young speedy skill kids eager to prove themselves. Most of these kids would have played at other schools but were blocked by a talented senior class. Their line is big and physical, but not very deep. But the Indians will be a factor in SOC II. Prediction wise, I think West is the favorite, followed by Burg and Valley, then Waverly and Minford are just a tier below the top 3.
Also the Valley freshman class is very talented... Looking like a few of those guys are pushing for varsity time. They were fun to watch the few games I saw in Jr high last season and I've heard that they made an impact in Valley's scrimmages this year. The Indians cupboard isn't exactly bare.

Dont forget about the junior class. This is a very good group of kids. The Junior class is the one that went to Ironton when they were 8th graders and hung 44points on Ironton at Ironton. Dont overlook this team. There is still alot of talent here. This Junior class and Freshman class are both very special and loaded with athletesizladoom wrote:yeah it wont take near as long as people think i keep hearing the freshman class at valley is going to be better than the one we just had.

Yes the juniors are very talented. I think the miller twins can dominate on both lines and we have some good players at the skill positions. Next year I think we will surprise a lot of teams if not this year. All we need I think is for one of the receivers to step up. The talents there just seems like the team is still looking for some leaders.

Re: SOC II
The Junior class is pretty strong. As far as the Miller boys, I haven't seen anything out of them yet to where I would list their names and dominate in the same sentence. Being big kids doesn't make them great football players by any stretch. Do they have the potential to be good players? Yes. But from what I have seen, they have a long way to go.izladoom wrote:nutronron2012 wrote:Dont forget about the junior class. This is a very good group of kids. As far as the league goes, I would make West my favorite. They lost a ton of talent, but I feel like their system, while limiting them in the postseason, is the best system for plugging in players and continuing success. When you run a system like Valley and Wheelersburg (last year anyway) that depends on the quarterback making a lot of play, losing talent makes it harder to reload.
I will say West wins it, with Burg, Minford, Waverly, and Valley all with a chance to win it with a few breaks. I would not be surprised if anyone of those 4 teams finish 2-5 in the league. I truly believe that any of those teams could be 4-1 or 1-4 in the league.
Re: SOC II
Talking about QBs I think Valley has a smoking gun with the freshmen his time will come along with the rest of the talent in that grade I think there will big plays this year out of that freshmen class as far as soc goes it may or not happen this year but I think they will contend
Re: SOC II
I think Valley will compete because they now believe they can win these ballgames with Burg, Minford, etc..(not discounting West, but Valley has played well against them since joining the SOC 2) and last year showed them they are a capable program, after all the years of hearing they couldnt, they did. I'm not saying this will translate to league dominance or anything, but every few years or so the Indians will be able to hoist the gold football.
As far as this year, I'd say mid pack is a safe bet, and there is nothing wrong with that, as they are a young football team. Dont be surprised to see them as SOC II champs once again VERY soon.

Going to be an interesting year in the league. West's lopsided loss to Fairland is by far the biggest surprise of the week. Lots of football to be played and teams will only get better but I can't help but believe there are a few scratching their heads on the West-side.

Re: SOC II
Either West isn't as strong as some on here predicted or Fairland is a pretty good team this year. I really like the Burgs chances after how well they played against Ironton.
