Don't believe everything you hear. Nobody has been hired. Still 3 in the running.

Jus saw it on their Facebook page. BTW, nothing is "official" until the board approves it technically.GalliaGrad78 wrote:kvnchambers wrote:according to the high school football website it is Bartholomew is the new coach.

Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2013
New coach from Huntington Ross, Div 5 Reg 20....5-5 last year.... Go to Huntington Ross High School football website and view his family picture.. Hopefully he retains the whole staff, if not coud be a long transition for success.
Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2013
I think this is a good hire. Huntington Ross had a 26 game losing streak when he got there. He started with practically nothing and did a good job getting them back on the right path. His Dad was successful at D3 Logan Elm where he was an assistant and he played college QB. I worry about his youth and his ability to form relationships with some of the older coaches on the staff. However, this is the kind of hire that could possibly mean long-term success for the program. If we couldn't get a coach with a successful, proven backgroun, I'd rather have a young, upcoming coach than recycling some of the names that were thrown around that had a mediocre past.
Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2013
Good thoughts 83.... Will he keep this years staff and how will they get along... Hard to tell... Being younger than all the staff could be a problem, maybe not . But don't forget most of our staff interviewed for the job and were told no thanks... We saw huge strides in our offense last year and hope it continues in the years to come...
Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2013
Only time will tell. I still think they should have stayed in house. I think there might be 2 coaches who will be moving on when the opportunity comes around.

I've heard McClelland and Penrod were coming back. Anyone know any others he's hiring?

Re: GAHS FOOTBALL 2013
There is also the possibility that a new coach might not want other guys who applied for the position remaining on staff.
To this day, my father (who was a freshman defensive tackle in 1970 when the Marshall plane crash occurred) says that Red Dawson was trying to undercut Jack Lengyel after the Marshall administration went outside to get a new HC (and please don't cite the film WE ARE MARSHALL as counter evidence. That was a feel-good movie that was designed to be uplifting, not a historical document).
It sucks sometimes, but there you have it.

Penrod doesn't have a teaching position at GAHS so he could easily move to another school as an assistant if he felt slighted. If he's staying at GAHS, my guess is he enjoys being a part of the community, likes the kids he gets to work with, and most importantly supports the new coach and the direction the program is going.

Locos --
I was making no comment about Penrod, McC, or any other GA assistants. I was merely saying that many times, incoming coaches clean house because they have seen the dynamic I mentioned.
The only negative i have ever heard anybody say about Penrod is that he has a big ego, but hell, lots of us are guilty of that one.

A new head coach knows that it's his arse on the line when he gets hired.
It's hard to blame a guy when he has reservations about trusting somebody he just beat out for a job, regardless of how good a guy the second-place candidate seems to be.

Like Dana Holgorson and Bill Stewart?
However, I don't see this being a problem at GA
