Valley(7) @ (35)Portsmouth
Valley(7) @ (35)Portsmouth
This game kicks off high school football in our area. Thursday night game (August 24) at Portsmouth.
Both teams appear optimistic and will be improved from last year. Thoughts....and who's all going?

Re: Valley @ Portsmouth
Portsmouth seems poised for a good year but I wouldn't write Valley off in this one. From what I've heard Valley has a big strong offensive line and we know they have a really good back. Portsmouth has struggled on defense the last few years. If Valley is able to grind out first downs and control the clock this will be a good game. Puts a lot of pressure on an offense when they sit on the sidelines watching the other team march the length of the field and take several minutes off the clock.

Weather for Thursday looks fantastic! Portsmouth looked very good in their scrimmage and Valley should be greatly improved. This should be a good one.
Curious as to starting time also.

Game time is 7:00.
This one will be a good barometer to see just how far the Indians have come. They were so young last year, but a lot of those kids played a ton of snaps and now are more physically ready to compete. Unlike last season, there is competition for roles as there are players who will be backing up that probably would have started on the 2016 team. As long as Gabe Streeter is healthy and the offensive line plays to it's potential, Valley can surprise some people. There just seems to be a whole new attitude surrounding the team this year and I feel they will be a lot more enjoyable to watch. Whether that translates to a win Thursday remains to be seen, but I do think this will be a very good game.

Re: WK1 Valley @ Portsmouth (8/24)
I expect Portsmouth to come out and make a statement.
Josh "the machine" Matiz will shore up the defense this year and from what I have heard, they have several playmakers on offense and big, athletic lines on both sides of the ball.
I think Valley will be much improved this year but this will be a very hard game for them to compete in talent and experience wise.
Good luck to both teams on an injury free game.
I will say:
Valley 14
Portsmouth 35

Portsmouth will be too much for Valley in this matchup...I predict Portsmouth 45 - Valley 21
Re: WK1 Valley @ Portsmouth (8/24)
What time does the gate open? Crowd will be huge as there will a lot of folks coming from surrounding schools. Is there adequate parking?
Re: WK1 Valley @ Portsmouth (8/24)
Portsmouth QB will be the difference in this one. You can load box on Parker but this kid is athletic and makes the offense more versatile. I think valley can move the ball enough to slow it down though. I'd say 27-12.

I'm going to also pick Portsmouth. However, I do think it will be closer than most people think. 21-13 Ptown

I agree with your pick that Portsmouth will take this game, but I can't imagine that either defense will hold their opponenttobehonest wrote: ↑Thu Aug 24, 2017 11:55 am I'm going to also pick Portsmouth. However, I do think it will be closer than most people think. 21-13 Ptown
to only 13 points. I expect a high scoring game by both teams.
