West scored the winning TD with just a few seconds left in the game after a bad punt by Waverly that gave the Senators the ball on Waverlys 36.

West holds on 14-13 stopping Waverly's 2-point pass attempt on the last snap. Gritty performance by the Tigers. Classic hangover game for West. Take the Harbin points and move.

How did they score so quickly? Did they run the lick back or what?

^^^

Long pass to Chapman down to the 30 with 10 or so seconds left. Pass down to the 10 with 4.8 seconds left. TD pass with no time left. Waverly was in the shot gun with four wide outs on all three plays. Should would love to see more of that!

Waverly defense stuffed West most of the night, many times for a loss. Long screen pass lead to West first score. West defense was solid also. Great game and liked the call to go for the win.

All heart and guts from the Tigers tonight, battling injuries and banged up. Lights out defense, offense came out 2nd half with some new life.
ENDING: Kickoff was returned to the Tiger 46 with .17 to play. Pass to Chapman and out of bounds at the 23 with 8.6 to play. West offside moved it to the 19. Pass to Cottonbrook and out of bounds at 10 with 4.8 to play. Timeout Waverly. Perkins rolled to his left looking for a receiver, no one open, threw back to the right and hit Chapman for the TD with no time. No timeouts to set up the 2 point conversion but there was no hesitation to go for 2 and it was the absolute correct decision. It just wasn't meant to be.
COULD NEVER BE PROUDER OF A GROUP OF TIGERS! CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT - A WEST HANGOVER OR WHATEVER, DA TIGERS PLAYED SOME HARD NOSED FOOTBALL WITH NO QUIT TONIGHT!

Twice this season Waverly has scored on the last play of regulation to pull within one or two points. Both times they went for two and didn't get either one. Heartbreaking but great effort and no quit in the Tigers!

Portsmouth had to be a two to force OT and ran a full house run that was stuffed, this time a 2 for the win and pass incomplete. A loss at Coal Grove was extra point conversions. Both teams scored 3 TD's. They need to build from this game tonight and win the last two which is very doable. If they play like tonight against Minford and Peake they'll go out 4-6 and knowing they could easily have been 7-3. You hate it for the Seniors not winning but they are shaping the program for future Tigers. There are several underclassmen, including sophomores, playing significant rolls on the team this year. I think the future is bright for the Tigers! Gotta get more kids playing next year though.

Waverly played really well. West played really sluggish. Trap game after the Valley win and I think the stuff the team went through this week off the field had an effect also. But don't take anything away from Waverly. They had a great defensive plan and it worked. West is going to have to figure out what to do when teams stack the LOS and blitz like that. But they will.

We may look back in a couple weeks and say a close game like this may be the best thing for them.

Amen! Great post.

Great post come on! I don't care about the coaches but to say that West only had a couple of kids that played with any heart is off the map. Was you ever at practise or in the locker before or after games when kids played their hearts I doubt it.

Waverly's deep snapper was hurt prior to the West TD. The backup snapper had a bad snap which caused the bad punt to set up a short field for the West TD. The injury to the deep snapper must have also influenced the decision to go for 2 for Waverly instead of playing for OT. However, I think going for 2 was the right called regardless of the injury. Waverly's offense did not do a whole lot most of the night (neither did West), so this was probably their best chance to win. It sure looked like West was offside on the 2 point conversion try.

Sometimes you win games when you don't play your best or are outplayed. Good teams find a way to win. West overcome adversity and found a way.

The two point conversion was absolutely the right call imo. They had all the momentum. Waverly is definitely headed in the right direction with Coach Crabtree. They have size to work with, but they play with a toughness that has been lacking for several years.
