A couple thoughts, BurgGrad and bman comments have some validity both West Jefferson and Bishop Ready who were state final four teams last year in D5 and D6 are down this year. Ready #1 ranking this year after 3 games was a result of last year's success and a 3-0 record coming into the game from not very good opponents. So they are correct in that assessment in my opinion.

ThenWhat, Division size not always and usually doesn't play a factor when the "smaller" school has a program with success like a Burg or a West Jefferson or a Ready. In fact Maria Stein (Marion Local) a D7 school or a Kirtland (D6) or a Coldwater (D5) would and do beat about any D3 or even "bigger" school because they are traditionally great programs. Ready had 9 band members lol but had 40 some football players, so the numbers are there. In our area Jackson can play 4 other schools of our "size" (Athens, Vinton County, Chillicothe and Logan). Only one of those are on our schedule this year but we add another next year. We would love to have the other two as well because finding 6-7 non league games is tough business.

Turning back to the game, the pluses as I see them for the Ironmen are: we have gotten better each week; with the exception of some small dings are healthy; starting to really gel as a team and as defensive and offensive units.

The minuses are: until you beat someone and especially the way Burg handled us last two years mentally you have to overcome that; it is at Burg and their atmosphere is worth a few points and is a great high school venue; Jackson defensively seems to fare better against a run team than a spread team and Burg is very athletic and will spread us out.

Bottom line if we can take a couple punches and hang around for a half and stay on our game plan I think we will compete much better than last couple years and I fully expect a great game. Last game of a 3 year contract and hoping 3rd time is the charm. Go Red.

Jackson showed a lot against a team, who might not be as good as they were last year but still a good team.

I believe this is another game that will show the fans a lot about both teams.

It's at the Burg, so that alone is worth a few points, being they are tough to beat there.

Good luck to both teams and may the better team on this night win and do so with class.

I think this will be a hard fought game. It will be tough, but the Ironmen can win.

Burg can't and wont be able to run the ball against an extremely tough Ironmen defense. They are just as fast and athletic as burg is in all facets of the games. I watched the Ironmen the past two weeks and was thoroughly impressed. Yes, West Jeff and Ready are a little down this year, but they are still great football teams. Now, turning to West Jeff's loss this past week, they had multiple starters with either limited to no reps in that game due to injury suffered in their game against Jackson. Burg and Jackson big haven't faced an opponent like each other. Burgs first four are a little softer compared to Jackson's. Burg has not been hit as hard or have seen such a swarming defense like the Ironmen. Overall, it will be a slobber knocker for sure. But in the end, Jackson wins: 28-24

Ok so I'm going to give Jackson the credit they deserve! Jackson has a really good run defense. Wheelersburg will have to use their oline to open up holes and establish a solid rushing attack early. If not burg will be one demensional and that scares me. Burg is a beatable team. Every team is beatable... However to beat burg u are going to have to stop the run without overloading the box. Burg is very fast and athletic and will beat u on short routes all night.as for Jackson they seem to be a run first squad and they are very good at it! However I have seen them air it out and they don't seemed rattled at all in doing so.IMO I think burg will win this game in the trenches!! If Jackson can stay in the game by the 3rd then they have a good chance. All of this still doesn't change my mind about what I think the final will be I'm just being real on what I see Jackson bringing to the table. However this is hs football! Lol anything can happen!!

Footballlover07..... You think burgs first four games have been softer than Jacksons?? Hahaha Ironton would smash any1 that Jackson has played so far!!! Also what makes you think burg won't be able to run? We have ran the ball on every defense we played! Our online can and will open holes against anyone they play!! I know that Jackson don't have near the athletes as Portsmouth and look how that ended up! Also I know Ironton has a bigger stronger and faster dline than Jackson. U need to open your eyes!

In the game last year the burg looked to me to have a lot more overall team speed than jackson, burgs team speed this year is at least on par with last years team and arguably a little faster.

I have seen Ironton play twice and Jackson once I was more impressed with Jackson than Ironton I think Ironton was slow and out of shape I think Jackson will win this game and the Ironton game as well...

Ready and West Jeff have great football programs, but their teams are down this year. Madison Plains is very, very mediocre, at best. And MP plays a non-league schedule to build confidence. To lose like that, at home, is shocking for West Jeff, even with injuries. West Jeff was also handled the week before the Jackson game by Jonathan Alder, which is down from where it has been in the past.

Like I said earlier, I give Jackson credit for scheduling those games, because both West Jeff and Ready are very good programs. Jackson can do nothing about both programs being off this season. But, at the same time, we aren't going to regard a win over West Jeff or Ready like we would've if it happened last year.

Jackson is one of the top 10 schools in SE Ohio, there is no doubt. I put Athens first, Burg second and then I have teams like Jackson, Logan Elm, Trimble, Ironton, Valley etc. following them in no particular order. We'll see if Jackson moves up the list this week,.

[quote="BurgGrad_06"]Ironton was and is the best team on burgs schedule.. I know Jackson is a good team but IMO they are not as good as Ironton. Jackson has a strong running game, or at least they did again ready! I don't think Jackson has the personel to match up against burg. No taking anything away from the ironmen because they will win their share of games this season.I just think burg is too strong and balanced this year! Burg 42-14![

To say that Ironton is the best team on burgs schedule and to beat them like that you are in for a rude awakening for this week and in week 9.......

Not trying to get too far off topic but valley better worry about the other "w" teams before thinking they can play on the field with wheelersburg!

valley has proven the last 3 years they do not fear the burg, they have smacked them in the mouth the last 3 years and if it werent for shank putting on a superman cape in 2010 it would probably be 4 years in a row. valley is riding a heck of a winning streak right now and until someone beats them they have proven that they are the best program in this part of the state. valley has a strong junior class and should be the best team in the area next year but after that it looks like they could be down for a while. Ironton played a good first half against the burg, partly because the burg was giving them the ball at midfeild every possession, but the win on the rode against a pretty good amanda team is impressive. I think they are a little better than some of you think.

I hate when these type of discussions break out...this is Jackson vs. BURG and thats really all that needs to be discussed. Valley is not doubt very good, as well as Burg, Jackson, and Ironton. All 4 quality teams with quality programs. Valley has plenty to worry about in West and Waverly before even considering the Pirates. I like the Indians chances of beating the Pirates more next year than I do this one. Lets get back to topic....

Good Luck SOC2 AND THE Pirates.

I think this will a good game till half.
After the half I think Burg's no huddle spread will wear Jackson down like it did Ironton.
Ironton is greatly improved from the first game can Ironton beat Burg right now I doubt it.
But if they meet in the playoffs I like to say yes.
As for Jackson they are 4-0 for a reason and it isn't but luck or accident Jackson is a very solid team can they beat Burg I don't think so I believe Burg is a very solid team and will more than likely go 10-0.
As for Jackson and Ironton game that will be a good game to and Ironton would be wise to watch this game closely and take from it for the Jackson game they have coming up and the Burg game that may happen in the playoffs.
Counting my chicks before they hatch maybe with Ironton making playoffs but I believe this Ironton is a lot better than the first game of the season.
My thinking of this game is Burg 31 Jackson 20
