Week 3--Gallipolis at Fairland

Post by jottings »

Gallipolis will play a non-league game at Fairland Friday. GAHS is 1-1 on the year. Fairland 0-2. Thoughts. It will be the second meeting between the two teams.

I would like to see fairland win but seeing their lack of defensive play I think gallia will take the win!

blue devils will have to improve again this week in practice or they will be beaten by their own mistakes in this game.

First of all, I love this matchup. Two schools in close proximity to each other of similar size. I'd love to see this series stick around. That being said, I'm going with the Gallians to pick up another win in OVC land.

This one could be interesting if the Blue Devil defense can keep the scoring down. In the end I think the Fairland offense will out score the Blue Devils and come away with a win something like 35-21

Fairland is struggling right now but have a bunch of athletes. I know not having Campbell at RB is crucial. Heard he will be out a while and their stud muffin transfers from Cabell Midland were ruled ineligible too. I had picked them earlier to give Coal Grove a game but now they won't even be in the running for the OVC. Galia is also trying to find their way. I say it's a toss up!

Gallia's defense will have a much larger task slowing Fairland's offense down than they did against Chesapeake. This is also the Dragon's home opener, so they will definitely be fired up to play at Mayo in front of their home crowd after two disappointing weeks on the road.

Dragons - 56
Blue Devils - 42

GAHS beat Fairland 6338 last year. Blue Devils had 24 first downs, Fairland 18. Gallipolis led 22-18, 42-38 after 3 periods before blanking the Dragons 21-0 in the final period.

Total yards favored GAHS 523-332. The Blue Devils ran 69 plays to Fairland's 53. GAHS completed 20 of 25 passes for 266 yards. FHS completed 14 of 22 passes for 184 yards.

Worthless stats Jottings!! Neither team even closely resembles what they were last year! This is a really interesting matchup I think if the Blue Devils can hold Fairland under 24 they can win! If they allow Fairland to get the ball back and get in a track meet it will be tough. Fairland lost several good athletes defense suffered. I think GA must control the clock and keep the O of Fairland on the sidelines.
Something to remember Chesapeake is horrible so don't hang your hat on that win! They may not win a game!

GA 21
Fairland 20

This game will be won or lost by the gallia academy defense. The offense will put up enough points to win but can gallias defense be able to slow down. fairlands offense. They need stop the run with their front 7. Which is something we are not great at are safeties are our leading tacklers if they get sucked in t support the run fairland will throw go routes down the sidelines all night. and those 7 must maintain there lanes and responsibilities. In the passing game fairland is really a double edge sword. most drops are 3 step drops or less. they run several different screens that blue devils will have to contain without over committing. because they will fake the screens and run go's and fades or do trips to one side with a two man screen play and one man on go route. if gallia can have some success against screens when it comes to down field throws fairland quarterback seems to throw to spots instead of receiver so may be able to create a few turnovers

On offense gallia must run between the tackles if they run wide fairland excellent at stretching out the play. Defense over pursues though so those same cut back runs that worked against chesapeake will be available here. it will also be important for quarterback and running backs to carry out their fakes. If they do this several things will open up. i think fullbacks will have a big night. Defensive back 4 looks young for dragons. that is where it looks like most tackling mistakes made. if you get by the front 7 you have an opportunity for big gain.

Gallia must win special teams play. Fairland has a definite edge in speed and athleticism in this game. But it is not deep advantage or at all positions. Fairland will break some big plays. if you can slow them down they are not great as sustaining drives. for gallia i think the magic total is 35 points. if they can score that many they can win. they need to avoid a shoot out though in a shoot out they lose. this may sound strange but i think if gallia gets to 50 they lose. if we are giving fairland that many snaps they will have more big plays then we can stop.

ideally i think gallia could win 21-14 but they don't seem to want to play that kind of game and milk the clock so since we are going to play semi fast. i will call it gallia 35-32.

Read a post about the GAHS victory Bell on Facebook. Kind of interesting where it came from.

There are people who still doubt that one class of seniors can make or break a ball team, and yet the majority of our seniors last season played defense. You can see the issues. Lots of young guys in key spots.

Congrats, Gallia. Do us a favor and win the SEOAL.
