Not alot of people thought they would beat NW anyway, so with that said, we like the doubters! don't hardly think halftime will decide...Crab's brother wrote:So Oak Hill gets blown out by one of the premier programs south of Columbus and Rock Hill needs a late fumble recovery to beat SOC doormat Northwest and all of a sudden people are thinking Rock Hill is going to win this game?

Oaks big!
Week 3: Oak Hill (1-1) @ Rock Hill (1-1)

Rock Hill fans have been few and far between on this site for years. I personally like their presence.
Also, referring to Wheelersburg as one of the "premier teams south of Columbus" is a little bit loaded/broad, considering the current situations of some of the traditionally good programs in SE Ohio (Ironton, Nelsonville-York, etc). Oak Hill was blown out by a team that is usually in the playoffs, but little more. The Oaks rack up cheap wins in a conference of microscopic schools/traditionally awful football programs. The teams they had a few years back will not be duplicated.
Do I think Oak Hill will win this game? Almost certainly. But I wouldn't be cavalier about such a prediction.

Fuzz, if you are going to quote me, then use the correct terms. I called wheelersburg one of the premier programs south of Columbus. I never said anything about the status of the 2014 Pirates. Unfortunately for this area, playing in the second and third rounds of the playoffs constitutes premier these days. If you don't agree with that, then this is a not something to discuss.
That said, knowing what I know about the Redmen's win over northwest, I will stand by my prediction.
Re: Week 3: Oak Hill (1-1) @ Rock Hill (1-1)
Northwest fumbling didn't cause Rock Hill to intercept a thrown ball, and run a 96 yard touchdown with it to win the game. Everyone here is degrading Rock Hill saying "Eh, anyone could have done that." and then later are for some reason surprised when they actually put up a fight in a game.
Re: Week 3: Oak Hill (1-1) @ Rock Hill (1-1)
Northwest did not throw an interception to end the game, they fumbled the snap on the 4 yard line. The play after the turnover Rock Hill scored on a 96 yard run. Northwest was down 7-12 with less than 1:30 left on the clock when they fumbled. Rock Hill is very solid on offensively rushing for almost 400 yards. I think that this will be a good game if Rock Hill keeps their players healthy.

Re: Week 3: Oak Hill (1-1) @ Rock Hill (1-1)
When you lose for 10 years in a row and the program is in shambles, then you beat Northwest, what are the fans expecting? I wish Rock Hill would win this game. I think that Oaks will win. Doing the same over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity!SportFan2013 wrote:I believe Rock Hill will win this game.
Hard to say, being one myself, but the Redmen fans are bipolar, honestly. If Rock Hill loses a game, at the next game there may be 1,000 RH fans. If Rock Hill wins a game, at the next game there will 6,000 RH fans. Then when they lose, they all disappear again. The kids, whether they play football or not, the coaches, RH staff, and even parents know that if they don't keep things rolling along for each game, they will be hurting in the support and fans department. Rock Hill will have to keep playing hard because of that, and I think that will make the game closer than you think.
Often times the will to win is a lot better at determining the results of a game than the skill of the team. And after the show of support for RH against Northwest, I can't see the RH team or fans accepting anything less than a win this week.

Buy a map of the Greater Cincinnati area and throw a dart at it and you'll probably hit a premier team.BurgGrad_06 wrote:Who would u consider to be a premier team south of Columbus?fuzzhead wrote:Crab's brother wrote:So Oak Hill gets blown out by one of the premier programs south of Columbus and Rock Hill needs a late fumble recovery to beat SOC doormat Northwest and all of a sudden people are thinking Rock Hill is going to win this game?

But assuming that Crab's statement was unintentionally broad and he merely meant our particular quadrant of the state, I would say - regardless of size - Athens has been the dominant program over the last few years. Valley would be a close second. What Trimble accomplished last year and seems poised again to do this year is certainly worthy of mention, too. I don't particularly care about traditions that were made 10, 20, 30, or even 40 years ago. Harbin points don't carry over into subsequent seasons.
The whole point I was trying to make is that Wheelersburg is a good measuring stick to see where a team is. If you get blown out by a team that is almost always in the playoffs, it exposes you. Oak Hill was exposed. We don't really know how good they are. They're obviously somewhere between Chesapeake and Wheelersburg. My guess is that that's more than good enough to beat Rock Hill, but I'm not going to criticize or belittle Rock Hill fans for showing support.
Re: Week 3: Oak Hill (1-1) @ Rock Hill (1-1)
Agree Crab's brother about Wheelersburg. I am not originally from this area. However, while coaching in the Columbus area for 12 years, Wheelersburg and Ironton were the programs we knew about from a consistent performer in the regular season and playoffs. Maybe our buddy Fuzz is still scratching his head over the Oaks (winning the conference with traditionally awful football programs) taking the Hornets to the woodshed two years in a row.
Re: Week 3: Oak Hill (1-1) @ Rock Hill (1-1)
Just because a team has had 3 maybe 4 good seasons doesn't make them a premier program. Athens and valley meet this criteria. No disrespect to these programs because I think they are on the right track to build a great tradition!

Great to know that you were a coach and that you heard of Wheelersburg and Ironton. Their tradition speaks for itself. Do you actually have an argument or are you content with inserting a barb that you apparently think will somehow hurt my feelings?
BurgGrad, I don't know what you think we're arguing about but keep on beating a dead horse. As I said, Wheelersburg is usually in the playoffs (and sometimes they hang around a while). WHAT'S YOUR ARGUMENT?
Re: Week 3: Oak Hill (1-1) @ Rock Hill (1-1)
Will any of the home games in Lawrence Co. be effected by the school lockdowns? WSAZ says that all schools in the county are on lockdown due to a firearm threat at Ironton schools.
Re: Week 3: Oak Hill (1-1) @ Rock Hill (1-1)
Rock Hill's game is still on currently, despite the lock down. Don't know about the other schools though. Security will be beefed up at all of the schools.
