Re: (poll) ATHENS (1-0) vs ZANESVILLE (1-0)
Athens defense looked great Friday - but it's more about scheme and what the Athens offense will probably do Friday that drew me to that conclusion. Florida State has a great defense, but when they get entrenched in a high scoring game, even they give up a lot of points. Zanesville is a good team, especially offensively with their 4-wide-no huddle attack. If Athens scores quickly, or if Athens scores a lot, the Blue Devils will undoubtedly get a high number of snaps and plays to run. I don't care how good your defense is, when you give a high scoring team already that many touches it will be tough to hold down. Welcome to today's football.

Pioneers,I thought Zanesville was the Blue Devils?93Bulldog wrote:Athens defense looked great Friday - but it's more about scheme and what the Athens offense will probably do Friday that drew me to that conclusion. I'm just glad you noticed. I'm about to go make radio commercials that will run all week promoting the game - and I had Pioneers typed in!Eaglepapaw wrote:93Bulldog wrote:lol ... Pioneers ... I'm thinking baseball ... It's still August Eaglepapaw - got the small ball still lingering.

Wish I could see this game.
Athens should have the upper hand - their offense is experienced and loaded for bear. Zanesville has athletes everywhere, but with the newcomers all over I think it will take them a few weeks to hit full stride.
Not sure this game will get to the "running clock" arena. But think Athens will just have too much firepower.
Special teams could make a difference if Zanesville is going to pull off an upset. They're always good in the return game.

Burrows will be the difference. He is really on another level right now. He is doing a great job on pre-snap reads and is really in complete control. zanesville will be a good test for them but Athens by several scores.

Everyone keeps saying "Zanesville lost this, Zanesville lost that."
I remember they said the same thing about Athens after it's 10-0 season in 2011. "No more Sharp, no more Rider, they won't be nearly as good."
Athens went 9-1 and made it all the way to the final 8 in the state!
I learned a little bit of a lesson after that - and it keeps me cautions of those sorts of comments. Especially when they surround a big school, good program like Zanesville.

Always helps to have someone like Burrow ready to take over the reigns. If I remember correctly he was not even supposed to be the QB that year because the returning QB had moved off? Interesting how that turned out.

93 putting the game week "spin" on their trip to Zanesville trying to lower expectations a bit and turn down the hype volume lol on what is an explosive Athens team.93Bulldog wrote:Everyone keeps saying "Zanesville lost this, Zanesville lost that."

Trying to do his part lol on keeping them in a one week at a time approach :12223
Zanesville lost to much after their extraordinary run last year losing in the final seconds in a regional final match-up as I recall.
May not be a running clock this week as Zanesville athletes keep them engaged, but at end of day I think this is a 20 point win...

Not trying to do anything DP. I would be making no such comments if Athens were playing Warren. I sat in front of the T.V. all afternoon and watched the Zanesville replay instead of the Buckeyes game - and they impressed me.
I know it's possible for Athens to go out and play a great game - and possibly win by 20+ ... But it's also possible for Zanesville, who will be playing their home opener with their coach for the first time this year, to also play well and make it a great game.

Ok 93, if you say so...the home opener and first appearance of their coach after his game suspension are decent talking points, you swayed me on your sincerity...kinda lol
Way to toss SEOAL Warren under the bus though...was that a Freudian slip?

He had a big target already. Either he was a QB with an offer from Ohio State, amongst other major programs - or he was a QB who just verbally committed to Ohio State, relieving the pressure of having to choose a college.buckeye_master wrote:Burrows put a BIG TARGET on his back comming out with the OSU thing!!! Six in one hand, half-dozen in the other.

Remember they were playing Newark who has a 4-36 record over the last 4 years93Bulldog wrote:Not trying to do anything DP. I would be making no such comments if Athens were playing Warren. when I said there an ok team that was being kind. And it’s not because they play a super tough schedule.
Z ran the ball 43 times passed 18 there a reason. They used 2 QBs and neither were impressive
3 ints. Missed handoff . Newark had 5 turnovers goofy fake punt. And ints because there QB is not
To good. Z can have 4 wide outs but if you can’t get the ball to them ?
Athens D hasn’t been tested much yet will see how they are against the run. That is why I say I don’t
See some 50 pt. 50 pt. shoot out .will see Friday. I watched the game and yes there were something’s
That were impressive but again it was Newark.

This is not the Zanesville of the past couple years. They will be a 500 team this year. They are likely one of the best 2 or 3 teams Athens will play during the regular season. I am guessing that Athens will score on all but a couple drives and Zville might score 2 or 3 times.

Re: (poll) ATHENS (1-0) vs ZANESVILLE (1-0)
I would say Zanesville has a pretty tough schedule: Athens, Sheridan, Dover, and Tri-Valley should all be playing in week 11 (all from the same region). Yes the other 6 teams are not great teams, but most schools in Ohio are not playing 4 playoff teams on their schedule.Football fan wrote:Remember they were playing Newark who has a 4-36 record over the last 4 years93Bulldog wrote:Not trying to do anything DP.
