NCatholic must have some good underclassmen.

Interesting.
What are they saying now? I hope this thought didn't affect their preparation.

There defense was like a one man show in this one and many of those younger guys along with the seniors, if memory serves me correctly did not have much varsity experience.

Really you have one coach on the staff that coached last year that only showed up to half the games. Then you have a Coach at LU quit 36 days before practice starts and states that he does not have the fire to coach anymore. But he moves to PW to coach and his former team will play West the 3rd game this year. I would almost have to say he set his former team up to loose.

9-22 with three picks unofficially.

He was under pressure all night long and for most of the night his rec were covered tightly, leaving little room for completed passes when he did get the ball off cleanly.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like NC Coaches had a great game plan against West.

Defense was AWESOME last night. They looked in mid season form.

NC was as expected. They are not as good as last year but they are still a very good team. They have good players and they are extremely well coached.

The game started bad as the buses evidently got lost. Kickoff was supposed to be at 7 and the boys didn't get to the field until around 6:30. They did back off kickoff until 7:15, but there was no fieldhouse and they were still getting taped close to 7. Warmups were messed up and any pregame rhythm had to be thrown off. Infact NC was warmed up and done by the time West got started. I don't know how much it effected play, but they were definately "flat" to start the game. That's when NC realled off the big quarterback run on the 1st play and scored their only touchdown.

West got behind and never could get momentum. West played excellent defense after the first series but could never get the offense rolling. Alot of that credit has to go to NC. They play excellent defense.

West needs to learn how to win these games. But playing the caliber of teams West has with Johnson Central and Newark Catholic has to make you better. It doesn't get any easier the next two weeks.

Not showing up at the complex until 6:20 definitely played a factor, I don't remember seeing West do any team offense pregame, and only a few defensive plays, there were no restrooms on the visitor side so it took players what seamed like another ten minutes just to use the bathroom. It also looked like west tried to fill in a few of the injured players positions on defense that first series, but quickly found out these fill-ins were not going to get the job done and subbed in two or three offensive starters after the first defensive series. Tons of guys playing two ways for both teams last night, and both teams seamed to be very well conditioned, no cramping or injuries. It was a good game.

I have to as about the jump ball toward the end of the game. Doesn't the tie go to the receiver? Because it looked like both had their hands on the football when they came down and the NC player gathered sole possession after they wrestled on the ground.

I thought swords had made the catch and the db took it from him while on the ground. I think it should of been 1st and goal for West at the 2 or 3. It is what it is we got no breaks in the game. Will be alright the defense will keep us in ballgames just need the offense to start clicking.

Sounds like a great effort from the young men from West, Newark Catholic is always a very good defensive team, and West defense stood with them toe to toe. Its Portsmouth-West week, should be a fun game

The d back had position and caught the ball then the reciever tried to wrestle it away.

I was very disappointed in the West offense. 9/21 for 60 yards and 3 picks is not going to cut it. West struggled in the passing game last year too, way too many picks were thrown. You can't have that many turnovers and expect to win ball games. The defense looked ok, I believe they will have a solid D as the year progresses. The offense is what I am curious to see how it develops. NC had a pretty good D but 60 yards passing and 89 yards rushing is just awful. Hopefully coach Johnson can figure out a way to get the offense moving because West is going to have to put points on the board to keep up with teams like Portsmouth and Burg. He's going to have to figure out a way to get better production out of Irwin and he's going to have to limit the picks. Overall I am excited to see the season unfold for the Siders and I'm hoping for a great year of football for these boys! They have been through a lot with the coaching changes and the way it played out with the entire staff pretty much being wiped out, some of those coaches last year have been there for those kids entire football career. It was very sad to see some of them go with the new staff coming in. With that said good luck to West, I'll be there cheering you on every Friday night!

Two of those picks were late in the 4th quarter so that didnt concern me as much as the silly holding penalties that killed serveral drives. The rushing yards were disappointing but that goes back to the penalties.

NC is better than people are giving them credit for. West played bad and lost by 7 on the road. West will be fine.
