"Although the Athens' defense struggled last week, they were able to come up with big, crucial plays when necessary."...<< That is from my original post. That's 4 big plays which I included in my "They were able to come up with big, crucial plays when necessary." I wasn't discrediting the defense. I was just stating their weak points. However, I did acknowledge the fact that they came up with big plays when needed. And I wouldn't say they answered "many doubts". Minus Joe Burrow from the offense, the game would have been ALOT different in favor of Tri-Valley.diamondD1 wrote:Four of the biggest defensive plays last week were knocked down passes, 3 by Trae Williams and one by Joey Burrow. Trae did get beat on the first passing TD by Tri-Valley, but no more after that.Bulldog54 wrote:If Athens is able to contain the pass (which they are lacking and have been lacking practically all year) and are able to keep Marion Franklin running game inside, they have a good chance at winning this game.
The Athens defense deserves some credit. They stepped up big when needed and answered many doubts.

For all my ATHENS Friends that got bottled up in the exit of Logan Stadium. I am going to open my yard for PARKING this week. I am located just accross from the main doors of the School and have easy in and easy out path. Yes, there is a fee, I will have a sign up and you can either pull in if you wish, or you can go to the school lot. Either way, have a great night at the game. GO BULLDOGS!!!

54 please be aware the moment you speak the truth there are those posters who want to attack you. Saying Athens played good defense last week is saying that $3.00 a gallon gas is cheap. Only in a relative sense. In Athens case they won the game. In fact due to big plays the defense actually put points on the board. That is a good thing. The bad thing is that all of TV points were scored on the Athens defense.
I am a believer in Burrow and company. If any team can win this region on offense alone it is the Dawgs. However as a fan and coach I would be worried about the defense on every play.

I'm a Alumni and bulldog fan. I played on the 2011 team that went undefeated. I don't think it's just on this site where people don't like the truth...it's in general lol. I hope the best for the team. I want a state championship this year! Just as a side note, I think the 2011 team would beat the 2013 team

Bulldog54.. calpreps has 2013 Athens over 2011 by 11. They also had Athens by 3 over TV last week

Lol. I was just messing around. I think it would be a good game, but I would have to say the 2011 team would win ;)Dundas wrote:Bulldog54.. calpreps has 2013 Athens over 2011 by 11. They also had Athens by 3 over TV last week

The bullpuppies also have injury problems on the offensive line! Loss 2 starter Friday night!toldya wrote:54 please be aware the moment you speak the truth there are those posters who want to attack you. Im surprised at Athens lack of depth. They have a ton of kids on the sidelines but they don't play many people. Athens offensive line has been exposed in the playoffs and their defensive line doesn't seem to ever get any penetration. Burrow, Leurhman, and Williams can only take you so far. I've been routing for Athens in the playoffs, but this game has me worrying that the lack of defense is going to catch up to them. Plus, Burrow can't keep taking hits like he did last week against Tri Valley.

Athens has 43 kids on their roster, a small number for a D3 school.
Athens plays only 3 kids both ways, a small number for a D3 school.
I would say they have amazing depth for a D3 school with that size of a roster. I mean that's 20 starters (including a kicker) out of 43 kids on the roster.
If Athens has a lack of depth, its from a lack of kids on the roster than from a lack of them playing. I would guess most schools in SE Ohio would kill to play 10 kids on their offense/defensive lines without any of them playing both ways (except for injury).

Too bad I have a prior commitment this Friday, I wouldn't mind joining all y'all. I could have brought some of Zunardo's Famous Chili. :122245ny92 wrote:MFHS04 I have no doubt this will be a great game. Some of us Hammy boys may crash yor tailgate. What a grillin?
I don't think Marion Franklin has faced a QB quite like Burrow - they will not be able to rattle him, no matter how intense the pocket gets. Most relaxed QB I've ever seen. The best they can hope for is knock him off stride on his throws, or shut down his receivers and force him to run.
I'll be pulling for the Red Devils (South End cousins!), with a healthy respect for the Bulldogs, having watched them outlast Springfield Shawnee last year.

Key for Athens: Score on every opportunity. If they get stopped on 3 and outs. Lights out for the DAWGS. However on the flip side, No-One has really had the answer to the DAWGS offense all year. Looking for a great game, here. What radio station will carry this game?

Both linemen are fine for Athens. Marion's rb still just a decoy after that leg injury?
