Week 10--Gallipolis (5-4) at Jackson (5-4)
Re: Week 10--Gallipolis (5-4) at Jackson (5-4)
doubleplay643,
I completely agree. Sorry if it sounded like I was disagreeing with you.
Jarrell can definitely throw the ball, and we have certainly been susceptible to the pass. That fact makes him VERY dangerous as a runner too. It's so hard to account for a QB that can make things happen once a play breaks down. He killed us last year when avoiding blitzes or pressure from our D-Line. On the game-winning TD, he avoided a blitz off the edge on a 3rd and long, and about 60 yards later, they were up 30-27. Just so hard to defend a dynamic player that can hurt you in a multitude of ways.
We need to control the line of scrimmage, have long, time-consuming drives that end in touchdowns, and take care of the football. The Blue Devils have been pretty tough on offense, and suspect on defense. We definitely want to make sure their offense spends a lot of time on the sidelines and force them to play defense against a physical and methodical offensive attack.

Gallia by a touchdown. Jackson is not good at coverage. They just try and get pressure. If a go throwing team can can pick up their backer pressure, you can be successful throwing the ball on them.

With Griffiths out strong rumblings about a wrinkle in the backfield...could be interesting to watch how this plays out. Defensively we need line penetration, outside LB contain and an outstanding game from Parana, Conley, Fitch, and Jones in the secondary.
Senior Night, lot of energy, lot of attitude, looking for Jackson to play extremely physical game.
Throw out the records for real, no clichés, these teams will not like each other Friday night.
Oh, and come on Warren, shock Logan please lol.

Need Crabtree to hold on to the ball and have a big night. Potter doing a great job blocking. If you can't block then you can't run the ball.

Don't disagree I44, the wrinkle to which I was referring wasn't that (although I think Potter is a possibility) it was seeing some formations with 2 of the 3 fastest (and smallest and toughest) kids on the team in tandem, a senior and a frosh in the backfield.Ironmen44 wrote:Need Crabtree to hold on to the ball and have a big night. But I imagine you will see a steady diet and dose of Ironmen football with Crabtree and Sexton pounding the center of the line to establish things from the opening series till the end.
Whoever it is carrying the ball, good lord just hold onto it man. Have to find a way or combination to win Friday without #2 and #45, uphill climb but not impossible.
Come on Red, come on seniors, lets go out with a "W".

Does Jackson even have enough healthy bodies to play this game?

Play...yes.Buckeye-4-Life wrote:Does Jackson even have enough healthy bodies to play this game?
Win...well, that is another story. it will take an outstanding effort by a lot of players who have to execute their role on every play. Some names of some kids we haven't heard a lot about need to step up and have a game. I have a lot confidence in this group of freshmen through seniors to figure out the details and "next man up" to fill some big holes in the skill spots.

Go Red, beat the Blue Devils.... On a side note congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade teams on their undefeated year and to the eighth grade for not having any points scored on them this year. Ironmen program is going to be strong again.

Re: Week 10--Gallipolis (5-4) at Jackson (5-4)
Unfortunately, due to the impending severe weather this evening (Thursday 10-31) that includes rain and high winds, the pep rally, bonfire and car bash for the Jackson football team at the Stockmesier Plaza parking lot/facility is cancelled.
I was texted that information a few minutes ago.

Re: Week 10--Gallipolis (5-4) at Jackson (5-4)
Disappointing that the weather affected the pep rally. Should have a pretty good night for football tomorrow though.
Very glad to hear that Jackson's 7th and 8th grade teams went undefeated. Very impressive that the 8th grade didn't surrender a single a point the entire season. That doesn't happen every often at any level. With the talent in grades 11 through 7 right now, the future appears to be very bright for Ironmen football.
As for tomorrow night, I'm looking forward to seeing the Ironmen in ALL RED! Hopefully the community comes out, packs Alumni Stadium, and makes a great atmosphere for this huge rivalry game. No matter what the circumstances, this game means everything to a lot of people. Let's end it with a win.
GO BIG RED!!

Weather held off for trick or treat in Jackson....not sure of what time the happening were going to be but just a slight occasional mist and far less winds than anticipated.
Just win tomorrow.
Just win tomorrow.

Seems like the past few years the younger kids have excellent records at football. Just reading the newspaper, looks like Jackson Red won their league SuperBowl, and Jackson White won the Vinton County tournament. However, when these young kids come up to varsity level, their playing record in the younger years is just a memory. I believe this years junior class had an excellent record from pee-wee on up until the varsity level. This sure does make a person question the varisty level coaching.

Comparing scores through common foes doesn't really mean anything, but it's fun
to do it anyway.
In the Warren Local matchup, JHS is favored by at least 25 points. The Ironmen are favored by two points through the Portsmouth game. Jackson is favored by seven in the Logan mixup. GAHS is favored by six in the Athens game.

Firecracker, look how young the ironmen are. That's one reason for the 500 record right now. And I don't think the pee wee or jr high play the same caliber of opponents as the high school. You can't start comparing these classes until they all get through the program. I would think that next year you will see the varsity turn the corner with this young talent being a year older. Now after 3-4 years go by and the varsity record isn't any better then I think you could start with that argument.

Pretty good observation Buckeye. PeeWee wins against Huntington, Adena, Southeastern, Zane Trace and Vinton County are not comparable to Varsity games against the West Jeff's, Athens' and Wheelersburg's of the world. But by the same taken the group coming through is Jackson's best chance at a great "cycle" for the next 3-4 years for sure and if we don't make something out of it then Firecrackers' argument turns out to be valid and maybe something to consider.Buckeye-4-Life wrote:I don't think the pee wee or jr high play the same caliber of opponents as the high school. At the end of the day we had a lot of 15 & 16 year olds (with some 14's and 17's sprinkled in) playing against pretty experienced West Jefferson and Wheelersburg teams.
Ironmen should catch up on the experience next year and still will be considered a "young" team with a good deal of sophomores and juniors filling in at key spots.

Re: Week 10--Gallipolis (5-4) at Jackson (5-4)
These kids winning in their early years in football, and continue having a winning record for 5-7 years and hit the high school level and go 6-4 at best says something. Regardless whom these young kids play in the younger years, they are just being introduced to the game. If Jackson wants to excel in high school football, that got to do what Athens, Wheelersburg and most other successful programs have done, learn to play fast offense and pass the ball. Need to get away from this milking the clock. Penalities is another thing that hurts the team.
