Probably the last time these two schools play for long, long time since River is leaving the PVC after this season. IMHO it was a huge mistake to ever join the conference because of the travel and alienating the fans. River went strictly with Sapp last week on the ground game and it resulted in 40 points. Pilots in a shootout.

Why does it alienate the fans? Who will River play now.... Paden City? Valley? Will River be following the Beallsville model?

I think River fans want to see games with Tyler Consolidated again, Beallsville perhaps, Shadyside would be interesting since many standouts on the Tigers roster are from Powhatan.
It's better to play someone closer to home. With dwindling enrollment playing Valley, Paden City, and St. John Central isn't that far-fetched.

Haha what a joke..River is D6 in football and not the smallest team in the PVC. Why would you go to the Beallsville league? River has competed well and I think it's a huge mistake for them. If they stay D6 they won't get enough points to make playoffs.

I'll take Trail. River is a 1/2 step above Shenandoah.

Battle of two teams who have had disappointing seasons. I think Trail takes this one. 27-20

River's 2004 schedule... the year before they joined the PVC:

8/27 A Frontier (9-1) [6:23] L 21-53
9/3 H Magnolia (WV) (4-5) [4:0] W 29-17
9/10 A Monroe Central (7-3) [5:19] L 8-35
9/20 A Tyler Consolidated (WV) (3-7) [5:0] L 0-16
9/24 H Barnesville (7-3) [5:19] L 8-22
10/1 H St John Central (2-8) [6:23] L 21-33
10/8 H Bridgeport (1-8) [6:23] W 37-21
10/15 A Harrison Central (4-6) [4:15] L 6-19
10/22 H Oak Glen (WV) (0-9) [4:0] W 35-15
10/29 A Shadyside (6-4) [6:23] L 6-34

I can't fault that schedule. I agree River doesn't need the PVC. The PVC will survive without River. It's not like River dominated the league.

I would be fine with a 6 team PVC but if they did want to replace River who would it be?

Barnesville would be perfect. I have a feeling Trail is leaving to soon.

Frontier could leave with River and join Shadyside, Bellaire, Bridgeport, and maybe Beallsville or Barnesville

That won't happen either, EDSpy, just a matter of economics. Don't think River will join that RVC league. It's be even more travel.
And Frontier won't be in any league with Bellaire, Shadyside and Barnesville.

River is one of the smallest D6 schools in the state (if not the smallest). I believe they would be D7 next year if the count was taken yearly & more than likely will be in 2 years.

According to the numbers at the beginning if the year, only Frontier and Caldwell were smaller than River. Very possible they drop to D7 in the near future.

Rivers leaving the pvc is strictly travel and money .When you play Buckeye Trail, Caldwell and Fort Frye at home the crowds are not very big. Throw in Rosecrans and last year Newcomerstown and it is easy to why they have issues . It is not any better in the winter. A cold January Tuesday night does not cry for a large Basketball crowd .The days of Dick Potts teams are long gone , the girls program used to play John Marshall ,Bellaire , Ferry and Meadowbrook . Area teams will bring area people and local teams will bring back some of the old excitement to football and Basketball. The PVC was good for competition but competition does not pay the bills . All will work out.

River will probably still play 4 PVC teams next year. River is not dropping Fort as of now.

It'd be nice to see Tyler Consolidated back on the football and hoops schedule. Shadyside, Beallsville, St. John's Central are possibilities in football I'd think. River will be so small in a few years it'd be an D8 if there was such a thing.

I can see a football schedule with:
Tyler Consolidated
Magnolia
Valley
Paden City
Beallsville
Bridgeport
St. John
Shadyside
Monroe Central
Barnesville

because in a few years River will be one of the smallest

That probably won't be far off.
