Steely Dan, I gotcha.

I am not going to predict a score for this game, but Athens has proven to be one of the best, if not the best, in the Southeastern District. With their tournament success last year, Burrow's maturity, and coaches' ability to be properly prepared for each week's opponent, I will NOT be surprised to see Athens winning the region and into the state's semi-finals. It will not matter competitiveness or the perceived lack there of, in their next four opponents. However, I can tell you, it may seem that Alexander and Nelsonville-York may be down, Vinton County and Meigs are much improved. Now, I am NOT predicting pending upsets, but I believe that all four teams will give Athens a good look. And besides Vinton County and Meigs hit really hard. :122246

As far as Alexander, the McGrath is a very good football player and he can make things happen with his feet. Vinton County made a ton of mistakes against Alexander, especially on defense, and it gave a player like McGrath another down, which gave him another chance to score. And an Arno led team can always score.

No one cared when they couldn't beat there own jr high team.
Athens being as good as they are can male the TVC better because it forces programs to reach even higher.

This is just one of the best Athens teams ever. Doesn't matter if tvc, seoal, mvl, ecol, soc, or ovc, those leagues would say the same thing

I agree that this Athens team is pretty darn good but, if they are LUCKY enough to make it back to the regional finals it will be the same results but from a different team.

Just getting to the regional final from this area is rare, especially in D3!

I don't care what the result is ... it beats getting ready for basketball season like most schools are doing in weeks 11, 12 and 13.

I had someone ask me if I thought Arno was on the hot seat? I know he has rubbed some people the wrong way at Alex. Something's are over looked when your team is winning. But Will he be gone if the Spartans finish 1-9 ?

I doubt it

2012 4-6
2011 7-3
2010 8-3
2009 8-3

Davey Boston has a better chance of getting fired lol

He should be on the hot seat. Even with those winning records over the past few seasons they haven't played anyone. The non league schedule that Arno always has is bad. The teams he faces that are non league average about 2-3 wins combined each year

I have to agree with my buddy from Youngstown! The bullpuppies will not play a good football team until week 12 then they will be trouble because of there weak schedule! Especially if they play a team similar in style to them!

Rubbing people the wrong way is an understatement. All of the staff that was involved during those 2 playoff years have left the program directly because of disagreements with Arno. Anyone knows that change in staff leads to inconsistency in the program.

2012 4-6
2011 7-3
2010 8-3
2009 8-3

Good point on Arnos records those years above, out of those 27 wins in those 4 years, 6 I say 6, were against teams with winning records at the end of the season and most of them were TVC hocking teams going 6-4.

93,
Yes Athens was 3-2 a few years ago but you cannot ignore that the football team is going to go undefeated again in league play for the 2nd strait year, and next year. Volleyball will not lose a game in the league this year. Girls basketball has a 20 game league winning streak. Cross country and track are not even close to being challenged in league play since they came into TVC play. Will boys basketball lose a regular season game this year? I guess it is just great timing that talent came once they changed leagues, not because of playing inferior talent in smaller schools with a winning record.

The wins are coming against everyone, not just TVC teams or smaller schools. People make a big deal out of being in the TVC-Ohio ... But the TVC-Ohio is a very small league with only 6 teams - Athens till has to play 5 other non-league games in football (50%) ... and plays more non league games in basketball than league (12-out-of-22).

This winter they will play a district tournament team from last year in Logan Elm (D2) ... three games in Florida vs top notch competition ... they are playing Circleville (D2) ... they are playing defending state runner-up Akron St. Vincent St. Mary (D2) ... they have another big game vs Valley (D3) ... they have to travel to Warren (D2), a final four team from a year ago ... Athens is going to Ironton to play the Tigers ... taking on Propel School from Pittsburg ... and they still have two games versus Vinton County (D2) ... and two games vs Meigs (D2)

That "playing inferior talent in smaller schools with a wining a record" won't fly here in about a month or two when basketball season kicks in ... so enjoy posting it now ...

Lol at playing inferior teams, why they are good. No Athens has one of the best sophomore and junior classes ever in SEO. Athens also could have the first mr football from SEO since the kid from zville won it back in the day. U can put all the best Alex athletes in alex's history on one team and Athens will still blew Alexander out

I don't know about that. You go start putting all the best linemen from a schools history on one team - I don't care what school/team it is - odds are they would be pretty darn good.

Idk, best Alex team in school history lost to Athens by 30 in 09 season but I'm being sarcastic. You're an idiot if u dont think Athens is good. Their schedule makes them good? Trained the seoal, ovc, and Licking Valley league

When did I ever say they weren't good? It is how they became good is the issue!

For years they were beat on, and beat on in the SEOAL, you cannot disagree with that.

Move leagues, begin to pick up a few more wins against 'inferior' opponents, numbers grow, support grows. The program/facilities looks more attractive to MOVE INS.

Ask schools like River Valley and Alexander how hard it is to get a program going after being beat down so many years, there are too many obstacles. It was the success of the switch that allowed them to be where they are today!

They are good, but SEO good.

93, you fail to see the effect of size of schools in other sports, you only think in football and boys basketball when they make up only a fraction of the sports that Athens competes against these TVC schools. Look up results of cc meets or track meets, or wrestling and see how it is fair. To me it is not bad they play in the TVC basketball and football, it is IMPOSSIBLE for other schools to compete with Athens in most sports in the TVC.
