catsandbucks-
Athens is not the best ever. This Junior class may be the best group of collected athletes to be lucky enough to be the same age ever at Athens.
Athens is enjoying a run at the school that has never been seen before, and some of the other schools in the League happen to be rebuilding.
What Ucantseeme is failing to see or not wanting to see is that this just happens to be a really good class, with some really good programs right now for Athens sports.
Vinton County is the biggest school in the Ohio so they sure do have the numbers to compete.
Meigs isn't too far down that line.
Nelsonville-York is a football school...
The League is in fine shape...

Questionmark your summary of the game was spot on. They really needed to eat clock with screen pass and outside runs.
Gotta keep Burrow and the boys off the field to have a shot.

?, what you are failing to admit is that Athens is in a league that doesn't fit...period.......
Not just talking football,,,,, just how many league titles has Athens amassed since coming into the TVC ?????
I believe it is around 40 plus.... now being a large city school district in a smaller school and rural school league it just doesn't fit..........
The league either needs to bring in some larger schools and split into 3 divisions or Athens needs to find a league more their size that also has swimming, tennis, etc.
Re: Athens 83 Alexander 14
I believe that Athens has 41 league titles since 2008.
Seems to be a little lopsided, for one team in a league, if all sports are considered.
I don't believe that would reflect just one exceptional class would it???
Big Fish Little Pond ......theory proven !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree the league needs to expand or cut em loose.....

Re: Athens 83 Alexander 14
I think it's unfair to compare Athens (A city school where most students live within ten minutes to the high school) to Vinton County where some students drive 45 minutes to school. It's much harder for a county school to compete because their kids can't drive back and forth to practice each night, especially when they have work to be done on the farm. Athens is without a doubt the favorite in almost every sport and should be expected to win the league title each year, but it makes it that much sweeter when a smaller school and knock them off. I'm not a huge fan of having Athens in the TVC-Ohio, but there's not really much we can do other than try to prepare ourselves as best as possible to beat them.

No Athens should stay in the tvc ohio and Vinton county should drop to the tvc hocking because I KNOW theres teams in the hocking that would give them a run for their money EVERY YEAR!!!! Tomkitties,Waham,Southern

Athens last year had one team in the State Tournament in Cross Country, one team in Regional Finals in Football, and Two District Basketball titles, no other school in SE Ohio had that kind of success and that has NO bearing on what league they play in. Few schools have ever been so balanced, Burg is the only one I can think of that has had this type of success.

Re: Athens 83 Alexander 14
baseballstud- travel issues are at every school and you being a local guy you know that. It may be easier at Athens than at Vinton County, but Athens has just as many students who come from poorer families who struggle with getting those kids to school/practice. It is not unfair to compare Athens and Vinton County as they are the two biggest schools in the Ohio Division, yet only one team gets thrown under the bus as a 'BIG' school because of the success their programs are having...and it happens to be the smaller of the two school...Vinton County is the Biggest School in the Ohio Division, not Athens...and I'm shocked you don't like what Athens brings to the League, as in facilities and gates especially...
NYBUX-
Your theory is flawed...
Pre-2008 TVC-OHIO
NY (Smallest) Dominated Football
Meigs/Alex (Mid) Domiated Baseball
Only basketball have we seen the (Biggest) School Vinton County be a annual threat...
Big Fish v. Small Pond ?
BIGHIT-
We were talking about such a great group of Athletes in one class, not since joining the League...also, the balance of the sizes of school in the Ohio are pretty strong.
TVC-OHIO
VC/ATHENS - DIII
MEIGS - DIV
ALX/WELLSTON - DV
NY - DVI
SEOAL -
LOGAN - DII
JACKSON - DIII
GALLIA/WARREN - DIV
PORTSMOUTH - DV
The OHIO has (2) Teams Bigger than the rest of the League as the SEOAL has (1) Team Bigger...
Each League has (1) Team Bigger than the next (3) Below the Biggest School(s)...
Each League has a (4) Different Divisions ...
Other than (NY) and (Logan), the Leagues would be DIII-DV Balanced...

Re: Athens 83 Alexander 14
you're wasting your time questionmark ... I've tried to explain the numbers ... and that the TVC-Ohio is one of the more balanced leagues in southeast Ohio in terms of enrollment.
They just don't understand it.

Re: Athens 83 Alexander 14
No bigger?
Athens, Vinton County and Meigs will be competing in ALL OF THE DIVISION 2 sports for the remainder of the year. 3 schools (6-team league) in the same division.
I guess you could find a league somewhere in Ohio where all the teams compete in the same division - but good luck - it may take awhile.
1/2 of the TVC-Ohio is D2 ... the other half is D3.
These are facts.

Re: Athens 83 Alexander 14
What was the reasoning behind Athens leaving the SEOAL? I honestly don't know?
Re: Athens 83 Alexander 14
Nevermind.. Just read the SEOAL thread.. Still think it would make sense for Athens and Marietta to join the SEOAL, but that's just my opinion.
Re: Athens 83 Alexander 14
Athens is dominate in the TVC in all sports because they are the biggest school in the TVC. They will always dominate the league. Because they do have more kids but then if you think about the families that move in what school looks most appealing? Athens of course since its so dominate. I mean like if OU professors, coaches, and any other employee of OU moves in then there kids will go to Athens cause they are so dominate. Look at the Luerhman? brothers...they live in Albany so technically they should go to Alexander but since they moved in they got to pick the school they wanted too

Move ins?
That last name is more synonymous with Athens, Ohio than mine ever will.

Re: Athens 83 Alexander 14
LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT REGARDING ATHENS AND THE TVC.
Its not o.k. for Athens to play Vinton County this week, because they are "too big" an all, but it would be o.k. for the two teams to meet in week 11 if they qualified for the state playoffs? I mean, they both are DIII, Region 9.
Its not o.k. to play Meigs on the hardwood in January in a league game - but playing them up in Logan in the DII sectional is o.k.? ... Athens is only the big fish if its a league game - but according to the OHSAA - they are not in the post season or tournament play?
Athens playing Vinton County for a league title is not o.k. ... but if they meet up in the Convo for the district title, somehow it becomes fine?
Athens playing Meigs on the baseball diamond is completely unfair when it comes to the TVC-Ohio ... but when your tournament life is on the line - its totally fine to meet up in Chillicothe and play at the VA?
Track meets too ... definitely uncool since Athens has too many kids ... but come April, Athens, Meigs and Vinton County will be getting together in the D2 district meet - but since its just a district meet its o.k. - so long as its not a "league meet?"
I'm sorry but that logic makes no sense to me.
Athens in theory is being called the 'big fish" one second - but once tournament play begins they are not ... that is ridicules.

Re: Athens 83 Alexander 14
I hate to say this to the Alexander, Wellston, NY folks - but it is in Meigs and VC best interest to keep Athens in the league.
I mean, they have to square off against Athens (and other D2 teams in the southeast district) as soon as the regular season ends. If they want any chance of some post season success they need to compete against - and try and beat - teams like Athens as much as they can. What better way than to have them in your league?
The basketball team, baseball team, cross country, golf, boys track, girls track ... they will all see Athens in the tournament - and other teams like Athens ... and lets not forget, a lot of these sports are seeding based with voting and politics involved ... Having the three schools (Athens, Meigs and VC) representing the TVC together may be a factor somewhere down the line.
