Man that would be great to see Portsmouth in the OVC I could only hope that G.A., Ironton and Oak Hill who use to be in the OVC get invites too. That would make one you know what of a basketball league and not bad for football either. That's Great hope it happens!!!!!

if portsmouth and gallipolils are smart they DECLINE unless allowed to piggyback 2-3 additional good quality teams with them! wins over 2-3 of these ovc schools each year are pointless a waste of time to play

They won't decline, it's a budget issue. Think of the costs that will be saved. Who wants to pay for a girls Volleyball game to travel from Portsmouth to Logan or Warren?

not at all bruiser. ironton has dominated the tri-state for decades and posers are taking their shots, get em in now, things will return to normal faster than you think. the only way they are better is win you see w1n's in their win column's. and as every year passes we see all you posers having a good time at the ironton playoff games. With the athletes coming through Portsmouth this move will be a league killer. I can't see anyone in the conference competing with them in football or basketball over the next few years. The other sports I don't have a clue of but their basketball team will be off the chain the next several years. The conference will finally have a face though with Portsmouths tradition and statewide reputation. The race for second place should be fun!

I have to disagree with you on part of this. Yes their basketball program is going to be tough for the next several years but their football program isnt at the same caliber at any of the lower levels.

Portsmouth is wanting in the OVC and gallipolis has been looking to get in for the past few years both would be a good fit.
They want nothing to do with Ironton big brother little brother deal there.
But Portsmouth and gallipolis are invitations waiting to happen.

And for the record, I wasn't trying to talk smack about Ironton. IIRC, Ironton was given the option of joining when they added River Valley back in 2002 and declined, which is why I added the comment in the first place.

It depends on the league but usually a school will apply on its own or after being invited and the member schools vote weather they want that school in or not........
Each league has there own twist such as what percentage of votes needed for approval and what not.

so example if 5 teams only want PORTSMOUTH in that's all that comes in ??? BIG mistake coming for Portsmouth if they accept this without other QUALITY teams coming

They did apply two years ago but were voted down by CG and RH. They are in the MSOVC starting next year on a probationary membership for the next two years. They'll get a vote one way or another depending on the facilities that will be used during their stint.
