WEEK 6-MINFORD @ PORTSMOUTH WEST
Re: WEEK 6-MINFORD @ PORTSMOUTH WEST
I don't have a beef with you j-red....I just believe if any area team was proactive in upgrading their schedule they could get it done....I wasn't questioning your integrity....I'm not buying what you were told...Ironton may or may not be the team of yesteryear but they are certainly an upgrade to any SOC II schedule...I like GAHS and Jackson too...I believe the current top 4 teams in the SOC can compete with those 3 teams...They may or may not win but they can compete...All three of those schools would probably love to schedule Burg, Minford, West and/or Valley...Why wouldn't they? It's a short trip and all 4 SOC schools travel well...
The openings may not be there now but with a little planning and coordinating, I'd bet any amount of money Ironton would schedule Minford vs JC, St Charles and some of the others on their schedule...

A little late to the party but I have to agree with most posters on here. Why in the world did Minford get away from what we do best. Minford was having success running the ball but once again penalties and turnovers killed us....again. Same story different week it seems. I knew West was a lot better than their record showed and I didn't have a good feeling all day on Friday. I just want to give my props to the boys and coaches on West they played extremely hard and definitely came up with a game plan that is simple but effective.... Run it till they stop it. Good Luck against Valley!
As for the scheduling I know for a fact that they are currently trying to get some teams from up north to replace a couple of our weaker games next year. Just a matter of finding matches with the weeks. The 7th division definitely hurt us because our school district believes that we should take in every student we can good or bad but mostly very very bad.

28buck, good luck to Falcons the rest of the season! Back to hard work, I think you will have some good wins ahead.

Re: WEEK 6-MINFORD @ PORTSMOUTH WEST
I have seen the Falcons run the I in the past. One formation I remember is the formation where they would put an extra lineman in the backfield ahead of the running back and go straight ahead off tackle, I could see this becoming a factor again if Coach Daniels desires. I would like to see Joyce become involved with some screens and draws or even a good ole buck sweep, the kid has burners. This loss although not as bad, reminds me of the 2010 team who had the bad loss to Wheelersburg, and next week rebounded to almost beat a very very good Portsmouth West team. As far as scheduling yeah, would enjoy to see the falcons take on some more competition early, even if they have to travel to the Dayton or Columbus area to do so. Coach Daniels is very passionate about the program and will work to figure out the formula, no doubt about that, these types of things happen, the West kids were just flat out ready to play and won a very emotional, grinding football game. As far as the passing game is concerned, the QB can throw the football and throw it well WHEN he sets his feet, I have noticed that all to often, even when not needed he isn't set when he throws it, he is often on the run, or off balance, even when he doesn't need to be. He throws great balls when he plants his feet and throws it with proper mechanics, I believe if he relaxes and sets his feet on throws he will be very effective(this is something I have noticed for the past 2 years). Minford will be just fine IMO, a few teams in region 14 lost this week and have some tough matchups in the future, the Falcons are now big fans of Oak Hill and it also wouldn't hurt if Portsmouth got some more wins. I can see the falcons sneaking in at 8-2, but they MUST defeat Burg or Valley to get in. I see week 10 having huge playoff implications on the line.

Jmo. A lot of posters are wandering why minford threw the ball so much. Everyone knows we struggle defending the pass I think the coaches done what they thought was the best thing to do. I was at the game and watched it lastnight the dropped passes was a huge factor in the game. Another factor in the game was things finally went our way for once this season.

100% agree! No Minford isn't a passing team, but yet had success doing so and your right the drops were huge.luvbigcats wrote:Jmo. A lot of posters are wandering why minford threw the ball so much. Minford played right into West's hand playing their kinda game and most of the time when that happens they have the edge.
Valley hasn't thrown a whole lot neither this year, but you could almost bet they will Friday night with as many holes that are in secondary.
Re: WEEK 6-MINFORD @ PORTSMOUTH WEST
According to the schedules on myOHSAA the Oak Hill-Minford game will be in week 2 in 2015.noticed Oak Hill has an open week 4, Minford could move Oak Hill there, and get Western Brown week 5.
Re: WEEK 6-MINFORD @ PORTSMOUTH WEST
Well at least we got our one bad game outta the way, it's was just pure frustration to watch when you know you have a better program than what was shown on Friday night. That's taking nothing from West, they ad a great game plan and executed it.
As this is still a dangerous team, the rest of the SOC better not over look the Falcons. There is still a chance we can get in at 8-2, but why worry about that when you can go 9-1. I doubt this group is ready to pack it in for the season, they have too much potential for that.

Daniels is a fine coach. He resorted to the pass because West stopped the run game. Held Justice to minimal. Minford has a fine team and I do believe they can still make the playoffs and yes they are a dangerous team. Good luck Minford
Re: WEEK 6-MINFORD @ PORTSMOUTH WEST
The Falcons offense was fine the coaches did what they thought was needed and put up 28 points, It was the Falcon defense that struggled bad. Several times West did a great job putting blocks or double team on our key players slowing them up and when we needed the others who usually don't have to fly to the ball just didn't step up and help when we needed the extra hustle to the ball.

Re: WEEK 6-MINFORD @ PORTSMOUTH WEST
There was nothing wrong with the passing game. QB threw passes on the money and hit receivers in the hands that they usually do not drop. If Minford hung on to the ball we would be talking a different score. 1 was a TD dropped and Minford lost by 7. Personally, I would like to see 20 passes a game by them. Remember, the defense gave up over 30 pts in this game. Minford scored 28. Why is the offense to blame for the loss for not running the ball more. Stop West offense, hold them to 7pts and Minford wins.
Re: WEEK 6-MINFORD @ PORTSMOUTH WEST
The boys played with "emotion" allnite long! That can do wonders for a team!!
Re: WEEK 6-MINFORD @ PORTSMOUTH WEST
high school kids playing in a great ball game. coaches coaching 30 hrs a week for free, basically. great game by both teams.
Re: WEEK 6-MINFORD @ PORTSMOUTH WEST
I wasn't there and don't know the details, but I would think that if if Minford had ran the ball more and controlled the clock, they could have kept the ball out of West's hands and not put their defense out there in 'must stop' situations.marshallman wrote:There was nothing wrong with the passing game. They missed D-5 by like 6 boys so they really got hosed and now everyone they play is in a lower division and unless they can get into D-5 with everyone else they won't see the playoffs for a long time. Hope I am wrong but the numbers speak for themselves.
What is hurting Minford is that their non-league teams are giving them NO 2nd level points.

Re: WEEK 6-MINFORD @ PORTSMOUTH WEST
Was Austin Carter hurt the 3rd quarter? He had alot of success running the ball well the first half and then he didnt carry it much the second half. He did have 3 nice runs that led to a quick score in the second half.
