The question was the greatest coach in your Programs History...... There have been a lot of great coaches in the state of Ohio, to say one is the all-time greatest would be impossible.....

in the post before this I explained coach lutz was the best coach in ironton high school's football program history---
also it's rather easy to still make the statement the best high school football coach- ohio has ever had. because nobody has ever done what he has done.he was won more games than all of them. we are not talking coaches that went to the college level or whatever, I thought we were strictly talking high school football coaches. the only thing that could have improved with ironton's program was more state titles than the 2 because they played for so many titles. but how many programs can say they have 2. if their teams were not such maulers and had more of a diverse offensive package I think they'd have won at least 3 more.but bob lutz made a living running over you the entire game till you folded your tent up. granted there have been many high school football coaches across the state that were amazing. the state is rich with ohio athletes and coaches.great topic.

IMO, toss up between him and James "Red" Dutey. Hard to argue against a .926 winning percentage, and an offer to become the assistant head coach at Ohio State under Woody Hayes, turning it down to become the Superintendent at Coal Grove.

I couldn't agree more and can't believe I forgot to mention Red Dutey. I guess I am still in shock about the current situation.

Hmmmm, did Eskey have 5 D1 players and a Mr. Football on any of his teams for 3 years? If not, that might make a difference? Just sayin...
Adams was 10-0 in 2011 without any D1 players too - and 9-1 in 2009 with just one (Vinnie Ryder) just sayin.
Not true, Rider and Schwarzel went to OHIO University to play.

They were walk ones. Ian Dixon is the only one playing D1 football from those teams

Dick tipton is the greatest head coach West has had. He was 136-56 in 19 seasons. During his time West won 6 league titles, 2 playoff appearances, and 1 undefeated season. Tipton also had around a .500 record vs burg. He made West a known force in area.

Mike Sammons took us to our greatest success, but Tipton instilled a winning culture and consistency.

They were still DI Football players, and Dixson is also a walk-on, so don't claim one and not the other two! Dixon led the team in TD's last year and YPC.

She can be the best female basketball player from Ohio, but that still doesn't make her the best athlete ever from southeastern Ohio.

She isn't even the best basketball athlete ever from SE Ohio. That distinction goes to Hondo.

How about Ed Miller from Notre Dame and Wheelersburg? Three State Champ[ionships, 67 and 70, AP at Notre Dame, 89 at Wheelersburg. 1981, 89 and 91 Regional Championships. 20 SOC championships, 17 time SOC Coach of the Year, 67, 70 and 79 AP Coach of the Year, 11 undefeated teams in his coaching career; he may only have 250 wins but what's even more impressive is that in over 30 years as a coach, he only had 41 losses. That is slightly over one per year. He won right at 85% of the time in which he was a head coach. Lutz can most certainly claim over 100 more wins than Miller, but did he win at a higher percentage? Plus, even though they are "mythical" championships, Ed Miller for all intents and purposes of the legality and legitimacy of what a state championship is, has one more than Lutz does. Plus, Ed Miller might the only coach in Southern Ohio or even Nation-Wide to have a quarterback go undefeated all four years of high school and then in college; that man being Chuck Ealey.

They are from the east district which is part of the athens regional. She is good, best at Logan and probably best girl athlete
Neil Johnston from Chillicothe, NBA hall of fame, NBA champion, final four at Ohio state
Larry Hisle from Portsmouth, 2 time mlb all star and 2 time mlb world champ
OJ Mayo from south point
Hubert Bobo from Chauncey Dover. Still holds national records, 39 game winning streak, 3 time ap small school state champ and national champ at Ohio state as fullback
