Union Local @ Monroe Central - Week 1

Post by surfsider »

Should be an good test for MC and coach Circosta. I know Seminoles lose a good RB in Levi Brown and they had low numbers last season. Hope it picks up this year.
Jets lose that big tackle Colton McKivitz (d-1 recruit),but I forget which school recruited him.. I think WVU.

Noles name the score in this one on the hinges of their OL & DL.

MC fans are quickly realizing what Dink Schuerman meant to the football program. A lot of talk through the stands about how scary the defense looked.

Well they were pitching a shut out in the first half. Don't you think some of it is the fact that only 29 kids are on the team and only 14 are really mature enough to play varsity right now? You can't just throw freshmen and sophomores out there to rest starters if they're not physically ready. They're playing both ways every snap with about 14 kids, and probably wearing down. I doubt they can go full speed in practice for fear of injuries so they aren't fully conditioned yet.

I'm not undermining what Coach Schuerman would add to the program, but there's nothing he can do either when kids start physically wearing out. The people in the stands need to curb their expectations. Talent wise they probably are really only a .500 football team, but with Coach C and the staff he has they probably can squeeze out 7 or 8 wins. Coach Circosta with his offseason program, focus on fundamentals and teaching during two-a-days, gameplan preparation, in-game adjustments, influence, and just overall sense of seeing everything you can see on a football field that only comes with 45 years of head coaching experience is worth 2 or 3 wins each year. I truly believe that. And not taking anything away from the young men that went out and earned the "W" last night; last night might have been one of those 2 or 3 wins.

MC has always had players going both ways. It didn't just start this year.

No, but they usually have had 40+ players and not 29 like they have had the past 2 years. And out of that 29 not all of them are ready for varsity football.

People grumbling over a defense that had a pick 6, and first half shutout, and holding a team to 16 points in week 1 is a bit much in my book is all.
