Unless you get a new recruiter to go with the new head coach and assistant you will have the same think that all of the OVC schools have had for years. A great team that comes along only once in a while and mediocre teams the rest of the time is what you will have. Welcome to everyone else's football programs! Without the Lawrence County all stars Ironton will be the same as everyone else! Good Luck to the new coach though, I hope the Ironton faithful give him a chance!

So - to summarize, a guy without a teaching degree, will be offered a teaching job along with a coaching job, he will be "bringing college guys with him" when the avg small college prof salary is approximately $67,000 and the average salary for a teacher in Ohio is approx $37,000, the "war on drugs" is suddenly going to "WORK" and the opiate epidemic is going to miraculously vanish. Poverty will not be a factor and the population decrease will suddenly transform and Ironton will once again transform into a booming epicenter of manufacturing with a steady influx of new, young residents. The avg demography of male and 42 yrs of age will then suddenly transform as well and Irontons enrollment will grow steadily year after year for eternity?

I heard assistants have already been hired and only head coaching position is being considered. I don't get that at all. I also heard it was the reason Grizzle turned down the offer. He wanted his own assistants. I hope I am wrong about this. Not being in charge of your staff puts a head coach in a tough situation from the get go.

I do know for a fact that’s false. My source is interviewing for his staff and said he gets to pick his entire staff and he’s bringing people with him as well. He also may have a teaching position available to where he can hire an assistant from out of town to fill the position. Hearing he has a couple interviews set up with college guys looking to get on his staff that would make more money at Ironton as a teacher/coach than coaching small college.

I hope you are right. Hiring assistants before the head coach made no sense to me at all.

Just heard the Portsmouth West Board of Education are working on a deal to keep Pendleton in their program. Possibly a head coach in waiting deal!

Why would they do that? If he has any kind of success at Ironton he will come back to the west side when that position opens up.

Because a big part of the fans want him or his brother to be the coach at West.

Well I've personally asked Trevon about this very subject recently and I'll say either he is a very good liar or you are out in left field.

Trevon is a very popular guy down here with the people and the kids. Ironton is a good job with history, but if the West job opened up tomorrow he would apply.

We like Coach Johnson and think he has done an excellent job. But as the other poster said, Trevon would be the choice if/when it opens.

Far as that goes, I wish Trevon all the luck. He will work hard and improve things if given a chance.

Best of luck to Coach Pendleton. If kids leave then so be it. They can go. The rebuild will be a marathon not a sprint. It will be a complete culture change, and will be more about the kids coming up more than anything. The players immersed in the old system are potential distractions anyway if they aren't all in. Hopefully that is not the case, the players will stay, and give Coach Pendleton and the program an opportunity to succeed immediately. I will hold judgment until perhaps the sophomores become seniors.

Aren’t you the one that transferred your daughter to Burg for a better opportunity and you didn’t like the coach?

I don’t see where you think I am criticizing anyone for leaving. I’m saying if they want to leave let them go. If you stay be all in and don’t be a distraction. And yes I had a daughter leave Ironton. I stand by her decision. It worked out very well for her. She needed a better program to prepare for college. My son stayed at Ironton, and did great. I stand by his decision as well. They both had their reasons. Stay or go, but be all in wherever you end up.

Yes please give him a chance! Game Day doesn’t want to have to get on here and bash another coach like he did Coach Vass! Hopefully the new coach will hire Game Day and he will be too busy to get on Preps too bash others! Keep him busy!
