Marietta won’t let Dover band do halftime
Saw this on Yappi. Why won’t Marietta let them perform at half?

If Dover has a bunch of dancers and Marietta is invoking the There's No Dancing In Football rule, I'm cool with that.

Maybe there was a problem in communication. Getting Band Dover mixed up with Bend Dover.
Re: Marietta won’t let Dover band do halftime
Game is this Friday 19th.All Marietta HS home games are played on the College field which is turf.
Maybe they are afraid the band will stir up too many rubber pellets.

Is it homecoming or something? I mean before all the outrage is there an actual reason? Man, people just wanna be PO'd these days about everything. What are the facts to this.
Re: Marietta won’t let Dover band do halftime
This is just a guess.... Being that it will be Mariettas Senior night, maybe it is to limit the halftime activities. If that's the case, hopefully they arent allowing Mariettas Band to preform at the half either.
Re: Marietta won’t let Dover band do halftime
The Yappi discussion is pretty funny - and informative. I was surprised at the number of folks who said they've seen homecoming activities (or Senior Nite, etc) held at halftime at Ohio HS games this year and in very recent years.
I can understand doing that at schools that don't have marching bands, but if you're in a league where everyone has a band, I would think all the schools should already have been doing the extra-curricular stuff during pre-game.
Back when dinosaurs walked the earth and I was in high school in the 1970's, the football team did their Senior Nite thing before the game, and the band did theirs during halftime - but it was built into the 7.5 minute show, so the visiting band was never impacted.
Saw an interesting tidbit from 2012 about Auburn at Ole Miss that year. Auburn had turned in their paperwork to the Ole Miss AD in the spring indicating they would be bringing their band to Ole Miss that fall, and would participate in the halftime. The week of the game the Ole Miss AD said they just became aware of Auburn's request the week before the game, and said Auburn could not do a halftime show - while Auburn had already made the travel arrangements and spent the money for the trip. I'm sure that got both the band and the fans stirred up!

Poor little guys....everyone knows that the fans all come to watch the band. Football is just a filler in between halftimes. Lol
Re: Marietta won’t let Dover band do halftime
Who cares...its a football game..not a band concert...
School bands have their own competitions that they do. Why does Friday night football games have to be all about the band???.... Now, do I enjoy watching the bands play? Yes. But, would I be sad if I came to the game and there wasn't a band playing? No. I would most likely spend more time at the concession stand.

I would say allowing the band to play is a courtesy and not a right. If there is a legit reason, so be it. At least, they let the band know in advance. That was the courteous thing to do. I've seen it where a band showed up and they wouldn't let them play. That was rude.
Doing the right thing is rarely easy.
