That's a pretty bold statement, saying it DOESN'T happen. I know of one program in the area that is working on their system now and they have class time with the players to go over plays and calls at the line, keepings things fresh in their mind and adding to it as well. Not to mention getting the soon to be freshman involved in learning an expanded system from junior high level to high school. So why I get the premise that not EVERYONE is working on their system in spring, to say no one does is just incorrect. Especially when you say in Southeastern Ohio, so you think teams in this area wouldn't do it, but teams up North or in other states do?? However, it's a lost art here in SEO that working on a system now just isn't done.OSU22 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2019 1:49 pm" Guess you don't want to get the coach in there and get him working on his system "Ground Buck wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2019 1:18 pmYep. Nelsonville-York didn't hire coach Richards until the end of March in 2016. NY went 9-3
"We" make it a much bigger deal than it really is.
This isn't college ball. There is no spring ball, or spring practices so installing a system in the spring is something that DOESN'T happen here in Southeastern Ohio. Will a coach get his staff on the same page around this time? Yes. Is there going to be a kid or two who don't play spring sports and are wanting to learn the new system in the spring. MAYBE. But the thought that coaches "install" game plans and systems with their team is just not sensible. In the last 15-20 years at NY I know that this hasn't happened. And look at the continued success they have had. These are high school kids. Let them play all they are able to while they are still young and enjoy playing the game, no matter what game or sport that may be.

Most of the schools in Southeastern Ohio are small schools and a whole lot of football players are doing track and baseball in the spring. No football coach is going to expect those kids to show up to a "voluntary" class while in season for another sport.greygoose wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2019 9:49 pmThat's a pretty bold statement, saying it DOESN'T happen. It doesn't take that long to teach kids plays. By the middle of July, kids will have the okay book down.
Yes, I'm sure a few schools may do this but it is far from the norm
Voluntary or not, coaches are treading on shaky ground in doing this.

Oh I agree with you, with so many other sports going on it'd be hard to expect them to be there each time. However, to say that it doesn't happen or no football coach does it is just incorrect. I'm sure for the area you can possibly count a handful of teams if that, that would be doing this. I see what you're implying in your last sentence and I wondered that exact thing. At the same time though do you believe other larger schools do work on the system though?? I mean you mention SEO but curious if you think it goes on at these larger schools that do have year in and year out success.Orange and Brown wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2019 11:01 pmMost of the schools in Southeastern Ohio are small schools and a whole lot of football players are doing track and baseball in the spring. With larger schools it is easier to do because kids specialize and the pure numbers they have allow them to. But most of the schools in SEO are small schools and don't have the time nor the ability to do this. All of their athletes play every sport.greygoose wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2019 12:06 amOh I agree with you, with so many other sports going on it'd be hard to expect them to be there each time. Yea, that's what I've been saying. Unless of course he can get those kids to run through brick walls.

It's not like that, if they can get the coach to stay they'll give him 2-3 years and if they improve a little bit they'll sign him long-term,Howard Cosell wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 11:21 am

Our new coach will be here long term. Unless it’s a complete failure, this will be the longest tenured coach in school history.greygoose wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 10:09 pmIt's not like that, if they can get the coach to stay they'll give him 2-3 years and if they improve a little bit they'll sign him long-term,Howard Cosell wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 11:21 am

Well yeah that's what I said, plus that's kind of how all coaches are. Dundas is an interesting name, know a guy that used that name for a fantasy football team. What is catching on in southeastern Ohio. Is teams doing camps... they may not actually go anywhere but sometime in early summer. Sometimes in late May or first week of June and they use 3 of there 10 summer days to put in there schemes. There camps because maybe we are going to have 6 to 8 practices over these 3 days.
Then with the changing of rules where you can work with up to 7 kidson a day without using one of your 10 days plenty of time to do work.
What is very hard is really the very limited amount of time teams go at full contact full speed.
