Jackson has 174 this year.

I remember back in 1997 at playoff game we played Youngstown East....they had about 40 fans and we had about 5,000. Their band had like 12 kids and ours was around 190 and did the Script Ohio at halftime

But none of that mattered as we lost in the final minute
Wow just 12 kids that’s crazy. Jackson had always had a big band. Burg has always been small too
I’m sure I can have some burg folks back me up on this but back in the 70-80’s they would have ups to 180 members and be scripting Burg at halftime

It really pains me to see GA's marching band go from being one of the best corps bands in the state in the 80s-2002. Dave Phillips and Rod Tolliver are two of the sharpest minds I've ever known, when it comes to music. I've heard horror stories of entire band practices being dedicated to repeating the same measure for hours on end, until it was perfected.

But that's the type of discipline it takes to be truly elite. GA still has a good, high quality sound, and they project very well, but.....we're talking them being literally twice the size they are now.

On a site like this, most would obviously prefer a kid of theirs to play football, and for good reason. Football is the greatest game ever invented.

Having done both, myself, I'm split. There was one year I went on the field with a drum strapped to my chest in leg pads. I loved doing both.

Script Burg?
Yes to many peoples surprise the burg did script "Burg" back in the day, I can't quite recall if it was a weekly thing or a special occasion but after some clarification from a family member they certainly did script it back in the day.

During the 80's the Portsmouth Trojan Band of Tomorrow was second to none in all of the region. The band covered the majority of Spartan Stadium's field during halftime. There was considerably more participation in the band back then as I believe it was Billy Watson? In charge.. The band today is still quite good, however numbers are far fewer.

Ironton has by far the least impressive band out of all the bands I have listened to. Million Dollar Band? More like 25 cent band.

yep, if they aren't playing an instrument they are not in the band. they same go to the dance corps.
