For the most part the ovc is perfect. This is not a football league and everyone knows it. The other sports are very competitive with gallia definitely benefitting from being the largest school with more depth. Ironton and gallia will finish no higher than 4th in the ovc in basketball for example.

Portsmouth should never leave because they are in a basketball conference where they belong.

From an outsiders perspective it appears as though ironton is a good fit for the OVC. They are a small D5 school and by no means have they been dominant since they've joined. Aren't the majority of schools in the conference bigger than ironton? I'm thinking ironton and Dawson Bryant are probably the 2 smallest schools in the conference.

Im sick of hearing that bs. Every school has transfers. Burg, East, New Boston, Green are all beside each other and kids choose what schools they want to go to. Just like Ironton is near Coal Grove and Rock Hill. When Ironton is winning theres always a bs reason. Pendleton is a winner and has changed the atmosphere. Of course kids want to play for him. Under Vass we had transfers too, but nobody said anything because we weren't dominating like we are now.
They all transferred out during Vass's tenure

Yes, I expected that to be the case but I will probably go back later and see if that gap has narrowed any the last few years since the league expanded. I know in the past it seemed pretty uncommon for anyone other than Coal Grove to consistently compete with Soc teams.

Yes, ironton is a good fit for the OVC. It's about more than football when looking at a conference, they're same size as the rest of the schools. Funny how ironton has a little success and then question them, burg has dominated SOCII for quite sometime and it's never been questioned if they were a good fit or not.

Kind of a silly post. Ironton has a good team this year and the transfers make them better. This is a good year for ironton but burg beating Ashland and Ashland beating ironton says that they can be beat.

Enrollment

Gallipolis 222
Chesapeake 191
South Point 176
Portsmouth 161
Ironton 160
Rock Hill 156
Fairland 152
Coal Grove 127

I would say from an enrollment standpoint it was one of the more balanced leagues in the southeastern district. Gallia to Coal Grove is a big drop but the middle 6 teams are 39 kids apart.

It's crazy to see these numbers when just a few years ago Chesapeake had a major dip in enrollment and were getting close to D4 in basketball....... Now with those numbers, they're closer to D2 than D4..

Buddy I’m talking about thru each class and if they continue to do that the OVC can’t hold them, to small of schools! Then Ironton will need to go back to independent and keep all other sports in the OVC.

CGFAN#1 wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2019 11:44 pm You Ironton fans can brush away the transfer statements all you want but it's real. With all OVC schools being quite small adding 2-3 extra athletes per grade drastically improves depth and overall talent. Take those transfers off of the team then Ironton is an average to solid team with or without Carrico. Would be like a talented Portsmouth Parker team.
In regard to other sports Ironton has not made a difference in the OVC.
My honest opinion is Ironton can leave the OVC and take their transfers with them. Then no local schools should play them and they will be forgotten.
The real school that should not be in the OVC is Gallipolis. They are too big. Portsmouth is a good fit. Drop GA and add Oak Hill.
Real answer is merge OVC and SOC. OVC as small school division and SOC as large school.
Just one person's opinion.
Somebody is mad

Did you ever think that Ironton and Portsmouth would be in the middle of the pack? Back in my day I didn’t 70’s and 80’s

Looking back at their peaks in history then no, absolutely not. But with the factories closing in many parts of the areas the declining population has been very steady unfortunately.

It is quite strange to see Chesapeake so much bigger than Portsmouth and Ironton.

Anyone can be beat any given week. I'm looking forward to playing the Burg again because 1 of 2 things WILL happen
1. Ironton beats the Burg,Burg cries about Ironton having transfers
2. Burg wins and they are loving it because they beat all the transfers
Wheelersburg crying over transfers is equivalent of me giving one of their fans a hundred dollar bill and they wanted 2-50's

Hoping we get to point number 1 again
