JoJo vs Jermon can you imagine having those 2 backs on the same field going at it ? WOW is all i can say about that matchup.
Ironton lost to Wauseon in both football (13-10) and basketball (65-62) in the State tournament that school year. I was a regular at all the State tourney's in both basketball and football for a couple decades + and was always pleased when SEO teams made it there. :D

2002 West, state runner up to the Mauk machine in Kenton. Finished 8-2 and entered the playoffs as a 7 seed. The started with 10-0 New Lexington with Drew Cannon and held them to 6 points. Then they beat Coshocton with Doori Song who had come to their home field and beat them by two scores in week 10. They then avenged their other regular season loss by taking down Portsmouth who had Jeremiah Bolden in the backfield who had rushed for around 2000 yards that year. They entered the state semis against a loaded Ursuline team and held them to a season low 7 points, this team played 2 d1 playoff schools including the runner up and played the d3 champion that year. They then ran into Ben Mauk and Lens went down early which turned a 2 score type game into a blowout. I would say that team would match up well because their fronts were obscenely big and strong for a d4 school, they were hard hitting and wore you down. Cantrell was a big fullback who loved to block or grind out short yardage head first and Lens at tailback I believe is probably in my top 5 I've seen personally play.
They had 3 1000 yard rushers that year. Cantrell, Lens and Williams. The o-line had 3 kids over 300 lbs, the announcers said probably biggest line in the state that year. I think they averaged around 280. They was a very physical football team. The funny thing is they used to ask me what I was doing the day after Thanksgiving, then tell me I better be up north watching them play in the state championships. Really enjoyed watching that group.
Didn’t lens have a high ankle sprain going into that game? Not sure if that made a difference but couldn’t have hurt.
Yes I believe so.

I don't see it, Waverly ran all over that defense, their line is bigger than ours but I'd put our skill guys against theirs.

One kid broke two long runs. A kid that’s done that to everyone except unioto but they had 4 turnovers that game. Burg contained him enough. Not seen Portsmouth play so can’t agree or disagree but I know burg is better than what’s being said on here. They are jelling at the right time

Jackson and Ironton would be interesting. Two strong defenses . Only common opponent was Burg and both handled them easily. I give the edge to Ironton but would be fun to see.

Parker has turned more broken plays and missed blocks into long runs then anyone I've seen in years. Matthews breaks tackles and carries people like he's a 230-240 pound fullback. It would be a great battle and I'd say realistically it would go 60/40 in Burgs favor. We'd let them know they were in a fight and I wouldn't be surprised if we won though. That being said I do root for all area teams in the playoffs , even Ironton and just enjoy good football no matter who is playing it. I think the bar has definitely been raised in Southeast Ohio. The playoff expansion in 99 has given a lot of teams the opportunity to play in some big games and had made every one try a little harder and schedule a little more dangerously knowing you have leeway. There have been a few teams from this area playing in week 13 or beyond that wouldn't have made the playoffs prior to the expansion.

Like to see Portsmouth and Jackson sign a home and home deal in the future. I know they won’t Play every year but a fun local matchup

I don't know how Jackson would feel about that, possible risk, low reward for them. Here is the series history since 2000.

00 d3 playoffs : Jackson (8-3) 6 @ Portsmouth(13-1) 34
06 d4 Portsmouth (3-7) 21 @ d3 Jackson (6-5) 19
07 d2 Jackson (6-4) 14 @ d4 Portsmouth (8-3) 54
08 d4 Portsmouth (1-9) 20 @ d2 Jackson (5-5) 21
09 d3 Jackson (7-3) 27 @ d4 Portsmouth (7-3) 26
10 d3 Jackson (9-2) 38 @ d4 Portsmouth (3-7) 13
11 d4 Portsmouth (3-7) 6 @ d3 Jackson (11-1) 56
12 d3 Jackson (5-5) 35 @ d4 Portsmouth (1-9) 7
13 d5 Portsmouth (3-7) 19 @ d3 Jackson (6-4) 26
14 d3 Jackson (11-1) 49 @ d5 Portsmouth (3-7) 21

10 games
Average Division Jackson 2.8 Portsmouth 4.1
Average wins Jackson 7.4 Portsmouth 4.5
Average score Jackson 29.1 Portsmouth 22.1
Jackson 7-3 with a 7 game streak but the games were usually competitive until the wheels completely fell off the Portsmouth program with the (pick your Facebook rumor scandal) that turned over our entire staff and the coaching carousel that has followed. I think our all time longest winning streak was against Jackson but it would have been in the leather helmet days.

Wheelersburg and Rock Hill. Redmen are playing their best ball of the season right now just coming off a big win against Chesapeake, who beat Oak hill, who beat Minford, who took pirates into overtime only losing 21-20. I think Redmen would win this matchup.
