You gotta boyfriend that coaches a team up there or something?
So that wasnt what was said? The best team in seo history DID get it done or nah?
Yeah there’s better teams up north that’s not anything new. Athens played better competition. Athens would’ve beat the brakes off Kirkland
Athens beating the brakes off " Kirtland " is a ridiculous statement.

Having played against that Athens team and seeing what they did to Tri-Valley in the playoffs (the best team I’ve seen in person besides that Athens team), I’m going with Athens. Burrow was an absolute difference maker. However, not at all doubting some of the other teams mentioned.

Teams I believe would've beat the 2014 Athens team are:
2017 wheelersburg
2000 Portsmouth
1999 ironton
1995 Bellaire
1993 ironton
1992 ironton
1992 Vinton County
1992 Nelsonville York
1989 Ironton
1989 wheelersburg
1989 Waverly
1989 Portsmouth West
1981 Nelsonville York
1981 ironton which was most likely the best team ever in southeastern Ohio.
1979 ironton
2014 Athens would be #16 on my list.

2014 Athens: 14-1, D3 State Runner Up

1977 Crooksville: Class A State Champion

1981 Coal Grove: State Semi-Finals

Ironton:1979 and 1989 Double A and Division 3 State Champion

Jackson 2003: Upset #1 seed Mount Healthy in the playoffs

Logan 2000 and 2008: D1 Regional Runner Up and had Patrick Angle as QB in 2008

Minford 1985: State Semi-Finals

Nelsonville-York: 1981 DIV State Champions

Portsmouth: 2000 DIII State Semi Finals

Portsmouth East, now Sciotoville: 1960 SOC1 Champions, outscored their opponents, 400-6 (not a typo)

Portsmouth Notre Dame: 1967 and 1970 AP Poll State Champions

Portsmouth West: 2002 DV State Runner Up

Trimble: 2013 DVII State Runner Up and 2018 DVII State Runner Up. 2013 Team had 8 Shutouts and 2018 had 9 shutouts.

Lucasville Valley: 1996-99: 40 Consecutive regular season wins and 4 Straight SOC1 Championships

Vinton County: 1993 DIV Regional Runner Up

Waverly: 1968-69 Teams. 19-0-1

Wellston: 1915 “Mythical” state runner up to Fostoria, 1957 SEOAL Champs, and any team that had Brad Young on it

Westfall: 2007 DIV State Semi Finals

Wheelersburg: 1989 and 2017 State Champs

This is a at least a decent list of probably the best teams from our Area.
2003 Jackson….no. Several better years.
In 1968 Waverly was undefeated and in 1969, Waverly and Jackson were both undefeated going into the last game of the season. They played each other in that last game. There were only two class size schools in Ohio at that time, class A (small schools) and class AA (large schools). At the time of the game, Jackson was rated 8th in the state in AA. I can't recall what class Waverly was then...I wouldn't think they would have been AA as Jackson was quite a bit larger back then. They played to a 14-14 tie in that game. Probable the two best teams in the area at that time and for a couple of years. Great memories.

No, Kirtland has won the state championship the last 3 years in a row, and played in 4 consecutive state championships for a reason. I think Kirtland would've gave Athens all they wanted and maybe more.

Different animal between D5 and D3. You really don’t think Joe Burrow would’ve picked them apart? Did you watch him play? Greatest high school qb in Ohio history. 4 d1 weapons around him

Mentor lake catholic played in the D3 state championship game last year and Kirtland handled them pretty handily last year along with D1 Shaker Heights, and D1 Solon. Yes I watched Athens vs Tri valley, St. Francis desalles, and Central catholic.

Burrow is great, I am a fan, but the topic is best team, not best player, but I agree Burrow is without a doubt the best player ever in SEO.

hands down 2015 trimble. Justice Jenkins best player in high school player in SEO history not even close. I am just looking at high school, obviously Burrow's acheivments past high school are better

As a Tomcat fan, I have to disagree with you. That 2015 team was down compared to the 2013 and 2014 teams. Jenkins was a good player, but I think the best player in SEO history is a far stretch.

I'm not saying these two teams were even near the greatest ever because for one I wasn't born, and their is many many other great teams on this list. But for small schools, I was always told that in 1970 Portsmouth West vs Notre Dame was called the game of the century, played at spartan stadium. Was told it was standing room only. ND won 13-7. West had 5 shutouts that year. Beat Burg by 40, East by 62, and also beat Jackson that year. It's a shame we didn't have different playoff systems at that time. Alot of good teams never got their shot.

Not even close to being accurate. Burrow was way better. Heck even VC had better players than anyone in Trimble history. Jason Snyder (stated at Navy and was all conference), and Jason Caudill (started at OU and was all conference) to name a few. Has Trimble ever had a player go on to start at a D1 school?

That 1992 VC running game was nearly unstoppable. Best 3 teams in that division I watched that year were:
1. Mentor lake Catholic
2. Ironton
3. Vinton County

Gotta be 2014 Athens with Burrow even though they didn't win it all.

As for the 2nd best team, for me it would be between 2017 Wheelersburg and 2000 Portsmouth. I'd give the edge to Burg with the Salyers to Holden combo. Not old enough to remember the teams from the 70s and 80s, but just going off the best teams I've seen in person.*
