Re: Belpre football
Totally agree BJ. But that would make too much sense lol. If the young guy takes over next year, i know some Belpre grads with coaching experience that would assist him. But they would have to get rid of the current ones helping.

Re: Belpre football
Jimmie Bell should not be allowed to coach another game at Belpre. Poor kids that have to play for him. They are probably the worst team in the entire state. Absolute embarrassment to that community…not because of the kids, but because of the “leaders” who have let this get to this point.
Re: Belpre football
Careful, Belpre school board members believe he is a difference maker and Big M loves him.

68-0 is more than a coaching problem. Looks like some kids and parents need to look in the mirror.

New facility levy for Belpre City Schools only failed by 60 votes this past spring. Leaving this coach in place does more harm than good when looking to the voter for their approval of the district’s leadership.

Re: Belpre football
I’m not a fan of blaming coaching. In this case though, they have not been taught fundamentals bc the head coach doesn’t know how. The kids are busting their butts sir. The situation is clearly an example of incompetence from the board and superintendent for hiring someone who is not qualified. Remember, he never coached a game on ANY level, including peewee.Jimbobscousin wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 7:09 pmchrishilton91 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 7:07 am The parents need to go to the next board meeting to express their feelings.

Re: Belpre football
Belpre might be on a downturn in enrollment or athletes. However, being outscored 235-0 in 4 games is unbelievable and unacceptable for any program. If they don’t compete in any of their TVC-Hocking games coming up, it might be highly beneficial for the community to look to move the program in a different direction.

“STAY AWAY FROM BELL”……this is the message students have painted in their heads.
Opposing View…. Big M…so the Board and Supt follow
Big M’s lead. Lead?? Yes, toward
failure of levy and football. Thanks
Big M.

Re: Belpre football
We have a great Coach living right near us and he is all coach and no bs! Kids already respect him. He won big at Federal Hocking when they had great teams. He is 10000% different than Bell.

Federal Hocking made the playoffs in 2006 with a 9-1 record under coach Jeff Downs. They won the Hocking with a 5-0 record. That’s all I can think of. Jeff still resides in Athens county to my knowledge.
He also took Vinton County to the playoffs in 2004 with an 8-2 record.

Re: Belpre football
I believe The Salesman, Springer, was the man in charge in 06 and took them to 9-1 and Hocking champs. I think he was here two years and had a co-champ and outright champ but I could be off a little in the years. He didn't require anyone to come to conditioning or weight lifting or practices and the practices were short. No practices during fair week, which is right in the middle of two a days. He got record numbers of kids out with that approach and at that time we were loaded with athletes in the school, and he got them to play football which most coaches can't. They were in terrible shape, but good enough and deep enough to keep talent on the field and go 9-1. Then Downs came in after that and used pretty much the same approach and reaped the benefits of what Springer had started which led to a playoff appearance.Dundas wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 10:40 pmFederal Hocking made the playoffs in 2006 with a 9-1 record under coach Jeff Downs.
