Could this team be the best Jackson team ever. ?

every team has chased what the 1996 Southern Storm team did. the new expectations set.

1996 set the new bar of just not a league championship, but 10-0 with deep post season runs. are a must.

2022 win this round they in the top 3.

this team represents all the 8-2 and 9-1 teams that were left out after week 10.

they are healthy. they are doing the right things at the right time. and i truly believe they can find theirselves where only two other teams in school history ne found
to being the only team to make it past the other two.
Agreed, this group could easily be 12-0 with the hardest schedule in recent memory. If they win Friday they’ll be as far as any Jackson team and if they win the region they are the new kings.

Remember the last time these 2 played and rumors in the stands Urban had taken a chopper to the game to watch his son play. Don’t know if that was true or not but I do remember it was a great game to watch.

Jackson is rolling but I can’t imagine they’ll be that good 3 weeks in a row. But I do still think Jackson moves on

Just a few notes/thoughts.

This is Jackson's 17th playoff appearance. They have an all-time playoff record of 12-16 going into Friday night. They have played in two regional finals (1996 - 4 teams per region, 2015 - 8 teams per region).

Jackson now has 10 playoff appearances under Coach Andy Hall. They are currently 9-9 in playoff games coached by Hall.

A win on Friday night certainly cements this Jackson team as one of the greatest in program history. No Jackson team has ever won 3 playoff games in a single post-season. Only 5 teams in Jackson's history have reached 11 wins if I remember correctly (1996, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2019).

There have been some very talented teams throughout Jackson's history, some of which were before the playoff era. I have been following Jackson football very closely since the early 1990s and to this day, it's my personal opinion that there has never been another team quite like the 1996 squad. They played with a level of physicality that was quite impressive...just absolutely dominant at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. At that point in time, Jackson football didn't throw the ball much at all. The 1996 team was capable of doing that, but they never had to during the regular season because they could impose their will on anyone. Had they developed a bit more of a passing game, I think they would have had a much better chance of beating DeSales and possibly even winning a state title (Sheridan and Cleveland Benedictine would have been the eventual opponents - DeSales lost a low-scoring defensive battle to Benedictine in the title game).

They led that Regional Final against DeSales 7-0 in the 3rdQ off a defensive TD, but just couldn't dominate DeSales up front (missing Erik Davis after the first series of the game and also FB Shannon Smith didn't help), and they eventually got worn down by the Stallions' depth. It was also unfortunate that Joey Boggs wasn't even close to 100% with a lingering knee injury...definitely some key injuries/players missing at the worst possible time.

This year's Jackson team does rely heavily on the run game, and it seems like Hall prefers to run the ball, but that ability to also rely on the passing game might end up being very helpful this week and beyond (hopefully). Good luck to the Ironmen on Friday. Leave your mark. Make more history!

great post.

you sure know what happened to the 1996 Regional Championship game. even after the defensive TD and XP to go up 7-0 late 3rd qrter. Erik Davis doesn’t get hurt on the first play of the game. by the time in that game Erik would have gotten us another score with Shane Wolford and Joe Boggs ? don’t know. but he sure as hell would have made sure we got a couple 1st downs to where maybe at that point the 1996 team could have held on for another 15mins ?? tough one. here’s a 1996 tidbit

not one but TWO opposing teams HC walked into the 1996 Jackson team to thank them for what they did to their football teams.

on the opening pre-season scrimmage against Wheelersburgs Larry Hall walked the ENTIRE TEAM of burg into the locker room of Jackson. the weight room. seeing what was happening at Jackson. and im almost certain. that Larry Halls Wheelersburg team went to the 1996 regional championship game theirselves. if they were runner ups or champs. i can’t remember

and then after the 1996 Regional Championship Game
DeSales HC Bob Jacoby walked in and SPOKE to the Jackson team. they went onto be state runner-up.

the 1996 team is almost mentioned 1st in everything post season in your fact driven post. as in my reply to IronMen98. the 1996 set the new standard. 10-0, league champs. deep post season runs and in program history there’s been a teams chasing it ever since.

i sure hope this 2022version of our Ironmen set the new standard. it’s time for a new one. 1996 has been entirely way too long. and wer goin to be there soon. we are seeing GREAT RESULTS in Andy Halls overhaul of the schedule just at the end of year TWO results are good and our regional championship is coming. soon

You should be able to go to jcs.k12.oh.us to find the link on Friday, but last week it cost $9.99 to stream. I would assume that it is the same this week.

the “hardest schedule” trend started last year in 2021.

2021 logan, Licking Valley , Western Brown, Burg , Ironton

2022 Logan, Ironton, Tri-Valley , Burg, western Brown

the schedule overhaul that Andy Hall started well he started just that: a new trend to set the new standard

they’ll be very seldom years from here on out that the Jackson Ironmen play anything but the “hardest schedule” year in and year out. that will make us regional champs sooner then later and the so sought after new set standard for the program will be accomplished n it’s coming.
