I agree I can’t wait to see our line play vs another team i expect them to be the strength of our team this year on both sides of the ballJeaux Burreaux wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 2:01 pm Thank goodness games aren’t played in tshirts and shorts or Waverly would be 0-10

Correct, he's still learning the system. That was our very first 7-7 and I heard we played Unioto first so no real shock that it took a bit for the offense to get going but it did get better as the day went on. Guarantee we won't live or die by how well we run the ball, we've got all our skilled players back minus 1 WR and returning the leading passer in the SOC in his first season at the helm. If anyone wanted to ask what me might live or die by it's going to be the offensive line's ability to get up to speed and handle the LOS, if they can't create holes and give the QB time then we're not going anywhere. That's a question that won't be answered for a while as early on there's going to be ups and downs but that's to be expected when replacing starters in the trenches.Rolltanks wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 12:34 pmUnioto Jackson Chesapeake valley piketon
Idk if 17 is your new receiver or not but I didn’t recognize home from last year. Against us he didn’t catch a pass. I know we didn’t have 3 of are starting skill guys on offense or both safeties on def. Waverly struggled to complete passes early on but score 2 or three times in 15 min. Just saw them vs Unioto but imo they will live and die by how good 22 runs the ball

So first 7-7 of the year heard we beat Piketon, Jackson and LV think I'll take that.Jeaux Burreaux wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 2:01 pm Thank goodness games aren’t played in tshirts and shorts or Waverly would be 0-10

Ya, I didn't hear as much gloom and doom as they are posting on here but it is SEOPS. As everyone in Waverly knows and as you pointed out, it's going to come down to the offensive line - PERIOD!Tigernation2021 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 7:57 pmSo first 7-7 of the year heard we beat Piketon, Jackson and LV think I'll take that.Jeaux Burreaux wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 2:01 pm Thank goodness games aren’t played in tshirts and shorts or Waverly would be 0-10

I just said what I saw in one 15 min period. Doesn’t mean they won’t win every game.smurray wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 9:19 pmYa, I didn't hear as much gloom and doom as they are posting on here but it is SEOPS. I was just poking fun at 7-7 football. everyone is well aware that it is completely different than the real game. I do believe some aspects of it help for an in game situation. I just personally don’t put a ton of stock in it bc a vital part of the game isn’t there

I don't think he was referring to you believe he was referencing the guy talking about going 0-10, the sky is falling gentlemen. You were all good in your comments, 7-7 are good work for getting guys on the same page in the passing game and coverages but has zero indication of how a team be during the season.Rolltanks wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 9:40 pmI just said what I saw in one 15 min period. One week of full contact practice before the trip south to Lawrence County to scrimmage the other Tigers..
Any news to report? I believe a couple Waverly players are out of tomorrows scrimmage, as is fairly common after the first week of contact and not much time to heal up before week 1.

Re: WAVERLY TIGER FOOTBALL 2023
Tough first scrimmage especially breaking in new OL, guessing we'll probably be running in a few different guys at the open positions to see how each of them handle things and the following scrimmage against Portsmouth will be more of what we'll open with in week 1. We did have some guys get nicked up this week and looking like they'll be out but hopefully they'll be returning next week, secondary is a bit thin heading into this one. We've got guys playing new positions on the defensive side of the ball and a new system for them to learn as well so I look for there to be some bumps along the way here early on but that's why we've got a couple scrimmages to try and iron things out the best we can come week 1 against Miami Trace. Basically with each set of series just looking for improvements as the scrimmage moves along and come out healthy as we get closer and closer to the start of the 2023 season.

I think they made it to the Ironton 40 once… Other than that they didn’t move the ball or stop Ironton from doing what they wanted.

Re: WAVERLY TIGER FOOTBALL 2023
I think that may have been expected. No use scrimmaging someone you can walk over.
Waverly coaches know what needs worked on and corrected, just a matter of getting it done.
Less than 2 weeks before week 1 against Miami Trace.

Appreciate the feedback from everyone, is nice that our guys can get a custom to hitting someone new for once this summer. and Ironton is cream of the crop so I seeing how it went does not surprise me much

Miami Trace isn't Ironton that's for sure. I think Portsmouth, Friday night, might be a better measuring stick. Irontn could be the best team we see all year, with the possible exception of Mt. Healthy

Re: WAVERLY TIGER FOOTBALL 2023
First scrimmage in the books think we had couple guys get nicked up but all in all came out of it in tact. Hopefully we'll get some guys back next week and get ready for the final warm up against Portsmouth at home Friday night. There's some things to work on across the board for sure we need to hold up against the run better and be able to open up running lanes better. Pass protection was actually pretty solid, QB and Wrs were a bit out of sync but that's to be expected with Ironton putting 8 guys into pass coverage and first time out. ironton will have a heck of a season and we might not face another team as good in the trenches until playoff time, looks like the LOS could be Ironton's strength this year. Get a good week of practice in start smoothing out the rough edges and get ready for the Trojans.
