Gotta feel for the RV faithful...Hopefully Coach Cooper can keep them chopping wood and get the program turned around.

NY by as many as they want. RV is way down this year, even for them. Hope both teams stay healthy through what will likely be a long night for the silver and black.

Re: Wk 4: River Valley (0-3) @ Nelsonville-York (2-1)
I have to wonder what the issue is there. They've got the numbers as far as enrollment goes, to be competitive, at least locally, yet other than a couple years in the mid 2010s, RV just hasn't been able to field a consistent winner. What is the issue in Bidwell?

Congrats to QB Mahki Williams for tying the school record for touchdown passes in a game with 5 last week and WR Landon Inman for tying the school record for reviving touchdowns in a game with 4.

unrealistic expectations by parents and a quick trigger to fire coaches has led to a hot mess in athletics there.MisterGalliaGuy2016 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 7:17 amI have to wonder what the issue is there. Re: Wk 4: River Valley (0-3) @ Nelsonville-York (2-1)
I'm surprised that River Valley's numbers seem to be holding steady being that they have not enjoyed much success for quite a few years. Schools such as Oak Hill and Lucasville Valley, even though they are a smaller school than RV, seem to have declining numbers about each and every year.
Re: Wk 4: River Valley (0-3) @ Nelsonville-York (2-1)
As far as this game goes between NY and RV, the Buckeyes will probably be able to pretty much name the score against the Raiders.

Wasn't gonna address that part, but yeah......yeah that was a thing. Wasn't just a former football coach either. There was another one involved.sandstorm23 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 11:27 amAnd some scandals thrown in there too to put the cherry on top of the messHoward Cosell wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 11:13 amunrealistic expectations by parents and a quick trigger to fire coaches has led to a hot mess in athletics there.MisterGalliaGuy2016 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 7:17 am

Rv gets their first win, running clock second half Ny isn't what they used to be.
Re: Wk 4: River Valley (0-3) @ Nelsonville-York (2-1)
Yes it starts with coaching and getting guys to buy in. Create a culture of some sort. Whether it be physical, athletic, strong, hardworking etc…. Get a cpl classes to buy in to a culture and the underclassmen will follow their lead. Their are athletes in the school system. RV may be a good candidate for a young energetic coach.

Re: Wk 4: River Valley (0-3) @ Nelsonville-York (2-1)
There are and have been a lot of concerns and frustrations regarding the situation at RV over the 30 years of existence. Several issues affecting the program are outlined below in no particular order:
1. **SEOAL Decision**: The decision to join the SEOAL led to negative consequences early in the program’s history which affected the stability of the program. Losing and losing big bred low numbers. Joining the OVC wasn’t much better at least in football.
2. **Coaching Issues**: Allowing coaches to go 0-40 and running off good coaches suggests that there have been challenges in maintaining coaching stability and achieving success on the field.
3. **Lack of Support**: The lack of support from certain administrators and the community has made it difficult to build a strong program. Parents need to be more supportive of the program and trust what the coach does with their son. Not complaining or throwing fits because they think their son should be playing a different position or getting the ball more. The last time I checked football is a team sport.
4. **Loss of Talent**: Losing talented players over the years like Donnie Johnson, Jacob Campbell, Jacob Winters and others can have a significant impact on the team's performance and morale. This can certainly hurt a smaller school's football program. Players often leave in search of better opportunities.
5. **Facilities**: Poor facilities, both in terms of the game and practice fields, have added to the challenges faced by the team. At one time the AD would not buy new uniforms or new equipment for the players. Wearing helmets that were over 10 years old and not re-conditioned gave the impression to the players that no one cared about them.
6. **Inconsistent Tradition**: Constantly changing the uniform's appearance, logos, and the inconsistency in establishing and maintaining traditions can make it challenging to build a strong sense of identity and pride within the program. Prior to Peck there were some traditions starting to form but he completely abandon them and we saw how his tenure ended up.
7. **New Sports Programs**: The introduction of soccer at the middle school level raises questions about the future of the football program and its ability to attract and retain players.
8. **Safety Concerns**: "Known predators" teaching and coaching at the school highlights a serious concern about the safety and well-being of students. Personally, I would not allow my kids at RV for any reason whatsoever. But for whatever reason most parents have turned a blind eye on the “known predators.”
9. **Coach Cooper**: It seems that Coach Cooper faces a challenging environment, and his ability to succeed may be compromised by the issues mentioned above. Not sure how much support he is getting from the school, but he has an uphill battle. Also, I don’t think he teaches at the high school. You need a head coach to be teaching at the high school to recruit new kids and maintain the ones you have.
It's clear that RV has faced a range of issues that have impacted its football program, probably a lot more than I mentioned. To address these concerns, it may be necessary for the school and community to come together to support and prioritize the development of a successful and safe program. This could involve addressing coaching stability, investing in facilities/equipment, and ensuring the safety of students, among other things. In the middle 20 teens the program was going in the right direction but to sustain success the school needs to continue to invest in the program and the kids. In the same time period the youth program was doing well but in recent years it has become a big joke. Absolutely no development at all. Fundamentals of the game need to be taught at that level. Nothing will change until the top decides to invest the necessary resources to have a successful program.
