Many people are throwing out this $70k figure and talking about creating a job. I don’t think public schools work this way in 2023. That $70k in salary probably costs the district another $50k in insurance and STRS retirement. Also depending on Minford’s negotiated agreement, any “created” job might have to go through internal bidding first, meaning that the job created for a coach might be taken by someone in-house first.
Just a long winded way of saying there are a lot of potential hurdles in hiring someone from out of district to coach if it’s dependent on a teaching job.
Excellent points. Have seen many coaching jobs go down the list of choices because of things like in-house posting and teaching positions that need filled first.
Every district runs in its own way. One district might pay a coach to not coach while another district will not be interested in fighting the local teacher association. Another district might have the luxury of putting a coach in a grant-funded spot doing makeup credits.
Does anybody know the candidate’s teaching credential?
