MVL Football
Re: MVL Football
I recently talked to a longtime Crooksville fan and a grad about Cvilles future. I gave him my athletes in cycles pitch but he wasn't buying it. He said the families that made Cville good over the years are pretty much all gone or moved away. Maybe it is time for them to leave the MVL. They can still play their nearby arch rival in non-league.

I look for Crooksville to petition the TVC soon.1gcfan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 9:42 pm I recently talked to a longtime Crooksville fan and a grad about Cvilles future. Re: MVL Football
Cville had a talented 8th grade group that are currently freshmen. The QB started varsity last year. Someone is always going to be the biggest and someone is always going to be the smallest, and Crooksville just happens to be the smallest MVL brethren and will always be the smallest. Sometimes in life we have to come to realizations that may not be popular, but what is right. Leaving the MVL would not be popular with the old guard, but any stakeholder within the school/athletic programs should be able to see that the time has come to do what’s best for its kids. They are 1-2 divisions lower than every other school in the league, depending on sport. The argument that the bigger small schools were having about crossovers to the big division is the argument Crooksville has every week but their non-league games.1gcfan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 9:42 pm I recently talked to a longtime Crooksville fan and a grad about Cvilles future. A buddy of mine at Rosecrans said that Crooksville reached out to the MSL Cardinal about what it would take to get in but the schools didn't really want to hear it. Said the Columbus schools could be the problem in that league. Crooksville traveling to The Wellington School would be a pretty funny culture clash!!Dundas wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 9:59 pmI look for Crooksville to petition the TVC soon.1gcfan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 9:42 pm I recently talked to a longtime Crooksville fan and a grad about Cvilles future. If thats true I'd assume the TVC would be a logical next inquire.

Crooksville is transitioning to the East District, and I believe it’s as soon as next year. How that would motivate a decision for MVL or TVC, who knows.Play60Football wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 7:36 amA buddy of mine at Rosecrans said that Crooksville reached out to the MSL Cardinal about what it would take to get in but the schools didn't really want to hear it. The Cardinal schools in Franklin County can pound sand. I believe that the MSL constitution changed last year to where the Cardinal schools outside of Franklin County could just admit Crooksville by simple majority (since the Buckeye schools aren’t allowed to vote on it, either.) I don’t know why these schools are acting like they an obligation to care about what Wellington and GCC have to say.

Re: MVL Football
I believe Crooksville's move to the east district was for travel reasons. Didn't want to make those Tuesday evening trips to West Union, Ironton, and South Point for a 5-20 volleyball team to play a 6-19 team in a pig tale game! If you're going to be a 5 win team you might as well do it in the east district where you can go to West, Morgan, Meadowbrook, Buckeye Trail where the drive home is on 70 and you can get some McDonalds!! But now with the expansions of the tournament it should be icing on the cake for Crooksville. It's probably going to shake out that they are D6 in all sports now and that changes the teams they see in the tournament drastically. Fort Frye, Garaway, Martins Ferry, Bellaire, Newcomerstown, etc. The next logical step is to get into a league where their record going into the tournament is 10-12 wins as opposed to 4-6. then they can get a higher seed and compete more often!!

The below numbers represent final enrollments counts and classifications for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years.
SCHOOL - Male - Female - Total
Tri-Valley 310 - 324 - 634
Sheridan 310 - 276 - 586
John Glenn 262 - 232 - 494
Philo 239 - 219 - 458
Maysville 232 - 215 - 447
River View 181 - 211 - 392
Morgan 194 - 194 - 388
New Lex 206 - 180 - 386

West M 170 - 164 - 334
Coshocton 187 - 139 - 326

So does this mean Sheridan moves back to DIII in football or am I totally off base?Play60Football wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 1:58 pm The below numbers represent final enrollments counts and classifications for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years.

Re: MVL Football
I would assume they'll have too. CB#s are also not factored into these. They're just 9-11, once CB is factored in divisions will be assigned.

Re: MVL Football
Also when are divisions assessed? Because according to this Maysville will be moved to the small division but have the 5th highest enrollment! I know they're based on previous numbers but is it 4 year cycle or something?

Re: MVL Football
Divisions within the league are determined every 4 years. The league used last years numbers (2023) to determine divisions for 4 years (Fall of 2024-Spring of 2028). I’d say anybody looking at these numbers will say Morgan got shafted as they’re heading to the big division and are numerically a small. For scheduling purposes, they have to make decisions at some point, but it does seem like a full year in advance is maybe a bit premature?Play60Football wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 2:18 pm Also when are divisions assessed? Re: MVL Football
TV and Sheridan have outgrown the MVL. They would probably align more with some of the bigger schools in the LCL.

Re: MVL Football
Spring 2022 numbers were used for school years 2024-25, 2025-26, 2026-27, 2027-28.
Unless by-laws are changed, spring 2026 number will be used for 2028-29 and following 3 years.
So spring 2024 numbers mean nothing as far as setting divisions.

Re: MVL Football
The gap between Sheridan and TV is a lot smaller than I expected it to be. 48 total kids, 9-11. Is Sheridan seeing a growth? or is TV seeing a decline? Im generally asking i'm not that familiar with either community. I know I've heard the stuff about the Intel plant factoring into Sheridan's future, is that happening now? that 310 Boys seems like a major jump over the last few years. I seem to remember a 270 give or take most years.
Philo to Coshocton you got a solid foundation of numbers D4 - D5.

Re: MVL Football
The elephant in the room that league leadership doesn’t want to hear. Easier to be the big fish in a little pond. Aside from 1 year John Glenn shared or tied and one year Philo shared or tied, has any of the other big schools won the league in football in the last 20 years? I’d be curious to see what schools have won league championships in football/basketball over that span. Without knowing, I would assume over 80% of titles in both sports have gone to either Tri Valley or Sheridan over the last 2 decades.

Re: MVL Football
…because this league was so deeply stuck in the mud for the longest time in its thinking of “we need to also consider the interests of Tri-Valley and Sheridan” at the level that TV & the Generals were somehow in the same boat as Crooksville, West M, New Lex and Morgan. I have nothing against TV and Sheridan, but their thinking before the MVL split into two that “it would hurt the fabric of the MVL if we left, or if we added Zanesville” and “some of these schools rely on us to make their athletics financially solvent” meant refusing to read the writing on the wall in the process.
The exits for Sheridan are basically closed at this point. They weren’t candidates for either of the two times when the LCL extensively studied and discussed expansion, they never applied to the MSL and both leagues are in dead-end situations now on ability to expand. TV’s prospect to move off the MVL has always required them to be in a package with Newark and Zanesville in the LCL, which died the first go-around because another school ruined the deal in the 11th hour and didn’t get revisited last time because they didn’t apply.

Re: MVL Football
If the MVL wants to do what’s best for the kids who participate in this league then they need to look at expansion or having TV and Sheridan move on to a league with schools their size.
