Hate to see those type of numbers for Minford. The potential QB is basketball-first, so understandable that he not wanting to risk injury on the football field his senior year.

Key for Minford is keeping the 8th grade class together, because numbers/interest in football could get even worse if they lose that class to transfer.*

Disappointing. Minford is very good in so many sports but just can’t get football straight.

Not since Daniels stepped away. He went 62-33 in nine seasons and that’s probably the best nine year stretch in school history. One SOC, five playoff appearances, only two seasons below .500.

Heard Minford has 24 kids & the QB they had slotted to start quit.
Yikes. Numbers are about what I’ve been hearing. QB departure must be a new development. Last I heard the QB had never played the position before so not sure where that leaves them. I really hope the community is patient with the new coach and doesn’t get the pitchforks out before he has a chance.
I’m not really in the know with Minford, I heard this from a family member who is in the know I guess lol. Yeah from my understanding he was a TE before, and didn’t play last season due to injury maybe? Either way it hurts to go through most of the summer with a QB and then he’s gone right before you start scrimmaging.

Pretty good information, guy who's been the backup QB seemed to feel like he was getting left out of the QB competition with Shoemaker so my understanding he's done coach said he hadn't seen him. Shoemaker is a big target back there he's simply ok but not really offering any type of running game I think their back Bradley could be a heck of a back but they'll be lacking up front to really give him any running room. No Caudill playing, backup QB not playing, believe I heard one of the faster guys on the team wasn't playing but that one I can't confirm. This is why my stance has been for quite some time that Minford could very easily be looking at 3/4 wins at best.

Going to ask because I'm curious if things have changed since I last seen them, did Shoemaker decide not to play after all?? Believe he was the one playing QB at the 7-7, Caudill is the QB who decided not to play as his future is in track.

Shoemaker is the one I was referring to that quit the team. This according to my brother who’s grandson is on the team as a WR. I’m not sure how reliable the info actually is as it’s not coming directly from me, but this is what I’ve been told.

Dang that's crazy, no the QB I was referring to has been the backup to Caudill but at the 7-7 Shoemaker was at the helm. That's very interesting but with Shoemaker being basketball I've said the OL was going to be really bad and I'm sure he didn't want to take that chance especially with Haggy leaving Western and going to Minford for basketball. That starting lineup is going to consist of Montgomery, Haggy, Kayser, Shoemaker and whoever else so they should be really good but depth is going to be terrible. Minford football is definitely in a state of transition and it could take 3-4 years at least to see any gains, ppl can talk about that 8th grade group all they want but there's no telling what happens.

I'd feel really bad for him if they asked him to make that transition, he's one that has waited behind Pica and really looking forward to running the ball even though he's going to take a beating. I can't imagine him wanting to go to QB but they might not have a choice.

Goose: no doubt about the current 8th grade group. We've all seen how junior high success does not automatically equate to high school success, team-wise and individually. If I remember right, this current senior class at Minford was pretty solid in junior high football (dominated Burg their 8th grade year), but for whatever reason it never translated to the high school level.

As for the QB now that Caudill and Shoemaker appear to be out of the picture, I gotta think Matiz would be in that conversation now.*

Last I heard Matiz isn’t playing due to injury from baseball.

Ouch. Then I have no idea who next in line at QB for Falcons, or if any seniors are even left on their roster.*

Well, if my information is correct the QB who was backup last year has come back out now and will be looking at being the starting QB. He started for JV last year and played some WR for varsity. Smaller guy, doesn’t have a big arm but is football savvy going to be tough in mule town.

Those kids that aren't there anymore will make it hard for Minford to compete this year for sure. With a new coach coming in its probably best they aren't playing especially if they don't want to. Its a commitment to play any sport but football may be the hardest. I applaud the kids being up front and quitting instead of being half way in. Its gotta be tough on the new coach too. Just sad for everyone involved.

Yeah and at the same time I can't blame those guys for knowing what they want and where the program is. I've said it all off-season Minford was looking at 3/4 wins at best, a OL that was really going to struggle so I'm sure Caudill and Shoemaker both seen where things were going to be and know their best interest moving forward was playing other sports they're targeting for college.

I was actually told football is his favorite sport, but he wanted to be healthy for his whole senior year. He missed football season last year due to a knee injury.

I can’t imagine him choosing basketball as his first sport as he hardly touched the ball in previous seasons. Too big and solid of a kid to be passed over like he is in basketball. Their basketball team could be so good if the players are utilized correctly. The last two years have been a shame.

After what I just saw from their Facebook page. I see no way to avoid a 0-10 season. I hope I’m wrong for Falcon fans.
