Week 1 Northwest @ Piketon
Week 1 Northwest @ Piketon
Week one has the Mohawks travelling to meet the Red Streaks. These teams haven't played the last couple of years, but have an extensive history against one another. I don't know anything about NW- who returns, who figures to be their playmakers- so seeking some information about them. The Red Streaks return several starters and have a lot of experience, but I don't know necessarily what to expect from them. Hoping for a season starting win for the Streaks.

Piketon owns a 22-19 win-loss record vs. Northwest.
Northwest’s last win came in 2003, a 45-6 victory.
Since then, Northwest has scored 47 points in 7 matchups.

Re: Week 1 Northwest @ Piketon
Not really sure what to expect from NW, as they lost Lintz and then lost another transfer to PW. Piketon should be primed and ready for the season and I'll go with the streaks by 28.

Piketon gets out of the gate with a strong win they have done a good job building up their program last few years. (Would also like to see them and Waverly in this week 1 spot again)

Think that would be amazing for Pike County. I understand why they stopped playing for awhile, the teams were trending in different directions. But Piketon has since gotten back on track recently and Waverly isn’t quite as dominating as they were in the past.Jeaux Burreaux wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 2:33 pm Piketon gets out of the gate with a strong win they have done a good job building up their program last few years. I’ve heard the coaching staffs have good relationships with each other and that’s part of the reason it isn’t being brought back. And also heard one side offered up to play it as the jamboree game at the least and the other side wasn’t on board. That game was so emotional for both sides and sometime felt like your season was won or lost after week 1. But I believe that rivalry was great for the community and got everyone excited for the start of high school football.
Idk if we will see these teams matchup anytime soon.. Both schools are missing out on killer gate/parking and concession profits!

Very well said. a lot of history in the rivalry plenty of family members that have played against one another. And of course bragging rights to hold for a year ( or at least until the holiday classic) over your rival. Hopefully the two will bring it back as it has started and stopped many times in the past. As you said HUGE gate/parking/concession profits

Piketon has too much offense coming back for the Mohawks to overcome.

Northwest actually had two kids transfer to West. Logan
Wolfenbarker and Drew Dettwiller, neither played football at Northwest in high-school. They both are playing at West. Wish both youngmen the best, great kids.

Not sure why they wouldn’t play football for Mohawks, but now playing at their new schools? But hopefully Northwest can start getting their best athletes back out for football.*

Good luck to the Mohawks

Re: Week 1 Northwest @ Piketon
Piketon opens with a 26-0 win over Northwest. Game was much closer than the score indicates. Red Streaks led 6-0 at halftime, 12-0 after 3. Northwest had their best scoring chance on the opening drive of the game, but the Streaks hold on 4th down on their own 5 yard line.

Sounds like the Mohawks were competitive in this one. Figured the Piketon offense would be pretty explosive this year, but Mohawks' defense gave them some problems.*mikepike wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 9:58 pm Piketon opens with a 26-0 win over Northwest. Re: Week 1 Northwest @ Piketon
Piketon is going to score, that inevitable, but the fact that they pitched a shutout here is the key. After giving up 42 PPG over the last 6 weeks last year, the defense was the catalyst for the Streaks to have a chance at a league title.
That’s a really good start for Piketon.

Piketon with the 26-0 shutout. Could not ask for any more from their defense.
Congrats on the win.
