Re: Valley at coal grove week 2
I think Valley wins. Coal Grove is too one dimensional on offense and struggled with pass defense against Greenup County.

One dimensional on offense and no pass defense, I see nothing has changed in Coal Grove
Re: Valley at coal grove week 2
That’s the exact thing Portsmouth was so no real difference in approach but Valley takes this one by 14

Coal Grove is no push over ,Hornets 21-17, OVC will hand Indians 2loss of season. Until Valley can win a game against a 500 and above team I’ll take the Grover’s.
Re: Valley at coal grove week 2
Nothing will change unless something changes… I think I said it in another thread, until Coal Grove learns to play D, they will be nowhere near the top of the Ironton-less OVC. They got a good assistant on that staff this past season.PointerHornet89 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 9:05 pmOne dimensional on offense and no pass defense, I see nothing has changed in Coal Grove
Best of luck, Coal Grove!

Valley should get the win this week. They held Portsmouth running game in check. Valley will have to get the penalties under control. I don’t think I have ever seen a team at any level get so many false starts in a game.

The best running back in the area had 30 carries for 125 yards and Portsmouth didn't throw much. Valley defense is much improved and I doubt coal Grove have a back nearly the quality of Heiland is his point

Agreed. Portsmouth might have ran for almost 200 yards, but they had like 45 rushing attempts. Facing a back like Heiland, that’s not too bad.lineman7 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 5:54 pm

I had heard Coal Grove has a pretty good back, but not quite at Heiland’s caliber.*

If valleys Ol gets things together this week I see valley winning by 2 tds. If not it will be a toss up.
Re: Valley at coal grove week 2
To the team that has probably the best rb in the area it was a great showing they ran the ball almost 50 times Portsmouth had to fight for everything they got

Re: Valley at coal grove week 2
Moral victory to only give up 200 yards on the ground lol. Yeah Heiland had 29 rushes for 125 at probably 75% healthy. No matter what way you look at it, I don’t care if it’s Walter Payton out there, giving up 200 yards rushing isn’t good, and it definitely isn’t shutting down a run game lol. Coal Grove has a pretty good back, no he’s not on Heiland’s level but I doubt they have much success shutting him down. I’m not even knocking Valley, they seem improved on both sides of the ball. Last year Heiland ran wild (granted he was fully healthy) this year he didn’t. But I think the run defense is still pretty iffy for the Indians.

Re: Valley at coal grove week 2
A ton of splitting hairs talking about the Portsmouth game and Valley’s defense. They are much better no doubt but they have room to get better.
I watched the stream of the Greenup game and the QB run looked like it really hurt Coal Grove. Once they got behind they couldn’t throw it. Valley needs to have a good start on offense and clean up the penalties. I think this is probably a 1 score game.

Valley will prevail in this one. They are a much improved team this year. Heard they add a lineman whose been out this week that will help them out. Offensively, they just need to mesh a little more. Once that happens and coach feels comfortable opening up the play book, they should be fun to watch.
