Hats off to the Belpre kids on the field and sidelines. They never hung their heads and hustled the entire time.

Glad to hear that, as that is progress versus week 1. Don't like how high the score got, but different coaches, different philosophies. Belpre kids need to keep working hard and playing hard. I know that they are going to win a couple of games this year.OhioSportsGuyMike wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:58 pm Hats off to the Belpre kids on the field and sidelines. Fort was down to 24 guys they had the Jv in for last 2 1/2 quarters. Fort jv played well. They weren’t throwing or anything. Can’t expect them not to try and play hard.

Very long second qt. Maybe they should start the running clock in the first half if it gets over 50?

That's how it felt last week during the MC/Belpre game. First quarter took 45 minutes. The MC JV was in at about the 6:50 mark of the second quarter, and they gave up a touchdown. JV played the second half in its entirety and scored almost immediately at the start of the third with a pick six. I know that MC coaches just absolutely sat on it once it got to 53 points.EasternDspy wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 12:17 am Very long second qt. Fort Frye 12-13 jv players are not going to get better “sitting on it”. They were running basic sweeps and dives.Steely Dan wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 12:29 amThat's how it felt last week during the MC/Belpre game. First quarter took 45 minutes. I wasnt at the game but I agree that the young ones practice hard (lately in 100 degree heat) so when they get the chance they deserve a chance to perform. Coach gets to see what they have learned how they progress.EasternDspy wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 12:33 amFort Frye 12-13 jv players are not going to get better “sitting on it”. With the direction of these two programs the last 10 years I am not sure why this game is even played. There is no way it helps FF and all that can happen from the Belpre side is injuries.

Won’t be played next season.
!!!
For those on here that think that FF demise is here, its not. They looked very good last night. Not having seen them vs Barnesville last week, The Rocks must be a very talented team. However, FF needs to stay away from the injury bug with 31 players. FF dressed 26 Belpre 18.
Big difference for Belpre vs FF was play execution and FF excelled, especially with their line play on both sides of the ball.
Belpre has 5 seniors this year so a lot coming back next year. Our linemen are 1 SR, 3 JR, 3 Soph and 3 FR. We are gaining experience each game. We played hard last night and kept competing until the end. We left 2 scores on the field, 1 at the end of the first half - 4th and goal at the 1 which FF stopped and another later in the 4th. Yeah, they were against the FF jv squad but that is where our skill level is at this time vs good teams like FF and Monroe Central last week in which we left a TD on the field at the end of the game.
We are getting there, it just takes time. Very proud of our effort last night. Our turnovers and penalties were both reduced vs FF
Next up is Alexander (1-1) and we matchup better with them than we did vs FF and MC. However, it will still be a very tough team for us.
We need to get healthy and get all 22 players dressed as soon as they are able.
As always...

Re: WK 2: Belpre (0-1) @ Fort Frye (0-1)
Yes by all means let your JV players score against a really bad team after the starters beat them into submission. It’s good for your young guys to feel really good. Also keeps the opposing team beat down so you can keep them down for future beatings. Plus you get some payback for the opposing coach claiming that he called your offense when he was there.justpassinthru wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 8:43 amI wasnt at the game but I agree that the young ones practice hard (lately in 100 degree heat) so when they get the chance they deserve a chance to perform. Re: WK 2: Belpre (0-1) @ Fort Frye (0-1)
I have no problem with FF or MC bringing in their jv team once they had a lead they were comfortable with. I don't expect the other team jvs to sit on the ball, they need to run their offense because this gives us much needed experience vs players of our skill level and we have some success because we get A) some defensive stops and B) we can move the ball better and score, this boost morale of our players.
Lets face it, our overall experience is jv level vs the better teams on our schedule such as FF, MC, Trimble. No shame in that, it is what it is. Most of our games this year has us being the underdog to heavy underdog but that will change as we get game experience. We were a much better team the second half of the season last year and it will be the same this year. We were a better team vs FF in week 2 than we were vs MC in week 1 and I expect us to be a better team this week vs Alexander. We are improving.
But, we need to adjust our schedule some what. Probably need to drop FF for a couple of years so we can play teams more on our competitive level to build the program back up. The rebuild won't happen overnight. It will take 2 or 3 years in my opinion.
I feel we will be better than our 1-9 record from last year. Especially if we can get all 22 players playing each week because then we don't have players playing out of position.
JR High team is off to a good start, 1-0 after defeating Southern 46-8. I believe they have 18 players.
Our players are getting solid coaching from jr high to varsity level.

They didn’t run up the score. They put the jv in with 6 mins left in second.eagle25 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2024 3:01 pmYes by all means let your JV players score against a really bad team after the starters beat them into submission. Did you want the JV to fall down on their own? Just take a knee for 60% of the game?eagle25 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2024 3:01 pmYes by all means let your JV players score against a really bad team after the starters beat them into submission. I love playing Belpre and hope they get their program back to a level where it makes sense to play again down the road.

Run it up. It’s their job to stop you. If they don’t like it they should play a JayVee schedule. Though it sounds like they don’t do very well against them either so results might be the same.efarns wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 10:18 amDid you want the JV to fall down on their own?
