Week 6 Wellston @ River Valley

Post by GRFan »

Rockets will face the Raiders at Bidwell on Friday. Wellston coming off a nice win over Alexander. Rocket offense was running full tilt. Rocket defense came up with a scoop and score on a blocked Spartan punt. Raiders having a tough season but can come to play on the home field. It will be important for Wellston to have a good game to
prepare for the Buckeyes the following week.

The Golden Rockets should be able to win this one with very little resistance.

Wellston should roll.. The Weather will play a huge factor and may leave this as a low scoring game that isn't actually all that competitive, last time I can recall bad weather and playing at RV it was a total mess before the game even started. I'm assuming it will be the same. Sloppy, wet and windy.

RV is at least 2 more years away from a single win.

RV showed some positives with a young team. KO return and a late TD against Rocket reserves. Wellston went 0-10 in 2022 bounced back to 4-6 last year and 5-1 so far this year. The seniors on this team stuck together and never lost hope. Coach Graham and his staff have done a great job. RV players are doing their best don't give up on them. I proud of the Rockets for all of their efforts. I know the hardest part of their schedule is yet to come but they have come a long way.

The problem is, Wellston has made moves and changes that benefited the team and fostered improvement. RV continues to set their program back. I won’t get specific on that. Also, the losing culture is in full force. I’m sorry, but if you continue to lose every game with a running clock, you are not putting up much of a fight, as players or as coaches. A team that plays hard and grinds through down times will at least claw their way into making a couple of games respectable. I may be wrong, but with what is there and what is coming up, and if they continue to keep that old school mentality, the program will continue to go backwards. The 7th grade is a solid group, but it’s years before they will compete at all on a varsity level.

The Rockets stand at 5-1 and 10th in the region. They will be tested big in the next two weeks, Nelsonville -York (4-2) and Athens (6-0).

So much truth spoken here. Spot on. Whatever is going on now just isn’t the answer. I hope people don’t foot themselves into thinking it is.
