Absolutely. Both teams know what is at stake here. Again, I don’t discount the loss to Circleville. They were 1-9 last year but didn’t lose much from that team. That’s a respectable loss early on imo. Athens battled in their week 1 game against Philo. Warren will be one of the best 3 teams Athens sees this year with Philo and NY. You could make an argument that they are the best team they will see. I will have my eye on this one Friday night. Obviously I’m pulling for the TVC team to win it but Warren is one of few this year that could beat the Dogs.beg003 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 7:52 pmI can respect that take 100%. Will be interesting to see how both teams come out after winning by some lopsided scores the last two weeks. The speed and intensity of this game will be up several notches from the preceding weeks.Dundas wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 7:33 pmAs a VC supporter, those teams that lost to Warren were good not great. They weren’t clear cut TVC favorites. (Maybe in our eyes they were) Realistically they were just solid. This Athens team should beat everyone in the TVC by at least 4 scores. That’s why I feel the way I do. I think this Warren team would be 2nd in the Ohio by 2 scores over everyone else. Athens is just that good this year, imo. Way better than any VC team over the last 3 years.beg003 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 7:19 pm
I totally get why Athens is the favorite in this game, I really do. I just remember worse Warren teams than this one beating VC teams that had TVC title hopes and the threads going something like this. I’d be surprised if this isn’t a really good game. Athens has Leo Martin, Warren has Tanner Pepper. To me, they cancel each other out. If Pero plays, that’s a difference maker. Defensively, Athens wants to play in space. They worry me anyway, but I’d be much more concerned if they were going to line it up and run right at us. Just my take, and again, I get where you’re coming from.
This is why they play the game though. Would I be shocked if this game was tight? Absolutely not. Playmakers on both sides of the ball is all you need. Turnovers, mistakes, blown coverages, could all be a factor and WILL be a factor. Warren won’t lose by 30 but if Athens plays like they have, I just see them pulling away by a 28-14 type score.
Week 6: Warren (4-1) @ Athens (5-0)

Yep. Better hope Warren has been doing a ton of wind sprints this week and they better have plenty of oxygen on hand for them boys cause Athens is about to start wearing defenses out like they did when JB was barking out the signals. Probably be best to play as many backups as possible on defense so they can keep fresh legs in the game. Run ball control on offense. Eat up the clock as much as you can. Good luck.beg003 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 7:52 pmI can respect that take 100%. Will be interesting to see how both teams come out after winning by some lopsided scores the last two weeks. And it’s true that Athens has better wins to this point. I would counter with the fact Warren has blown out the truly bad teams like they should (Cambridge, Paintsville). I won’t be surprised with any outcome besides a blowout either way. It’s good to have a reasonable, knowledgeable discussion on here. It’s appreciated.Dundas wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 8:03 pmAbsolutely. Both teams know what is at stake here. Again, I don’t discount the loss to Circleville. Might be a possibility. Warren has one less coach this week. He “resigned”. The cost of winning isn’t cheap. #additionbysubtraction

Well rumors fly all the time. But if true I hate it for the senior or seniors that have busted their butts. But if it’s a valid reason…
Re: Week 6: Warren (4-1) @ Athens (5-0)
More than just Pero? Hopefully not. This is one of those games you want both teams to have their best guys available.

Warren really hasn’t had to run the ball much and I think u got a taste of it against Morgan Athens got there backs Warren has there’s !! Also Warriors haven’t had there top offensive lineman all season and if he plays tomorrow night it’ll be a big boost to the run game ! This should be the Game of the week on all formats!!!

If the Bulldogs come into this game at or near full strength, they take this one by two scores. Athens can score points in bunches.

Are they full strength???? Plenty of rumors of a few starters for Athens being out for an extended period of time. Time will tell if it's true or just rumors.
Re: Week 6: Warren (4-1) @ Athens (5-0)
Pero and Wheatley were out last week. I believe Pero is a game time decision this week.

I’d heard something about the QB being out too, but you know how rumors are. I see better than I hear. I hope all their guys are healthy.
In my opinion, Athens needs all their guys to play as much as Warren does. The gap between these teams isn’t big enough for either team to win this game at 75 or 80% healthy.
