Week 7: Valley (1-5) @ Portsmouth West (4-2)
Week 7: Valley (1-5) @ Portsmouth West (4-2)
Thoughts?
Interesting game to me. If Valley's D plays like they did against Northwest, it's going to be a long night. Northwest ran at most 5 plays and Valley still couldn't stop anything. They are going to have to clean up a lot of things this week. They've shown they can play D. They just have to do it. On the bright side, they seemed to open up the offensive play book and threw the ball which worked out well for them. Offense looked so much better.

I dont know how many players play both offense and defense but Valley seems to get gassed a bit in the second half.

Valley’s only chance is to throw the ball a lot! A running Quarterback gives them fits as well. Every team has had success throwing against the Senators. Their only chance is to try and score with West. West will use clock control and run all night long!

Valley does play most of the same guys on both sides of the ball but I thought the finished strong the other night. Their tackling was not very good against Runyon but there wasn’t big holes or people getting blown up. It looked like smaller guys missing tackles on a big dude. Valley was in position they just have to tackle better. That has been the biggest difference since the loss of McNeil. Like people said on the other thread, listening to coach on Saturday explained a few things about the passing game. Valley has ran the ball all year and they are breaking in a new QB. It looks to me like Nolan is picking his spots because of the new guys in certain positions. The offense has not been bad at all in recent weeks once things have leveled out. And I’ll remind you again, they haven’t had their top player since week 2.
West went through much of the same issues early in the year. People who post on here act like these coaches get a new group of polished athletes each year.

The Indians will give great effort just as they do each and every week. I just feel as if the Siders, especially with their running game, plus the home field advantage will be enough to earn the victory.

I think the boys in orange and black are the better football team. But I have a sneaky suspicion this one might be closer than some will think. Can’t let the record of valley give anyone a sense of relaxation. Valley is a perfect team to play spoiler on any given night. I think the punishing running style will wear on the Indians and by the 4th I expect a 2-3 touchdown victory.
West is 40-12 all time against Valley with a .769 win percentage.

Indians have played good teams really close at home. Portsmouth: 12-15, Waverly: 21-27, and then finally got it done against NW in a shootout: 38-35. Yet away games they haven't competed with these teams as much. Coal Grove: 16-30, Piketon: 14-25, and Burg: 7-42. It is not even like the away opponents are just so much better than the home opponents. Hard to argue against that Portsmouth is better than Piketon and maybe even CG. Seems that Valley needs to figure out if there is some different way they are preparing for these away games and home games. They will need to be at their best to take down the Senators and I believe they can but penalties will need to be limited and the pass plays will have to be in full effect.

I believe this game will be closer than most people think. I heard that Parker wasn’t playing this week and I know McNeil is not so this should make it interesting. If valley can throw the ball they will give west all they want

I too have some worry about this game. despite record valley is well coached and still have some good athletes. If parker is out, west still has two others who run really well. I would have to assume the game plans haven’t changed from previous weeks, still really predictable on both sides. that in itself could cost them a game going further. it almost happened against waverly. I guess we will see how it plays out. Go west.
Re: Week 7: Valley (1-5) @ Portsmouth West (4-2)
This could be interesting with West inability to defend the pass. Valley though isn't strong against the run so while it won't quite be the same look for West and Valley to be similar to Waverly. I do believe West takes this one by 14
Re: Week 7: Valley (1-5) @ Portsmouth West (4-2)
A huge problem with West is they run far too much man coverage and don’t get enough pressure with stunts and blitzes to run man.
They also don’t have the personnel or discipline and it has shown time after time. I think Valley uses the athletic QB this week, Similar to how Portsmouth did that absolutely had West completely off balance. I feel like West will win this one, But much closer than you’d think.

undesigned QB keeps will kill them then. Unless they throw on a spy they will get ran on by Waughtel all night. This will be an interesting thing to watch out forMrPerfect wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 11:30 am A huge problem with West is they run far too much man coverage and don’t get enough pressure with stunts and blitzes to run man.

Valley is the underdog coming into this game it will take a score or two from either the defense or special teams for them to pull off the upset

Could see this game going either way, but as cg20 pointed out above, Valley seems like a different team at home vs on the road. Would’ve expected to see a Parker v McNeil matchup a few weeks back, but Bishop v Aaron not too much of a drop off!
After seeing West, Valley, Waverly and Northwest this season, I don’t see a huge difference in talent between any of them (Burg still a tier above all of them). That’s why I expect another close game tonight just like Waverly/West, Valley/Waverly, and Northwest/Valley all were.*

This is how I feel too. I think turnovers and penalties determines the outcome of this game. Both teams have good running games and Valley does more with their QB. West seems like it’s going to be Bishop right, left, and up the middle. I think Valley will be riding high after their win and they pull the upset. Either way I think it’s going to be a close game. One thing that I heard last night is Valley’s center has to have hand surgery and is out for the season. That’s a tough loss for them. Good luck to both teams, hopefully there’s no more injuries.

That's not good about the center. If I'm thinking of the right person, I believe he really helps their D-Line as well. Will be interesting tonight to see if Valley passes as much as they did last week. Ready for some football. Don't think I can make it tonight though. Is this going to be live streamed?Dan-The-Man wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 10:03 amart_vandelay wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 8:16 am Could see this game going either way, but as cg20 pointed out above, Valley seems like a different team at home vs on the road. I would say this will be a close game for a while. West wears them down and pulls away in the 2nd Half 35-14
