What gave it away? Ironton beating the best team on Gallia's schedule in a 41 point shutout, even after sleepwalking through a half of football? Is it the fact that Gallia has 6 or 7 kids out for the season with injury? Or the fact that Gallia has an average margin of defeat somewhere in the low to mid 30s, en route to a likely 0-10 season?

Seriously, Tigers could probably play their 8th grade and freshmen and still win this one, just because of sheer numbers. Gallia has some talent, but not enough fresh legs with all the injuries. Last 2 games were very competitive until the boys just got gassed from playing both ways. Then they turned into blowout losses.

Honestly, there's no shame in trying to get this one canceled. Ironton might actually lose playoff points by beating Gallia because the Devils likely finish 0-10. On the flip side, how many more injuries can Gallia sustain? Ironton is big, strong, fast, and physical and they will get a very significant push against an undermanned and overmatched opponent. That could lead to injuries on both sides.

Assuming the game is still played, God bless everyone on the field, in the stands, on the sidelines, in the press box, and anyone else taking the trip down scenic Route 7 S and US-52 W. Hopefully nobody gets injured in this one.

On a side note to the fine folk in Tigerland, that stadium is a national treasure and I hope the damage done to it wasn't/isn't too severe.

Heard Gallipolis is desperately trying to get out of this game. Any truth to that? Can’t blame them.

Game might end up at Tanks. Everyone has said damage isn’t too terrible.

I haven't seen anyone else on here talking about it other than me. And that was just me bringing up a possibly mutually beneficial idea.

Just heard a rumor from a couple people. Can’t blame them if they would. It will be ugly and dangerous

Ironton would be better off finding another team to play. As playing Gallia will not help them. Ironton needs to clean up a lot of mistakes over the last 3 games. The slow starts is not good for playoff wins against good teams Beating Fairland with their backup QB the way they did by playing just the second half is not good. The players need to get in their heads that what matters is how the play the next play. All the playoff talk and how great this team is does not matter. That talk can wait until all is done and let this team earn it on the field.

There should be serious talk about canceling this game for the benefit of both teams. As there are still some good teams with open dates this week in Ohio.

Didn’t the Tigers win by 40+.Geesh.Don’t matter when you score them. Ironton should play the JV to avoid injury.

Nah. Screw that. Go play the game. Don’t learn anything by quitting. 0-10? So what. Lose by 100? So what?

Someone brought up a great idea and made a thread.
How about Ironton play (8-0) Athens and Athens opponent who is (0-8) River Valley play Galipolis. Can the switch be made?

Ironton would beat Athens by 50 😂

Probably not by that margin, but likely still a running clock. Athens beat a healthy GA by 50. Fairland beat a heavily injured GA by 30ish. I know the trope about common opponents and whatnot, but no matter how you slice it, Athens is a better matchup for Ironton than Gallia is and Gallia vs RV would actually give each team a shot at a win, though I'd guess GA probably beats RV by 21. I'm seeing that RV isn't even close to competitive in their games. Gallia at least had chances to win a few of their games, late.

I feel like if Gallia backs out, it may be more worth the playoff points to just take the game off the schedule and drop to a 9 game schedule. No second level points at all.

Ironton should just agree to play starters 1st quarter and let the foot off the gas. Don’t risk injuries and get younger guys experience.

No because Athens vs. RV is a league contest.

At this point, Gallia is basically starting a JV team, other than the QB and a lineman or two.. they're gutted with injuries, including to their best skill guys

Then they forfeit. They have to play the game because the second place team is within one game. And league games can’t just be dropped. It’s not that hard to understand.

Yeah because of a freakin pandemic. I don’t think this really compares. You think Wellston is cool just letting them have the league title while skipping out on a league game?
