Props to the leagues that maintain week 10 as Rivalry Week. They’re doing right by the kids, man.

My last football game. Minford led Valley 18-16 with about 3 minutes left. Valley was driving at about our 25 yard line. Playng linebacker, I picked off an Indian slant pass that ended it which gave that Falcon team the best record in Minford football history up to that date. Both teams had good years in 1981.

My last game! Week 10, 1979. Warren and Belpre played to a 0-0 Tie. This was before Ohio went to overtime. Memorable for many reasons. During the 70's Warren and Belpre was a great rivalry. Many friends and dating across district lines. If Belpre had won, they would have shared the TVC in a three way tie with Trimble and Nelsonville. But as a Warrior, and playing the underdog, the tie was very much a WIN. The field conditions at Warren on limited grass after ten weeks and a monsoon, made footing tough and a ten yard hydroplane automatic. GREAT GAME and GREAT MEMORY!

My freshman year I remember the drive to spencerville full pads strapped in as their fans lined 66 throwing cans at the bus. Next in to town we get pulled over by the cops to make sure the bus was up to code, just long enough for their fans to block us in as they all drove to the field. Coach morris went nutz before the game and we went out for the first drive and our backer lights up the tailback. I got few tackles and a pick and never lost to them in 4 years. Go jeffcats !

In 2008 or 2009 Sheridan and New Lex played in a game where both teams were 9-0, Both ranked 1 & 2 in the state i believe.... might be misremembering that. It was labeled the game of the century. Sheridan won in a downpour. Sheridan would end up getting upset in the playoffs but NL went on to the Final 4.
This years game is about as good as both teams have been for a while. Maybe a few seasons ago. Sheridan and Tri Valley has become a big rival in the MVL..... It's trending that West M and New Lex can create a good rivalry. But these are all based of division leads. Sheridan / NL is a county rivalry that'll never go away...... and Crooksville and Miller are just kinda there.

1997 Ironton at Ashland. Ashland up 41-21 with 2 minutes left. James Taylor and Ryan Carmon run wild in Ashland secondary and Ironton gets the 42-41 win.

Spartan stadium for Portsmouth and ironton. Up on the levee with a cooler of adult beverages and setting in a folding rocking chair. Best memories of my life. Just being there with friends and telling football stories.

2008 at The Rock. Both teams came in at 9-0 with West having a three headed monster in the backfield. Burg had Shankweiler at tailback and it poured all day long. West gutted it out in the mud and slop and won 14-7 to cap off the undefeated season.
2011 West puts a beatdown on the Burg on the last game played on the grass field at Ed Miller. I remember the smiles on peoples faces seeing the opposite bleachers heading for the gate early.
2022 Was great because not a whole lot of people really gave us a shot. But they played penalty free ball and physically imposed the Pirates by the 4th for the first SOC in 14 years.
2017 was probably one of the most anticipated matchups. I remember a whole lot of jawing going on and Ed Miller was packed to the brim. We bust a screen pass down the sideline on the first offensive play and I believe that was the loudest I may have ever heard our fans. Unfortunately that was short lived, as their was no slowing down that Burg team that went on to win the State.
Unfortunately I wasn't around to see some of the slugfests during the Dick Tipton/Ed Miller era. I have heard some crazy stories and even better games. You can go back and look at scores and their are several one point to one touchdown games that would decide the SOC. I know in recent times this one kind of takes a back burner to the Ironton game. But nevertheless, This one is guaranteed to bring alot of emotions. I have seen more smack talking and altercations in this one than all the rest. I hope for another memorable one this Friday.
